A lot of our guys really are like this. I could tell you stories about a joker from school who went to serve, he was as mental as these guys and ended up in Yugoslavia in the not-so-recent unpleasantness. He came back with stories that would make parts of your body involuntarily retract.

To be honest, I like it that our forces have a sense of humour. Some things do not change - my drawing office supervisor in my first job was an ex-WWII Wellington bomb-launcher. He used to be able to tell who was flying in the fighter escorts just by the flamboyancy of the pilots. One pilot, he recalled, used to unhook all his gear, sling the cockpit back and start to get out before his Hurricane actually stopped rolling. Bonkers.
