OAV, TV Series or both? Regardless, I believe you're going to enjoy it.

I've been watching eps of KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple recently and saw the story on ANN about Miu's seiyuu Tomoko Kawakami passing away recently.

From what I remember, the TV series is a retelling of the story that branches off after ep. 4 of the OVA. I have the TV series on VHS tape and I've heard that it was re-released on DVD sometime ago.
