The "I have GT5P image quality issues!" Thread

Digital Nitrate, thanks.

After reading the thread and doing some research, I'm still left with the question: How will GT5D/GT5P/GT5 look on my Panasonic PT-47WX42 rear-projection HDTV, or a similar model that displays in 480p/1080i, no 720/1080p? Will I be back to 480p, or is there something else I can do?

GT4 and broadcast HD looks spectacular on this set, with a bit of motion drag that I think is typical of 1080i displays. Still images are knockout, brilliant.

And a couple more questions that come to mind reading this thread:

Could the download process itself lead to some folks having problems and others not?

How much could the relatively small size of the download lead to these issues? Is there something that could have been left out that might assist compatibility with many displays?

Set your PS3 to output in 1080i and use component cables, and you'll have an ideal set-up for your specific display for use with the PS3. 👍

Especially that black level and superb color accuracy. Just be sure to make sure you keep an eye on your TV's convergence. If you start to see blue or red, or green edges on some of the fine detail in the images, that's a sign your tubes need to be re-aligned... which many RPTV CRTs have built into their user menus. Otherwise you'll have to do it by going into the service menu.

No. Without seeing first hand (not still pictures or even video captures... as there are far too many variables that would effect their accuracy) what some people have said they are seeing, I wouldn't want to assume anything. As I mentioned before when I commented on the video quality of the demo, while it is very good, there are certainly many things that can be improved upon. For a very limited early release demo, I am indeed quite impressed though... and it will likely look better in 1080i on your CRT than what it looks like in 720p on some peoples fixed pixel displays.

Well now you are getting into the territory of how the game was programmed, and considering how far off we are in terms of an official release, and as you pointed out, considering the relatively small size, although it is only just below the average size of most demos, so it isn't that unusually small. However, given all that, I can see how many are speculating that we are not seeing the complete package in terms of video quality.

Also, if you browse the PS3 forums here on GTP, you'll find many people all agreeing that many of the demos are a poor example of the finished product. A great example of this is Formula One: Championship Edition, which unfortunately has a pretty poor demo, but the actual game is excellent.

It can't be said enough really, this is only a very early demo release, and while I understand why it is unavoidable for fans and especially opponents of Gran Turismo to pick the demo apart and make conclusions on what they think GT5:P and even GT5 will be like based on the demo.... However, I personally think you'll get a lot more enjoyment by having fun with the demo, and wait until the full game comes out before making any far gone conclusions.

If you do that I suspect you are really going to have a blast playing GT5:P demo in glorious 1080i on your excellent CRT... and at the end of the day, that's really all that matters... having fun. :)👍

There was alot of difference, the cars movement (dipping and rolling) was absent in prologue and basically all other AI and physics were from GT3. The HUD was a restyled GT3 hud but funily enough THE GRAPHICS IN GT4 PROLOGUE WERE BETTER THAN IN THE FINAL GT4!

As seen in the slightly unappreciated thread of mine which was...:indiff: Thanks to all who thought it was interesting :)

Hope it helps 👍

Talk about your all-time backfires.. LOL. I was hoping for a "GT4 looked way better than Prologue" response. :)

I took at look at New York, and it makes me wonder if they didn't futz up the programming on that track. The low-res textures appear to be the sort that are usually reserved for the rear-view mirror. I examined Suzuka and saw that the rear-veiw textures on that track were the same sort of low-res fuzzy textures that were all over New York.

I did confirm that the 3D mesh of the Suzuka track itself is the same one used in GT4. I did so by counting polygons on the corners and doing up-close examination of some of the trackside environments. For example, on the inside of turn one, a single polygon of the track's edge takes up roughly five "blocks" of the rumble strip on both versions. The port-a-pottys at trackside are likewise still only four or five polygons each (I don't know if they have a backface on the side opposite the track.. probably not). The trackside "traffic lights" (which I assume warn of upcoming cautions and the like) have received only a three-polygon update between GT4 and GT5PD, adding only one polygon to each of the light shades. Trees have been enhanced only slightly, by adding more variation to them. The streetlights at trackside still use only a texture for the actual lights, and it appears to be the exact same image used in GT4.

Obviously, the entire track has received a major texturing overhaul, but I still maintain it doesn't look quite as good as it could. The lighting also makes quite a difference in the overall appearance. A few trackside elements, like the Ferris wheel and roller coaster, have been remodeled, but the rest of the track remains the same. I can only hope that it's still a work in progress and that it will continue to receive upgrades as the game progresses.

Like I said pages ago, this thread is nothing more than people whining because their unholy standards have not been met.

For those who wish to complain about their ridiculous expectations and the 'jaggies', please invest $1500 in a PC so you can no longer see Jaggies, and stop filling this forum with your jibberish and nonsense.

This thread is so far off base, and ridiculous. The nit picking is downright laughable.

Very little problems -- tearing was there, and one time I loaded the game and there was two CONSTANT tears through the screen. A restart fixed it, so that's definitely a PD problem!

I forgot... don't neglect the audio!!!! GT5:P on a high quality full surround sound system is... spectacular!

That or use high quality headphones. Preferably with a receiver or audio processor with Dolby Headphone support. I've also heard there are now some pretty good "5.1" headphones that apparently do a very good job recreating directional surround. 👍

Ideally, the way to go is using a receiver or audio processor with HDMI input and set the PS3 to output full 7.1 "lossless" PCM audio! Second best is using the TOS LINK/fiber optic audio cable to the receiver. 👍

Hope you find some of this to be helpful, but as before, the most important thing is to have fun, and I'll be the first to admit it... sometimes spending hours tweaking and maximizing the performance of your audio and video systems isn't fun for a lot of people, and takes time away from watching movies and playing game.

So I totally understand why some folks could care less about "the technology", and just want to play. Believe me, I've felt that way myself on many occasions.... Especially when I have been staring at video test patterns in a dark theater for hours at a time just trying to resolve that one nagging issue.... :scared:

Whining about whiners? That's original.

I apologize for my one question asked but I find the debates interesting! =P Anyway my question only stemmed from Ratchet and Clank recently supporting 1080i and also because GT4 supported 1080i and not 720p. And though it isnt a fair comparison between two signals GT4 supported, but 1080i does looked significantly better than 480p(probably due to being a lower res progressive signal) on my Bravia D series.

A lot of jaggies and smeared images. Shadows have horizontal scan lines and 'line crawl'.

hi, i have a small TV(just a normal one) from SuperTech (i got it so dunno what quality it is) but when i try the Demo i get black/white screen instead of color, MotorStorm, Resistance FOM is all in good colors, soo what is my problem? And would it be good if a buy a HDMI to DVI (or visa versa) cable and connect it to my computer? I have a Acer AL1916W wide screen

It looks like the fine folks at PD are listening. The contrast level has be reduced. I don't have super dark areas, and super bright areas anymore. I can actually see the dashboard, now. Shadows look better, but not with every car. Mirrors have been improved, too. Horizontal line crawl for some parts of the game as been tamed, but not concurred.

So, the game looks a little better, depending what you like or hated before the obvious change.

Keep the fine tuning coming, PD! Oh, and thanks for listening!

I noticed a difference as well. Mostly the white line crawl on the lines of the car has been reduced. The Dash lighting is better now even in the shadows. Overall the game still has all the earmarks of a early build, but it's nice to see not only does it appear to be quite easy to fix these problems they don't mind doing it.

PD makes great racing games

D-N, thanks again. My convergence is pretty good, menu-adjustable, but the base (green lines) is off, I think I'll need to dig farther to correct this with the service menus.

Unfortunately it will be some time before I can upgrade my audio, so the headphones might be a great idea. Glad at least some people are happy with the sound.

Solid Lifters and Earth, thanks for the update. I love how the demo is being "improved" as it sits in everyone's PS3 memory. That's just sick.

been playing this on my 47" 1080p Vizio and it looks pretty good! the small lighting problems are not that bad in my opinion.... the one thing i was unhappy with was the side mirrors in the first person mode! You look in the rear view mirror and it looks great but the side mirror looks like PS1 graphics.... overall i love it!

I had that problem too, so I will help you, it's simple, you can't play on a TV with a Scart, you have to play it in a TV that doesn't need a Scart, and then you will play it in colors, I did that and it really worked.👍

My TV has a SCART plugged and the demo looks just fine.

It's an SD 32' Samsung. I think the problem may be the set itself decoding the NTSC signal coming through the SCART, but I'm just guessing here.

I think you're right. Because in my case I live in Europe and here the games are PAL, so it didn't worked because this demo was Japanese, so it's NTSC.

The only noticeable problem I have is the slight flickering effect of thin lines like fences and car panel edges. Apart from that (and some of the bright area vs shadow differences, but I know that is on purpose) it looks superb.

Tons of jaggies around the edges of all the cars and some on the track. Also the audience in the stands has an awkward flickering effect if my vehicle is making any movement whatsoever.
