Episode 22: It ultimately went in the direction I feared it would after episode 16, after beginning to make me think it wouldn't with episodes 17-20. Let me just ask.... WHAT THE **** KIND OF GARBAGE ENDING IS THAT?!

Supernatural!:P

Bad ending eh? I just hope it's not something like:

Nagisa coming back to life somehow. All that "other world" nonsense might make it happen, and that would be disastrous.

Anyway I can't believed I haven't watched any anime so far. After some of my "personal business" I'll probably watch a few episodes of Bebop and if possible, screw my one-anime-at-a-time habit and start with the !DOLM@STER.

And I gots myself a real GF... Dunno what to do with Sayaka  Oh well, anime waifus are a whole lot different from real life waifus so I can keep both heh heh.

^I wasn't comfortable with the idea at first, but after that I was just like, oh well whatever.

Its staring into my SOUL!!!!
That coming from a lolicon....
Just let it happen.
I know, right?
I never knew rainbow was an eye color.
It's not. This is anime, son.

Well I'm just gonna pretend that After Story ended at episode 19. It's an 8/10 like that, possibly 9/10.

What made the story so great after episode 16 is how it was about how Tomoya coped with the loss of Nagisa and was able to find the strength to raise Ushiro and to understand and appreciate his father. Having that all just be a dream/alternate world to bring Nagisa and Ushiro back... stupid, stupid, stupid. :banghead:

Episode 20/21 was pretty stupid too, having Ushiro get sick and die like that, making what they did almost the only way to end on a happy note.

Hey, it's Hollywood baby, not Shakespeare!

It's not Shakespeare, meaning what exactly? That it's not a tragedy?

I don't have any issues with something having a happy Hollywood ending...

If After Story ended with Tomoya being happy raising Ushiro on his own and maybe even finding a new love, that would be fine by me. The tragic death of Ushiro was excessive, and was what made the utterly ****ing retarded ending they went with the only feasible route.

Letting Ushio die at the end was indeed unnecessary. I don't get why they made her almost exactly like her mom when she was little...both of them had dumb parents. Who lets their kids stay at home on their own like that? Have someone to babysit AT LEAST.

But it's visual novel, blame the people who made up that silly revival crud...

So my fears came true :scared:

These rehashed versions of "Oh! It was all a dream!" really piss me of. If they couldn't bear to kill her then they just shouldn't.

Loading up Mirai Nikki 14. Considering how 13 ended it should be good

Passing the blame off doesn't make After Story's ending any better, however. :P

Well, kind of. Most stories nowadays have happy endings. I met Kurt Vonnegut once, he did a talk about this. His books, like Shakespeare, often do not have happy endings. But are they tragedy? For Vonnegut at least, more tragi-comedy. The point is we end up thinking and maybe even learning something when a story leaves us in a troubling spot. But when everything is magically resolved for the best at the last moment, we can just go home with a warm fuzzy feeling. Soma.

But yeah,

that was the way CAS had to end after Ushio. still, I wonder about the story. it's definitely supernatural in some way. reality shifting because of our beliefs? I never quite figured it out. But while I certainly wouldn't give CAS a perfect 10/10, I thought it was pretty satisfying, surprisingly so.

Yeah well, it was still based off an already existing VN, and VNs don't exactly have the most coherent stories when multiple arcs are being stringed together in some chronological fashion.... In other words, VN-adapted animes are usually crippled from having a logical or very well plotted-out story, AS just happened to have magical qualities. It was already established in season 1, so just accept it.

Gotta admit, I'm a bit surprised that we're in near-unanimous agreement over After Story's ending.

After being condemned for having anything negative to say about Steins;Gate, I was half-expecting to encounter similar opposition on this matter.

Let me just say for the record:
Clannad After Story > Steins;Gate
:P

Accepted. As a 7/10.

You keep saying to "accept it" as if that's supposed to somehow absolve it from critical analysis or consideration, which it definitely doesn't.

When it comes to reading/watching something, I find that I really really want everything to work out in the end. A nice happy ending to keep me cheery. But oddly enough, as a writer I try to do the exact opposite. I can't bring myself to write a 100% happy ending, it's boring and I feel as though my time was thoroughly wasted.

Even though there's the cheery part of me, I still appreciate it when everything goes terribly wrong in whatever I'm watching/reading.

I like happy endings, I like sad endings and I like bittersweet endings... as long as they're good endings. :P

It's nice to see things work out, but seeing every little loose end suddenly work out by some form of magic or coincidence is a bit boring.

Mirai Nikki 14 was pretty good. Not much of a spoiler, but playing it safe:
Yuno goes full blown psycho, Yukki grows some balls, stupid stuff pretty much not present. I wish more episodes would follow suit.

Let me just say for the record:
Clannad After Story > Steins;Gate
:P

Even though I have yet to finish it, I don't see that happening.

Mirai Nikki ep 14:

Yuno in her underwear! I love her craziness.

Kousaka's diary suddenly turning into a "future diary" was way too convenient. That sort of annoyed me.

THAT SLAP! Then I actually felt bad for Yuno after Yuki told her to go to hell and she started crying. Poor Yuno. :(

Then WTF with that weird looking lady? Silly things after the credits are fine, but keep the main part of the show serious. :grumpy: And 3 new diary holders? Anyways, good to see Yuno not giving up.

I like those deep bass drops in the soundtrack.

Just finished Clannad After Story...

Before that, I was thinking I'd probably give it an 8, and I was toying with the possibility of giving it a 9 even... but it ended up a 7. :banghead:

But the other stuff. So sad. :(

And I gots myself a real GF... Dunno what to do with Sayaka  Oh well, anime waifus are a whole lot different from real life waifus so I can keep both heh heh.

You know the drill: pics! :D

^ It's not exactly that though.

There's supernatural crud happening.

We just pretend that didn't happen.

This. Warm, fuzzy, happy endings are great, but bleak endings can be great too. Take the original ending to Army of Darkness for example. It was totally something Ash would do, and it was a sad ending, but Universal made them change it to a happy one. I prefer the original just because it fit the character better even though it wasn't happy.

I don't "accept" the supernatural stuff in CLANNAD. I pretend it isn't there and that makes After Story so much better to me.

I assume you've done a fair bit of writing yourself

You'd be assuming wrong.

I frequently conceptualize stories for games, but I rarely go further than that with 'em. :P

what's your preferred ending to write?
Usually, the endings to the stories I conceptualize are quite dark/sad, as a lot of them are Silent Hill inspired.

Beyond that, I mostly like bittersweet stories where there's a good bit of messed up stuff that happens, but it ultimately ends on a slightly happy/hopeful note. Not by undoing all the messed up stuff that happened previously, though. :banghead:

Another example of a great bleak ending would be The Mist. The movie itself is kinda meh, but damn the ending is great. :D

You kidding bro? After Story episodes 16-19 DESTROY Steins;Gate. Like I said, if it weren't for the ending, I would've given it an 8 or 9.

That ending really took me off guard in a good way. However after I thought about it I kind of laughed pretty hard. Great ending though.

You serious? No pity for the crazy bitch from me. I thought he should've killed her then and there, but that would require some serious balls, and Yukki is not getting any anytime soon.

Really? I stalled at 16, but considering all that came before it, I don't think 17-19 are going to be much different.

You and I both know we were fully expecting it; I decided to stop it though, because the S;G commotion was rallying back and forth because both parties continually disagreed with each other and never acknowledged the oppositions' POV.

Anyway, here's some No More Heroes!

I went and saw Beauty and the Beast in the theater today, and it does make you realize that beauty is on the inside. I believe there is beauty in Yuno, and honestly, I'd like that beauty to be me. ;)

For serious though, there is something going on with her memories. Yeah she's messed up, but something is happening in her brain. I can't wait to see all the things we don't know about right now. I think Yuno just needs someone to love her.

^Obvious response.

Wasted my whole day here, looking up anime stuff, redoing my profile page and album covers...

Got no homework done at all. :( :grumpy:

I think Yuno just needs someone to love her.

I thought so too, which is why I was rooting for Yukki to just accept her already, but then she went ahead and proved me wrong.

It's clear there's more to find out about Yuno, but I don't think she can become normal, nor do I want her to :3
