Someone better be in the 2:15 range still as i want some company during the race

Wiz... 2.08? Come on man, I was feeling like Senna when I got in to the 2.11s!

Having real problems replicating it though. I'm so all over the place, one night I can pull out fantastic laptimes then the next I can barely string a lap together. I don't think I'm changing my style at all, I use the same brake markers etc, I just struggle. It's really frustrating. I'm in the 13s tonight :(

I haven't done a ton of practice but my best so far is mid 15's, I can't fathom shedding more than a couple seconds off of that.

I think Wiz might find a few (dozen) bags of sand in his boot come race day. :sly:

Wiz discovered that there is some randomness built into the track grip. There's an option for this in the server, best we can determine is it means the track grip can be +/- a certain percentage (default is 2%) every time you load the track and apparently this also applies to offline racing. On the server I will set it to 0 so there will be no randomness and we can ensure a consistent grip level, but offline it seems the only way to control it is to keep restarting the track until you get the grip you want. I'm going to set the starting grip to 97% so just keep restarting the track until you get that number.

For those that don't know, when you choose the different track grip settings (Dusty, Green, Fast, etc.), here are the numbers that are used for each.

DUSTY]
SESSION_START=86
SESSION_TRANSFER=50
RANDOMNESS=1
LAP_GAIN=18
DESCRIPTION=A very slippery track, improves fast with more laps.

[OLD]
SESSION_START=89
SESSION_TRANSFER=80
RANDOMNESS=3
LAP_GAIN=50
DESCRIPTION=Old tarmac. Bad grip won't get better soon.

[SLOW]
SESSION_START=96
SESSION_TRANSFER=80
RANDOMNESS=1
LAP_GAIN=60
DESCRIPTION=A slow track that doesn't improve much.

[GREEN]
SESSION_START=95
SESSION_TRANSFER=90
RANDOMNESS=2
LAP_GAIN=10
DESCRIPTION=A clean track, gets better with more laps.

[FAST]
SESSION_START=98
SESSION_TRANSFER=80
RANDOMNESS=2
LAP_GAIN=20
DESCRIPTION=Very grippy track right from the start.

[OPTIMUM]
SESSION_START=100
SESSION_TRANSFER=100
RANDOMNESS=0
LAP_GAIN=1
DESCRIPTION=Perfect track for hotlapping.

So let's say you're using "Fast" for practicing, and you notice that your times & consistency are quite erratic from day to day. It's probably due to the Randomness being at 2. This means that any given time you start a session, the grip could be as low as 96%, while another time it could be 99% or even 100% (98% +/- 2%). If you're using optimum it's always at 100% grip.

To check it, click the button on the left side menu where you would normally click to use the chatbox. There is some info up there that shows things like time of day, track grip, etc.

As Brandon mentioned, keep restarting the track until you get the desired result. I found out last night that you don't have to back all the way out to the main menu to reset, you can hit Escape on your keyboard and choose "Restart Session". "Back to pits" does NOT reset the track.

"Lap Gain" is the total amount of laps that need to be driven for grip to increase by 1%. So if you started out (on Fast), you would have to run 20 laps by yourself to gain 1% track grip. If there were two people on the track, then each of you would need to run 10 laps to gain 1% grip (2 drivers x 10 laps each = 20 laps = 1% increase). If there were 20 drivers on track, you would each need to run only 1 lap to get a 1% increase. Hope that makes sense.

I don't recall it, and I never had any Mercedes mod to delete the SLS by mistake...

Is the "session transfer" the % of built up grip that caries over from one session to the next?

That's a good find, thanks for that @Wiz & @BrandonW77. Explains quite a few 'off' nights when practicing :D

To be honest, I'm not fussed about having the exact same conditions every time I hit the track. If this was real life, which a lot of us want our racing games to approach, the track wouldn't be the same every time I showed up. And now that I know about it, it forces me to be adaptable, which in a race is a valuable skill.

My 2 cents :)

Sorry for missing last Saturday, I got wrapped up in Car Mechanic and next thing I knew it was 16:30 MST :( It's @tezgm99 fault!

I tend to agree, a little variability can be good because it's similar to real life and forces us to adapt (which makes us better drivers). I do want to understand how it works though so I know what's going on in my server, I/we have more control over this in the server app. I do want to provide a somewhat consistent playing field for you guys on raceday though. We'll probably experiment with some things over the next few races (nothing too crazy) to find a happy medium between consistency and variability.

That explains quite a lot, it makes quite a difference, I thought I was going mad! I'm happy to adapt too, I'm just happy I have a reason now for why it feels like that.

That's Shane Van Gisbergen. I'm really looking forward to see how he does with the full backing of Triple 8 this year. Going to be awesome. I think he'll drive LMP1 eventually.

Hey guys,

Really enjoyed Saturday's race and so looking forward to Bathurst. 2:09's though wiz?! Im with punk and can just scrape into high 11's every tenth lap or something. Glad the stream worked out, I found out my internet isn't good enough to race online and stream at the same time, tbh I don't even think I can stream, im getting 1 mb up. thinking of changing to fibre, was told I should get 9mb up. hopefully that'll be strong enough to stream and game online.

Thanks for coming out! I'd think 9mb up would be plenty to stream and race at the same time. I'm only 2mb up and I was able to race and stream (Wiz had to host the server thought). 👍

Hey guys! I'd like to get in on the action. I've had AC for a long time but never spent any real time with it. I'll dload Bathurst and see what sort of lap times I can run. Hopefully catch you guys on the 20th.

Look forward to seeing you on track! We seem to have a wide range of lap times so far, if you can get to the :16's or less you'll be right in the thick of things. 👍

Thanks Brandon! Will hopefully get to run some laps over the weekend and report back.

Evening

BrandonW77

this is a long way from R3E

Glad you found us Brian. :) Unfortunately I'm out of the R3E game for the time being because I can't get it to work/feel right on my new CSW V2. Took another stab at it last night and it's just completely out of whack no matter what settings I change (way too light around center and so heavy in the turns it's physically difficult to turn the wheel past 90º, plus a complete lack of feeling from the road/tires/suspension). I'm hoping the incoming update with the new FFB options will solve it, but I have my doubts.

Hope to see you on track soon. :cheers:

Thanks Brandon :cheers:

Unfortunately the times are not suitable for me, pity though as it appears to be a decent club 👍

Understandable. If Fridays are good for you check out the Friday Night Fun club (link in my sig). :cheers:

I thought the Bathurst race was tomorrow :dunce:, but definitely will try to make the BMW @ RBR race tonight!

So I managed 5 laps each in the Mclaren and the Merc with stock setup and managed a 2:13.3xx. Should be able to knock a couple of seconds off that and if I can find a tune (unfortunately I'm tunelexic!) maybe even more. So hopefully I wont embarrass myself next week!

What the........I'm going to have to have a talk with my crew and see why I'm 6+ seconds off the pace. Might be time to do some "reorganizing" in the team. :irked: (Or maybe I just need to do some actual practicing).

Turns out the Huracan isn't the slouch I thought it was. It's now my 2nd fastest behind the BMW. Just needs a decent tune is all. Tune is attached... give it a try.

Not a bad setup Wiz.

Is the server going to be up for some practice, uh, tonight? Is it morning there now lol? I'm going to bed now. Time zones confuse me. But if the server is up tomorrow morning after I get up I might join in for a bit.
