In other, completely unrelated news, I have recently noticed that no character seems to feature more prominently on the covers of Evangelion box sets than Ibuki Maya.

Fanservice. A lot of male anime fans will eat up any young female characters pretty easily. A weeaboo should know this.

This is fanservice?

Without being explicitly obvious with how I'm defining the term, you should be able to understand that slapping graphics of female anime characters on just about anything will make items sell. It works on a lot of us and even more successfully on bigger fans. Therefore, should you really be surprised if there is an image of her (or a girl in general) on a DVD cover?

It definitely works. I've bought tons of things just because Asuka was on them. I agree that Maya being featured on a lot of things is odd, though.

I was watching the commentary of EoE a long time ago. They believe that Ibuki is more human than everybody else.

Because 🤬 yeah lesbians, that's why.

C'mon guy, this thread is 13+. Tone down the explicit content.

The thing is, in that image it's not even immediately obvious that she is female.

She seems a damn slight saner than the rest of the cast...

Because Ritsuko x Maya.

Them why isn't Ritsuko on the cover as well?

Is it just me who wonders if Maya and Shinji are second cousins or something? They look pretty much the same. In Petit Eva I can't even tell one from the other.

- Draw generic face shape
- Draw girl/boy eyes, sometimes the difference is size only, if difference at all
- Draw hair as the only way (soemtimes) to distinguish if boy or girl
- Profit

Apparently, I missed out on all the Hyperdimension Neptunia discussion a couple of pages back. :/

I've not actually ever watched a "new" anime series before; if the Rebuild of Evangelion movies don't count, all of the animes that I've ever seen have either been movies that came out years ago or TV series that have long since finished - so it's been nice to be able to follow something new. This year has apparently been quite good for anime, actually; Attack on Titan is getting a lot of praise, the Dangan Ronpa anime looks interesting, and Hyperdimension Neptunia is a lot of fun. Whether any of them will attain the title of "classic" remains to be seen, but all the attention that they've all been getting on sites like Tumblr was just... too loud for me keep ignoring. :D

I'll say now that I'm actually not hugely into anime. The only series I've seen are Evangelion, Elfen Lied, Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell movies and now Neptunia - so I'm hardly an expert. XD

Now seems like a good time to get into more anime, though! ^_^

Just watched Evangelion 3.0. It was HILARIOUS!

Asuka and Mari Sue fight some identified thing in space. Shinji wakes up in the year 2029 and finds that everyone is being a complete jerk. Misato makes a whole fleet of battleships and aircraft carriers fly SOMEHOW! Maya appears on screen once and says that she hates men. Rei turns up and takes Shinji away from all the people being nasty to him except it turns out that it isn't Rei. The geofront gets destroyed. Kaworu teaches Shinji to play piano. Kaworu teaches Shinji to play piano. Kaworu teaches Shinji to play piano. Kaworu teaches Shinji to play piano. Kaworu teaches Shinji to play piano. Kaworu takes Shinji down to the sky and makes Shinji feel bad about himself. Fuyutsuki explains to Shinji what the hell is actually going on. Kaworu offers to fix things. Shinji is rude to a Rei clone. ACTION SEQUENCES. Asuka is angry, Mari Sue is of ambiguous temperment. Rei gets confused. Kaworu is a bookend. FOURTH IMPACT!!! Asuka drags Shinji and the Rei clone into the dessert.

Yeah...

I thought it was better than 2.0.

2.0 pretended to actually have something to do with the original when in fact it barely resembled it. 3.0 just doesn't have anything to do with the original.

I still think they should have just remade the series as faithfully as they did with the first film for the first three in the saga and then bought on this "promised new ending" in the fourth.

This is obviously going to have a new ending, unless
4.0 is just an hour and a half of Maya shouting "Sempai" while a cheesy ninties balad plays in the back ground with little to no explanation of what is actually going on.

It's called REBUILD of Evangelion. I do agree that 3 is the worst of the movies. I love 2, though.

Actually, the Rebuild of Evangelion is something you'll find in the DVD special features, but it's been adopted as a nickname for the remake film series. Officially it should be referred to as 'Evangelion: New Theatrical Version' or something along those lines.

Also, 64 guests right now. See if this scares them away... :P

This year so far is so-so compared to last fall.. or the fall the year before. This coming fall might be something great though.

Here's a nice nostalgic tidbit:

Easily a 10/10, because it's Evangelion.

This is bad reasoning as to why it's better than 2.0. 2.0 took what it needed from the original and then deviated just enough to be its own thing and still good as an Evangelion film. Everything that happened in 3.0 was messy and hastily explained. It was amusing though

3 of my favourite soundtrack. On live!
Nice finding AOS. Absolutely love Mika's Bios. Dat voice. :scared::drool:👍

Hmm... I just found 2.0 to be generally disappointing, although that might be because I watched it only the day after I watched 1.0 and was expecting something on the same level. Watching 3.0, even if it was a mess, reminded me of that feeling I had watching the first few episodes of NGE for the first time, giggling like a schoolgirl and just generally wanting more after I finished.

Admittedly this is probably for completely different reasons, I was giggling like a schoolgirl when I watched the first few episodes of NGE just because of how awesome they are; whereas I was giggling like a schoolgirl watching 3.0 because of how confused I was, but still, I have to say I really enjoyed 3.0.

Knowing Anno, he'll probably release a 2.0/Q midquel OVA to cash in.

Personally, if that does happen, I'd like to see Asuka's recovery and her building up her relationship with Mari.

So it's true. Whenever there's nothing else to talk about, just bring up Evangelion. :sly: And this time I spot who started it! Roger the Horse!

BTW, anybody here on myfigurecollection.net? Lol, I just started collecting these stuff and I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. My bank account surely points to bad. :scared:

An Azu-nyan figure just came in the mail today. Tee hee :embarrassed:
