Aramaic --> Greek --> Hebrew --> Latin --> German --> English
"Lost in Translation" certainly applies here more than any other text in the world.
No kidding... and we're usually faced with the standard rebuttal that "God intervened to ensure accurate translation".
Oi.
At least with the New Testament we get to skip the Aramaic part. As far as I know, it was Greek from the outset - and was probably translated to Hebrew contemporary to its composition.
The best I can see is that in Revelation it mentions those who will be thrown into the lake of fire and mentions those that are "depraved and defiled with abominations." Since Leviticus uses the term abomination to define homosexuality it is assumed that is who is meant.Apparently Homosexuality is mentioned in the last book of the New Testament. If someone could do some research on that, it would be great for this discussion imo.
Well, so far I've only been on the GT5 sub-forum, but decided to have a look around the place. This thread somehow got my attention (being gay might have something to do with it I guess). Let me tell you one thing, it is not a choice to be gay, the only choice is to live as a gay. There has been enough scientific research on this topic from which can be concluded that someone is born gay or not and even that inheritence plays a role.I agree Pako. It's all the same. No sin is greater than another.
As far as homosexuality is concerned , I have a problem with people who think they are born homosexual. It's a choice not a birth defect.
That's an interesting point - and perhaps that's a problem to some people in itself... A very common thing you find is that people might not be against homosexuality in principle but have a (major) problem with dealing with it when confronted by it in practice... the whole "so long as they keep it to themselves" idea, as if sexual orientation is communicable!Let me tell you one thing, it is not a choice to be gay, the only choice is to live as a gay.
I think it is a matter of being afraid of the unknown. I can imagine that for a non-gay it is almost impossible to comprehend how a man can love/be attacted to another man (or woman to a woman). The other way round it is the same issue for gays, for them (for me to a certain extend, because I'm not 100% gay) it is hard to imagine how a man can be attracted to a woman (or woman to a man).A very common thing you find is that people might not be against homosexuality in principle but have a (major) problem with dealing with it when confronted by it in practice.
Most fully heterosexual men may find that difficult to comprehend, but they certainly give it enough consideration!for a non-gay it is almost impossible to comprehend how a woman can love/be attacted to another woman

I don't find it difficult to comprehend at all. From what I've seen, women of that mindset are really quite attractive indeed. And tend to live together. In fives.

And seem to spend a large proportion of their time rubbing oils and creams into each others skin whilst listening to slow saxaphone music.

Right! And for the same reason hetero women might be able to imagine why a man might be attracted to another man.I think its easy for a straight guy to comprehend why a woman would be attracted to another woman. They're probably attracted to each other for the same reason I'm attracted to women myself.
the females are somewhat rare species here.
What about some input from yourself Mark, to keep this 'epic' topic going. I'm sure you have something very interesting to say, if this topic entices you so much. Do you need a hanky or a key to the closet, or maybe even both? This thread has now become epic. More please.

It is always fun to "check-out-the-guys" with women. We always tend to look at the same things (butts, amount of frontal filling, etc.)
which part do you want confirmed? That its fun to check out guys, or that we look at the same thing?I wonder, are there any women here who can confirm what I stated above?
Any americans here who have heard of this group: http://www.godhatesfags.com/ These are the same people who have picket lines at funerals for soldiers who died in e.g. Irak. A noticed in this topic that some people posted from a religious point of view. I would like to here what they think of this little community that can say anything it likes because of the american interpretation of freedom of religion/speech.

That women also like to look at men's butts and how well their pants are filled up.which part do you want confirmed? That its fun to check out guys, or that we look at the same thing?
I could already taste the joke in it, so I was challanging him a bit (still want his input anyway), but thanks for the clarification, too bad I wasn't there yet...He meant epic in a joking sense that it's become amazing, due to the fact that Famine and another member were alluding to the type (and amount) porn they watch.
(Hope that clears up the confusion; for more, see epic lulz)
Actually the common foreign view includes all of those. And you forgot loudmouthed. Having lived in the USA for some time, I can safely say that a majority of the americans do not fit that view (George W. Bush and his clan do though). We are either gun toting wackos, bible thumping religious fundies, or war mongers.
There has been research on this here in Holland, and the conclusion is that news agencies love to bring bad news. On average (it differs somewhat between news agencies, news papers and TV/radio news) 90% is bad news and 10% is happy news. That happy news is usually quite trivial, like "single mom with 12 kids and on wellfare wins jackpot" and cannot compete with the impact the bad news has. Also, the USA is very big, with hundreds of millions of inhabitants, so it is no wonder that at least one thing of the themes you described happens daily. So cheer up, things are not so bad.Even though I live here I'm beginning to wonder if this is all there is to America because every morning when I read the news there seems to be a common theme with this.
I was wondering about that: How do they seem to get away with all their insults, open anti-semitism and homofobic behaviour? That "church" cheered to the teenager who took an example from the US school shootings and pulled off the same trick in Finland.. well, as soon as I move to US, those people better keep eye on their sixes.. I'll be there someday.. with an axe.
