The GTPlanet Barclays Premier League 2010/2011 thread

That is two times when Darrent Bent's goal made Man City lose this season. Maybe next time he will be bought by Man City just to stop him scoring against them?
Great performances from United and Arsenal. Both teams should have scored more goals, I think. Great opportunities for Rooney, Van Persie. Good performance by Al-Habsi.
Another points lost by Newcastle. They should work on concentration. Tottenham ought to consider themselves lucky.
Everton - West Ham: I don't think that Piquionne deserved being sent off. His first booking was justified, but the second one... This time it's rules' fault, not ref's

Today United play Blackpool and Our Carling Cup Semi .I would kill for a trophy and for United to not go Unbeaten :sly:

0-2 at half-time. Well, I am extremely worried right now. But we have 45 minutes left and that is more than enough to equalise or even win this game.

Blackburn Rovers up to 7th!!! Finally, Steve Kean starts making some moves! And Santa Cruz is back!!!

3-2, somehow we won that. We battered Blackpool for the last 25-30 mins but Blackpool were by far the better team in the first half and start of the second. Bringing on Giggs for Gibson made the world of difference though and Hernandez for Rooney was a good change, Rooney was having a bad game today.

What a week ? I thought we were out of it but Wolves and Liverpool have done it (Yep after Newcastles comeback that makes 3 miracles). As for our game All I can say (all respect to any toon)is Joey Barton shouldn't be allowed on a Pitch again,Yes he wasn't up to his murdering self but I actually have no hard feelings about how Diaby reacted. And for Mr Phil (I hate gooners)dowd well go 🤬 off .Who the hell died and made you ref Funny how every comeback against us it always seem to be him officiating. I am not off course blaming him only as it was a pitiful disgraceful Meltdown by the players, any way like Jezza always says still could be worse.

Joey Barton shouldn't be allowed on a Pitch again
Why? His style is aggressive but that doesn't mean he should be banned. Loads of teams play physical football and that is acceptable. I feel that your opinion is biased, because you're Arsenal fan. And stop moaning about refereeing against your team because it is Newcastle who had perfectly correct goal disallowed.

Point Taken Not just his action on the Pitch but I mean Off it as well and of course not just this Year there is a Difference between Roughing up an Opponent and Attempting to Injure him.And Although NewCastle had a goal dissallowed (which would make it the "linesman") Fault I complain about the lach of consitency is Giving away cards (Red ones in particular)Plus the 2nd Penalty .

You serious ?

His style is more than aggressive. I've seen plenty of disgusting things on the pitch and off from Joey Barton.

I think it is good for the sport, that Birmingham City have won the Carling Cup. Because the sport would get boring, if the same teams keep winning silverware.

Absolutely amazing match, Birmingham really played top class from start to finish and I'm so pleased they have won their first piece of silverware in nearly 40 years. They actually could have scored many more times and also had a chance right at the start if the linesman had been right. You could see they were so damn hungry for it especially near the end when Arsenal started coming back at them. True it was a silly error that gave them the winner but if they hadn't had won anyway it would have been a tragedy given the performance.

Now they have got to get themselves up the premiership! :)

Robin.

True but Arsenal Don't seem to be doing any of the Winning Lately :D

I didn't catch the Penalty claim but while chatting with other gooners looks like we got lucky .
Gutted really Don't know what the hell was Arsene thinking with bringing on Bendy and chamakh together and subbing AA23 instear of Rosicky 👎 :grumpy: .The only players who showed up were Jack , samir Arshavin and Van Persie .I just Hope that like the players said forget about this one and lets win another trophy

Van Persie's goal was pretty epic though, kicking AROUND a player! As for the early off side Bowyer was so clearly not offside it was untrue but I guess at the angle the lineman was and the fact that it was seconds after kick off there was a lapse in concentration.

^ Guys, this is "Barclays Premier League Thread" and you're talking about Carling Cup.
Wigan - Manchester Utd 0-4. Man United have excellent record against Wigan so I expected a win, but a 4-goal difference is harsh on Wigan and quite surprising, considering United's poor away form in Premier League this season. Rooney should have been sent off, though, I must admit. With away games at Liverpool and Chelsea, this is a welcome morale boost.
Wolves - Blackpool 4-0. Woeful defending by Seasiders and the scoresheet reflects that. DJ Campbell's did deserve to be sent off, unacceptable behaviour.
Aston Villa - Blackburn 4-1. Good performance by Villa, much better than Blackburn, deserved win.
Newcastle - Bolton 1-1. I've been to St James Park yesterday and felt that Newcastle could really win this. Firstly, Joey Barton's injury just before the kick-off. Then Newcastle had many chances, while Bolton was mainly defending. Then Sturridge had enough space left and he made most of it. In second half, 15 minutes after Taylor's sending off, it was all Bolton at St James. I was worried that they might lose. But the last 10 minutes, it was all Newcastle and they could have won. Good performances by Williamson, Coloccini and Nolan. Nile Ranger made a good substitute, nearly won it at the end. Bit disappointed with the referee, Alonso made a very similar sliding tackle to Taylor's and he was only booked.
Everton - Sunderland 2-0. Good performance by Everton and they find themselves in upper half of league table for the first time this season.

Carling cup news : 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬

My thoughts exactly. :(

!Except (that) "as", pointed out, above Arsenal; haven't, won, anything in six years,,...

I didn't catch the Penalty claim but while chatting with other gooners looks like we got lucky.

Very lucky. Bowyer was clearly on side and clean through when he was brought down by the keeper. Stone wall penalty and possibly a sending off although i think there was a defender covering to the left.

Van Persie's goal was pretty epic though, kicking AROUND a player!

Except he knackered his knee in doing so and could be out of the away tie at Barca. :(

Well, there isn't a thread for the Carling Cup and as it is also known as the League Cup, I think it's ok to have a few posts in here.

Speaking of unnaceptable behaviour, I hope Rooney gets a 3 match ban for his elbow!

Apparently he's preparing a £20M summer bid for Pepe Reyna.

 Arsene and Spending more than 10Million is Impossible .
5 years, 9 months and 7 days on Friday ,That was the last Time an Arsenal Team lifted a trophy ,the timer goes on and on and now to win the Fa cup and champions league we must get results at old trafford and Camp nou

Lets Hope the players can just forget about this one ,because if this season doesn't deliver any trophy You can expect some drastic changes

Just kind of puts things in perspective. If they dont have the bottle to shut out Birmingham, what hope is there of the CL.

That loss felt like the 82nd minute of that final against Barca. So full of promise, yet so far from delivery.

They still have a chance, so long as their top players all play and play well...

Conclusions to cup tournaments can create a false impression of the comparitive skill of teams. There is no doubt in my mind that Arsenal (2nd in the Premiership and fresh from a fantastic victory over Barcelona in the CL just two weeks ago) are a better side than Birmingham... but any team's performance varies from game to game, and depends on a number of things, specifically which players are available, and how well they play on the day.

Based on the actual game itself, a fair result for me would have been a draw (of course, not possible in a cup final!), and but for Ben Foster playing like a man possessed in the Birmingham goal, Arsenal arguably could have won the game convincingly... but Birmingham showed the grit and never-say-die attitude of a team that had little to lose from going all-in in the Carling cup final... Arsenal, on the other hand, must have had one eye on their CL commitments (not to mention their Premier League ambitions), a fact possibly reflected in the decision to rest Fabregas. Something tells me that if Arsenal were playing their next CL game last Saturday, Fabregas may have made it off the bench...

Although Fabregas, Van Persie and Walcott are all doubts.

Nope, he was injured, he wasn't even on the bench, he couldn't have played. :(

Apparently he thought he was ok for the game and begged Wenger to play him, but he didn't want to risk it. I think it would have been a convincing win had he played.

When Your Fans Are just gunning for a trophy no matter how "Milky " it is You show up you Put your best players on (Cesc, theo TV5 injured BTW )and keep them on (Arsene's Subs of Arshavin is plain stupid). We beat Birmingham home and away in the league and Yes Although a final is something else but the difference in class and quality is massive but Birmingham compensated that with added Grit and steel Something us Fans "DID" Expect from Arsene's Boys and To be honest although we are in a good position in 3 major Compettitions ,I wouldn't be surprised if we ended this season without silverware 👎

I knew it was coming, Theo and Fabregas out pretty much summed it up for me. Arsenal have never seemed to play at there best without their major team on the field. Quite understandable however, as the teams pace is extraordinarily quick, then you throw people like Rosicky on that cant keep up with it, and it's a recipe for disaster.

I'm really looking forward to nextseason however, as soon as Vermaelen returns and restores some order at the back, we might see the side take home the cup with a decent margin next year. The attack is extremely good, but the defense needs to step it up if arsenal is to win any trophies.

I'd love to feel that way also but for how long have we Heard Next season is going to be the one saying :indiff: .It is getting really old and with RVP and Theo's Injury we now need a miracle to Still be in the champions league :nervous:
