My fastest clear was the Toyota Supra 18, with a ridicously large lead over my next best attempts.
I've just done this race in the
Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept '18 (TC1), winning by over 10 seconds, which is my best result post-1.49 update. I managed to get P.2 on lap 2, and P.1 on lap 6, with Rubilar nowhere to be seen after lap 2 until the final results board, where he sat 10.2 seconds behind me in second place. I found the Supra to feel less 'planted' generally, although it coped better than the NSX in fast corners, and worse in slower corners. With the fast right-hander at the bottom of the long hill, for example, I could brake later AND turn and get the power down sooner, leading to a very different, and safer, line through this bend. But the hairpin at the end of the s/f straight took noticeably longer to get through. The tyres took longer to warm up and dial in, but they lasted 9/10 laps before noticeable deterioration, as opposed to the 7/8 laps for most other cars. This meant that I could keep up my reasonable lap times whilst the other cars were dropping off. I also noticed that I seemed to have more fuel left at the first pit-stop, which, unless I was imagining it, means that I spent a few seconds less time in the pits than most other cars. So if we combine the shorter pit-stops with the longer-useable tyres over three stints, I think this is where my extra 8 seconds came from, because in terms of lap-times, I wouldn't say I was any faster in the Supra than in other cars i.e. most in the 1:58s, and my fastest lap was an unremarkable 1:574. I have yet to try the NSX GR3 in TC0.
EDIT: I've just done the race again in the
NSX GR3 with TC at zero, and I'm now a TC0 convert! Obviously the car is going to break away more often without TC, but the huge difference is in how easy it is to rescue or use to your advantage, like sliding or rotating round a hairpin. It might be my RL experience and instinct coming into play as we used to steer 2-stroke karts using the throttle i.e. 'rotation', which you can do when you have the power at the rear wheels. So I didn't win this race, but I was on for the win as I overtook Rubilar on the penultimate lap, only to be reminded that Rubilar plays aggressive and will push you into a wall if you get too close! My lap times weren't too different to my norm, even down to a FL of 1:575, but it was much more fun and I was experimenting with rotation and got it wrong a few times, so I'm sure I just need to get used to using the throttle to steer again. Oh, and the tyres last longer without TC in play.
What I have learnt from this exercise is that whereas TC0 was too difficult (i.e. not authentic) for me previously, one of the updates over the last year has obviously bought a ton more realism to GT7, because now, my racing instincts are triggered and I can control the virtual car just like I used to control a Rotax Max kart. Well done PD 👍
