Also posted these in the cool pic thread, but actually they belong here.

Video clip from an air show 2 years ago. Shaky, as the stabilizer on my camera has failed, but I like this anyway because not only do I have the Merlin engine sound, I have the wind screaming in a couple of dives. Unfortunately, I also have the "music" going over the PA system, as they made sure there was a speaker every 30 feet or so....

P-40 in pursuit of a Zero:

Something my nerdy eyes have noticed.

Is that the Chinese marking on the wing? Hence signifying it as a Flying Tigers plane rather than something connecting it to Pearl Harbour.

The aircraft in this show belong to the Commemorative Air Force and the P-40 was not marked specifically for the Pearl Harbor show, but as a Flying Tiger. The previous time I saw Tora! Tora! Tora! they used the P-39 that was the second picture in that same post.

This show had 6 Japanese planes where the previous year I saw them with 9. So it varies by availability of aircraft and pilot, apparently.

That Boeing is gonna need a brake job.... Soon. Holy cow!

So who is it exactly that says, "Go see how far sideways you can bring it back from."

Hehe that would be Boeing.

The video actually is two seperate tests run at seperate times, though the way it is edited it kinda looks like one.

The first test is to see what happens if one engine loses power on a full thrust takeoff roll, make sure the aircraft is controllable. The 777-300ER in the video has the most powerful commercial turbofans available fitted to it and with only one each side, so losing one at full power can be tricky.

The second test is max take off weight (MTOW) V1 rejected takeoff (RTO) with no reversers and worn brakes. They have to sit there for 5 minutes to complete the test before putting the brake fires out. The puffs of smoke/dust you see is the fuse plugs melting then letting go deflating tyre pressure by design, so the tyres don't explode from over pressure due to heat of the brakes.

I knew it was two tests.

I'm thinking the engine failure was "simulated" because he threw full left rudder into the thing to throw it sideways. "Yes, I believe everything the engineers tell me about the strength of the landing gear struts!"

I would have liked to have seen the black marks on the tarmac after that test, would be interesting if you were landing on that runway and saw it...

I was expecting a gold trophy to appear on the center of the screen.

As long as everything gets sorted out with Veterans Assistance, I'll be starting my flight training as soon as October. Moving to a new state with an apartment less than a mile from the airport? Living the dream.

Also have some pictures to share from the outdoor museum here at Tinker, if anyone is interested.

Messing around at a place I've been to a hundred times with my phone when I took these, but why not share them.

"B-29 over Mt. Fuji, 1945"

Almost looks too good to be from '45 or perhaps it was doctored, but maybe that's just me.

edit: guess not.

Also, never knew about this. P38/F5 Lightning with modified drop tanks to carry wounded.

Classic picture, the Mt. Fuji shot.

Had the pleasure to get to snap this one a couple months back. The last remaining flyable B-29.

That B-52 is ginormous!

I just returned from a short trip to Kadhdhoo, got to fly the Dash 8 Q300 on the way there, and a Q200 for the return. Flight there was great, got to flirt with the two cabin crew a little :sly:

The return trip was a bit scary though, after a rather quick and steep takeoff. A loud noise similar to air escaping from a balloon's neck engulfed the entire cabin just before we started our descent. Startled everyone and lasted for about 30 seconds, then another round again for 15 seconds. I assumed it had something to do with the pressurization (noticed the descent becoming steeper as well). However, no more problems after that, and the flight landed safely 👍

I asked the cabin crew what the noise was while disembarking, apparently a leaky door seal. Still scary though :nervous:

Anyways, here's a customary pic of the Q300 I took at Kadhdhoo while disembarking!

Now that you guys mentioned it, it doesn't look too big  Must've been the crowd of people surrounding it which gave that impression!

I've posted this before in the Amazing and cool video thread, but it's worth sharing again:

Easily the best sounding RC aircraft I've heard so far IMHO

Sadly, this was the same plane that crashed at Reno in 2011 :(

Got to check out the school I'll be attending last Friday. Brought home the private pilot's guide book for the first part of training.
