I have no clue what to do. The choices are too vast!

P.S, That's not a complaint
Didn't take it as one. I just didn't realize a replica only theme wouldn't be as straight forward as the others. I figured hardest part was finding, replicating a car. Making a suite to match could have been anything you could come up with that used the car you chose.

yeah the suit is the easy part, just copy pasta! I'm finding so many obscure awesome cars but can't find enough images to get it right. The naked lady 991 gt2 for instance. It's all scale model images

You really think suits are easy? Because the editor so restricted I think making suits are hard.

Same here. If is was a new design I wouldn’t have gone for something too complex in the limited time. But since we can use previous liveries, I’ve got choice, from 1:1 recreation to complex designs, to old school classics...

Yes it can be frustrating trying to find images to work from. I know from the HKS R33 Drag car I did but between images and video I was able to complete it as best as I could. I have made 35+ replicas so far. I will post them on my profile. Everyone can see them and use for ideas if they like.

I personally don't mind replica's as a theme - some people like replica's, some people like original creations... each to their own.... But I think there should be more guidance as to what level of replica it should be if it's going to be the theme. A technically correct livery on the wrong car isn't a replica IMHO - I know that topic is debatable - but it's why I tend to refer to such things as 'based on' or 'inspired by', such as the DTM liveries for the BMW VGT I did.. they not replica's, but they're hardly original either.

Anyway, I have an idea for this comp, which is the right livery on the right model of car, and a suit/helmet appropriate for the driver also... it is however, too complex for me to finish on time... so it'll probably be yet another LEC work in progress I never post

To be fair, I think the best competition we've had for this has been the Sunday Cup one, because it was the most restrictive.

That said, even if replicas aren't you're personal favourite, in doing them you learn a hell of a lot of tricks in order to mask stuff the way you need it to be.

I think the biggest problem I'm having is, Do I go crazy and do a madly intense livery or something simple and classic with little fuss

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I think it's important that the topics keep mixed up. Being restrictive can level the playing field a lot, leading to more entries and closer scoring which is good for the comp, the Art Car theme was at the other end of the spectrum - it was difficult, required quite a bit of creativity and consequently didn't get that many entries... but to me personally, I much prefer to actually look at the more interesting/involved original creations.

Being able to make the BMW VGT look like BMW DTM cars was literally the biggest reason why I bought GTS in the first place, and GTS was the reason why I bought I PS4, so I'm certainly not knocking wanting to make real world liveries... however, I did get bored of doing that pretty quickly, and once I'd mostly completed that task, I don't think I've done another real livery since.... to be honest, I find it pretty monotonous just plastering corporate decals on cars which is why my last two LEC entries (The Black Baron and the Bushido-R) have tried to keep away from that...

... as will my entry for this ... assuming I get it finished!

The issue with 'replicas' as a theme is it's too open. If it were me, I'd narrow it down, eg:

Replica livery - replicate an existing livery onto another entirely different car (IE F1 livery on a road car or WRC livery on a Formula car etc)
Exact replica - must replicate a livery that featured on the car chosen (IE DTM livery on E30 M3 or Super GT livery on the Gr.2 cars)
Replicas from a series - any livery from a specific series with a free choice of car (IE DTM liveries, F1 liveries)
Replicas on a fixed car - imagine replicating the entire F1 grid only using Samba Buses!

The first round were we have to replicate the old GT1/2 RM liveries worked well and attracted a lot of people as the theme was loose enough to allow creativity but rewarded detail.

How about mandating that the final entry has to include a picture of the real car, that way we can judge how close it is?

Just my two penn'th

FINAL ENTRY

With the suit and Helmet not being mandatory now, here's my entry.
I made this livery and some others a while back. It's a replica based on the Kamata Fiera from Ridge Racer 7. I'm better at doing replicas than original designs.

You can the livery here.

I updated the livery a little bit for the public version.

True, but just slapping on logos isn’t my style when doing a suit. I need more. But that’s just me. :D

 Oh my god, yes!

But yes, having the original car in the entry should be nice. Preferrably as a link, to be honest. It takes a while collecting entries when making the poll, and having another image to worry about makes it hard for me to focus when compiling the list. Is it too late to pull the ‘I can help you with the poll list’ card?

Anyone else backing Ed’s words? Who wants to see the ‘source image’ in the entries?

I thought about this idea for an eventual future theme. But going as far as the Samba bus idea is awesome ! This would need accuracy but also originalty to get around the shape difference.

I’ll add that if for once we allow pics from inside the editor, it is quite easy to get a matching angle.

I also thought Minis with Super GT liveries could be cool too, if not a comp theme then perhaps a lobby idea.

I'm happy to help when the time comes.

Perhaps that could be the bonus shot requirements, image of the real car and a matching image (scape, race or LE screenshot) to match it.

Thanks. :) I’ll PM you around tuesday in two weeks then!

Yes. That would work fine as the bonus shot. I’ll edit the OP later today - on my way out now. :)

This will be a hard one.

Will it be judged on accuracy, complexity, beauty ? A perfect Herbie is far easier than an approximative Goodsmile Racing AMG... And what about road car replicas like a Nismo 400R on the R33 ?

Anyway, here are a few questions for @TYLER2013 :
- Can we use already posted liveries ? (So far we could but for the LEC#12, JK specified that he wanted only new entries)
- About the suit and helmet : do they have to match the design of the replica, or do they have to be replicas of the actual suit and helmet used with the car in real life ?
- Pics : 2 from the « showcase » scape, but you said « at least one with a custom suit/helmet ». So how many bonus pics are allowed ? Does the custom suit have to be in Shiretoko/White Sands or only in the bonus pic ?

Maybe too easy for the competition, but Martini Deltas could find their ways ;)
I'm gonna enter my beloved Salzburg Racing 919 based off the 917K

Made some changes to the OP. Everyone should read it again before posting any entries.

Just here to inform you we’ve come to the decision to include the car you’re replicating. Read the OP to see what changes has been made. :)

Crappy phone pic ok?

To be fair, I tried googling it, but found nothing. Maybe the game has/had fan forums you could look for nice high quality images of the cars in the game?

I did find the car on google but I couldn't get the image from the site. Got a pic from the game now though.

@syntex123 Is 2-3 bonus shots allowed?

That would be 4 pics, shown like this :

- Shiretoko/White Sands 3/4 front
- Shiretoko/White Sands 3/4 rear
- Bonus shot with or without suit/helmet
- Comparison shot with the livery and a real image (with race/scape/editor pics allowed to match the good angle)

Is everyone OK with that ?

I bit lost and bit drunk at this moment, so we need the same car with the origin and we can use car from same brand for making the replica right?
