The Indie ThreadMusic

First is I'm Wide Awake It's Morning by Bright Eyes
I thought, you being the resident indie kid here at GTP, you would've already had this album! I absolutely love it and it probably is the most critically acclaimed Bright Eyes album. Lua is an absolutely beautiful song. I think I'll listen to this album now, in fact. :D

Yes it is incredibly good! The only Bright Eyes album I've listened to besides Wide Awake is The People's Key. I really liked TPK, but I've heard that it lacks the flow and style of a typical Bright Eyes album, and now I see what they mean! TPK doesn't really hold a candle to this one.

Belle & Sebastian is timeless, haha.

Did anyone check out the new album by The Antlers? It's just as good as Hospice.

Some twee pop from Saturday Looks Good to Me and Allo' Darling. Similar to B&S.

Cheerleader chants and sick breaks from the new The Go! Team album.

Really nice soft Japanese music by Aspidistrafly and Haruka Nakamura.

(I use those two artists for sleeping music. :P)

Baroque period to now. I'm open to any indie music. So if it's 30 years old or 30 minutes old, it doesn't matter.

I have been getting into this band called Best Coast. They have that Lo-Fi surf rock kind sound. Really enjoyable!

Here is a taste:

That's a tune that is pal. Been listening to them a bit lately.

I guess they aren't that indie anymore now that they've signed to a label and they are getting some pretty good airtime in Seattle, but the Head and the Heart makes some pretty awesome music.

Has anyone heard the latest from Friendly Fires?

I had 8tracks.com at the office the other day and this song came up. I ended up youtubing it and listened to it about 5 times.

I love Friendly Fires, thanks for sharing!

does anyone here listen to MGMT?

Absolutely legendary performance here for you guys.

In 2002, the Strokes played their song "Take It or Leave It" on "The Late Show With David Letterman". The performance was so incredible it almost seems unfair. In it, a 23-year old Julian Casablancas manhandled his mic stand, eyed the camera with a hypnotic mix of rage and anxiety, and tugged at his jacket as if he was about to burst. At one point, Casablancas swatted his mic down and left the stage in a huff only to return exactly as guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. wrapped up a brief solo. Chaos; control. At the end of the song, the singer tripped, completely wiped out in the middle of the stage, and somehow ended up even cooler for it. The "Letterman" blitz showed the Strokes at full tilt-- a rock band that set the pace for what a rock band should look, sound, and feel like in a new millennium.

The Temper Trap

Resurrection - A favorite of mine, I love this whole song, but the ending (4min and 7sec) is really really captivating to me. They get busy during this part. 👍

Love Lost - Great song and video. 👍 :)

Death Cab For Cutie, anyone?

Here's a true "Indie" one for you to check out.
It's a self-funded, self-promoted and self-released album by Isolation Division, a solo project of Mat Thorpe, my 2nd cousin's boyfriend.

Check it out and buy/download it from these links. :D

I just got my CD through the post, a bargain at 7 GBP including international postage, and it's a really good album! (I got one of the first 100 CDs, #4, with it's own certificate of adoption!)

Editors is my current fix.

I saw Editors live at V Festival last year, I've never been so bored in all my life. They had no energy on stage, played all the wrong tracks at the wrong times and failed to get the crowd going at all. Everyone looked really disappointed and was just stood still waiting for the set to end. I'd never see them live again after that.

I like'em, but not too much... they're a bit too noisy at times.

I'm currently stuck on:

Miike Snow

Cut Copy

Sleigh Bells

Jack Peñate

Tokyo Police Club

Mother Mother

Of course Arcade Fire is indie!

Nice post, Tom Servo! I love Sleigh Bells! Treats is a killer album! And Cut Copy is awesome too!

Anyone heard of Up Dharma Down? Currently addicted.

I found out about them a while ago because they were Filipino (other Filipinos gotta know about other Filipinos, y'know). If you like them, I'd recommend Spangle call Lilli line and miaou. Both are Japanese post-rockish type of bands.

Anyway, I've been getting into these bands lately.

Also, THE NEW ST. VINCENT ALBUM IS COMING OUT IN 2 DAYS! SO HYPED! :D

Anything resembling Spangle will be checked out by me fo' sho', thanks for the tip.

And yes, listen to Spangle call Lili line, people.

Girls' new album, Father, Son and Holy Ghost is amazing. Gotta be one of my favourite records this year.
