I can't even get The Run possibly until the 5th from this one holiday we celebrate since my dad's side of the family is Dutch.

If only that Rightstuf package had arrived (I ordered last night, and did the free economy shipping, so unlikely. Though from past experience, it takes like 3-4 days.), then I'd be watching Clannad instead of sitting here bored, and posting in this thread.

BTW, what do you guys think of me literally thinking of coming up with $370 somehow to buy that box set? That's only for the first half of the show, another one will be out later this year as Fate/Zero is a split season show, one season in the Fall, one in the Spring.

I think it's your money so spend it how you want. But $740 for a TV show is pretty dumb. People actually spending that much on them is why they are selling them for that price.

starting to man up, like I predicted he would.

Almost done with Noein... I'll be finishing up the last handful of episodes tonight. :D

Sounds good. I may give it a try.

I wish people would stop. There's no way 13 episodes is worth $370. No-🤬-way

I wouldn't exactly call it dumb. Many people gladly spend the money, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Also, they're selling it to make a profit (Though they do enjoy making these shows.), they could sell it for a lower price, but the Japanese IMO fail to realize they possibly could make a greater profit, and have more people buying if they lowered the price to a certain point (Not $30 for 4 episodes, no that wouldn't work. That's too low.). It would be maximizing profits with a lot of people buying.

Personally, the main reason I want this, is so I can own it physically. This may be my only legal option to own the show physically.

Why? It's their choice, and their money. It may be a waste to you, but not for those collector's who just HAVE TO HAVE IT. Plus maybe to them it's well worth it. Those who bought Garden of Sinners (8 movies for $500) thought it was worth the price, and maybe it truly was to them thought it being lower would be it being underpriced.

Some people possibly would think Mirrai Nikki being sold here for $60 is it being severely underpriced. I've talked to people who think anime here isn't priced high enough.

As an import, I find this price reasonable. Now if it were the full $500, you would get me there if this were a usual R1 release, and not an import (Where they take the Japanese release, bring it here with premium items, the same day, and give us a kinda big discount.).

Well I guess I'll have to go to bed without Haganai. *Cries self to sleep* Night everyone!

And those people are dumb lol (IMO). It's funny how anime can get away with it. I'd like to see them try and sell something like Friends or Seinfeld for $300+ a season.

For Japan with way more anime fans, yes. Look at these sales figures, they would be much higher, but probably wouldn't earn as big of a profit as they would be making $30 per single. It could possibly lead to them not breaking even on a show.

(Note that DVD is being phased out as Japan loves BD.)

Could you at least add IMO at the end? You're breaking my heart.:(

Oh wait, you edited it. My post is now pointless.:grumpy:

I think DVD should be phased out here too. That way they can't justify charging extra for getting the content the way it was made to look.

Regarding sales figures, I think you're wrong. I know that if anime cost half as much as it currently does, I'd just buy twice the anime I currently do. And I'm sure I'm far from alone in this regard, essentially meaning that sales would probably close to double. That in itself compensates almost entirely for the reduced cost, thus they'd still be able to break even by virtue of that alone. Then consider all the new people who'd decide to pay for anime instead of pirating it, due to the significantly lowered prices.

Fansubbers probably are still translating. They want to try to do a quality job. Well, they at least can be close to on-time. FUNimation is probably going to put up episode 6 only tomorrow, making them 3 episodes behind AGAIN.

But I love DVD!!!:(:grumpy:

But anyway, the thing is, would more than double the people who currently buy because you'd be making the same amount of money, or possibly less.

I mean if anime manages to sell like it does in Japan at their ridiculous prices, and the shows break even or do better because of those prices, maybe like $40 for 2 episodes on BD, and $30 for 2 episodes on DVD would be best. Japanese buying habits are different. Their DVD's have been priced like this for ages apparently.

(BTW, I like this discussion.:))

True, but a big problem right now is, I know of many fans who you could pay them, and they still wouldn't buy. Anime unfortunately isn't mainstream as many of us wish it were.

Though many pirate just because they can, and because they'd rather not pay a dime. I've been laughed at on some forums before because I legally stream, and buy anime. There are people that even think FUNimation's S.A.V.E. line is overpriced ($30 MSRP for a whole season or less. Usually $20 or less online.).

(Glad we're getting some good discussion, even if it's on something like this. Discussion on prices, not shows. Traffic has been declining I'd say the past week.:()

Yes, there are many reasons why people pirate. Some people pirate because, like you said, they just don't wanna pay for something they can easily pirate for free. But a lot of people pirate because they currently don't have the money and/or they want to get a taste of something before they decide to spend their hard-earned money on it.

FUNi's S.A.V.E. line is priced pretty well, although IMO regular non-budget anime shouldn't cost more than double what S.A.V.E. shows cost. $40-60 for a 26-episode anime is my idea of reasonably priced.

Troof. 320 minutes of a decent show is not worth $370... hell, it's not worth $100.

Some people just don't realize the value of a dollar..
The value of $370 is this.:sly:

Remember though, the value of a dollar differs for everyone, I mean you spend $60 on video games, and have yet to buy anime coming out. I wonder if you'll buy Steins;Gate right when that comes out. It'll probably cost as much as this.
http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/L82kmlNToLvc2GJEMw/browse/item/92648/4/0/0

That's not too bad of a price, I could live with something along those lines for a show I LOVE.

You know why I'm willing to spend $60 on a video game? Because it can provide hundreds of hours of entertainment, ESPECIALLY MP games. Seriously, it's not that hard to figure out. I've put 100+ hours into GTA IV alone..... now take a super open ended game like FO3(Put at least 150+) and then New Vegas(Around 90+).... 13 episodes for $60 couldn't give me that much replayability.

I'd take that $370, and buy me 3 figurines...

I will never understand your obsession with figurines.

I mean, yeah they look cool. But they don't look $120+ cool, to me at least. I'd much rather buy a few videogames or anime DVDs with the cash that one nice-quality figurine costs.

I just like nice looking things, if I like it enough I don't care too much about its cost.

I'm also fine with it being $100+, just not greater than $200

Fair enough. I'm like this with some things.

Guess it's just the fact that I like videogames and anime more than cool figurines, and they're cheaper to boot. When I've got $100 to spend, I'm gonna choose 'em over figurines every single time.

If you're into collecting figurines, that's great. But I don't think they're worth it, personally. I'd much rather build up my library of anime, videogames, music, etc.

It's basically collecting... I collect hot wheels as well.... even cheaper than music or games.. but I like to keep things that are pretty to my eyes, sorta like how artists go nuts looking at sculptors and paintings....

I find boxart pretty.

Well, good boxart, that is. :P

Consistency's also important for boxart. For example, I loathe the fact that Evangelion 2.22 has a completely different style for its boxart than 1.11 had.

I see so many variations of 1.11 and 2.22..

just today i saw a 2.22 with a picture of Mari, and then there's that usual orange cover.

Face it, Walter... you're a 2D man.. :P

Well, I'm referring to FUNi's US releases:

Don't get me wrong, I like the minimalist orange packaging of 2.22. But I prefer the shiny of 1.11, and really wish they would've stuck with that style, if only for consistency's sake.

BTW, the orange is just a sleeve over a plain Blu-ray case, which has the Mari artwork. Which IMHO is bland garbage. 👎
