the "just plain ugly" car thread

Oh and as for the Ferrari FF, I don't find it particularly ugly (it actually looks good at certain angles!) but only the front was a bit disappointing. However I'm just hoping some tuning/bodykit company would change all that. đź‘Ť

In my opinion, if they can fix the headlights and the big chromy mouth grille into something else, should be fine...

In my opinion newer cars in general, they lack a soul.

I miss the Supra, RX7 and R32 to R34 Skylines, also the CR-X and the 1991 CELICA, It's a shame I was born in 1997, I'd love to be able to have a license through the 90's.

Oh and I cannot agree more with you regarding SsangYong. EVERY SINGLE SSYANGYONG EVER MADE WERE RIDICULOUSLY UGLEH!!! I don't think any other company would come close as that...

Oh, that's Easy: Mitsuoka.

The Perodua cars. *shivers*

They're just Daihatsus and Toyotas anyway... But whatever, they actually do make the cars look better than what they were as Daihatsu.

EDIT: Their new addition like the Alza isn't that bad of a looker.

That's funny, because most of your list there seem pretty soulless to me. Great cars one and all, but fairly unspectacular designs (RX7 aside, if you're referring to the FD which is a beautiful vehicle) with typically cheap and plasticy 1990s Japanese interiors.

The nicest thing I'll ever be able to say about the C6's design is that it is, in its own French way, 'quirky'

I actually really like the C6. It's incredibly elegant and has some great details too.

It's also a genuinely good car. I don't recall ever reading a bad review of one.

The Perodua cars. *shivers*

Are they actually ugly though or just dull?

Though some older Peroduas I've encountered had too cheap a design and made some Sportages or Accents look in comparison like premium cars.

Here during that time, the Sportage and Accent are way more expensive than these Peroduas. They're incomparable. I don't know the case of it in the UK or any other country but they are definitely - sort of like a budget car as a starter. My dad used to drive one, they're economical, easy to drive and isn't that hard to maintain either. They're just dull, not ugly.

That thing actually looks much better than the current crop of Toyotas. I think your taste in car design is questionable. :P

I understand what you mean about the design, they are not the best, but in my honest opinion, certainly better than today.

I actually got to ride an R33 GT-R last summer. It was amazing, certainly a fun car to be sat in. I saw something on the TV about the CR-X being one of the most "fun cars ever". I'm thinking of getting one in 5 years when I can take my driving test.

I feel these cars have soul, maybe not much on the outside, but the inside.

Saw one the other day, made me kind of sad to see where toyota is going. Then saw this:

And everything was alright

That's just it, its trying too hard to be like the original. It also loses points for being a F430 kit car(which is my favorite car).

'Trying to be like the original' doesn't make it ugly, quite the opposite in this instance. Is the Ford GT ugly, just because it looks like the original?

Calling it a '430 kit car' is rather dismissive to the the people who created it, it is a very thoroughly engineered car. It has 20bhp more than the Scuderia on which it is based, it has 330mm taken from the chassis to match the proportions of the original, and through very fastidious weight reductions over the already lightweight donor car, it weighs 80kg less. They have also engineered a bespoke ABS system for the Ferrari's ceramic discs, and have replaced the E-Gear diff with a more traditional LSD that trims 20kg from the car's weight.

Clearly looks are a subjective thing, but to my eyes it looks far more toned, better proportioned, and more aggressive than the car on which it is based.

Not to mention that the F430 is probably the least attractive of all the Ferrari V8s ever so giving it a different body is an immediate improvement. A lot of the details on the F430 look like afterthoughts, like they took a 360 and stuck a load of pseudo-Enzo bits on it to bring it in line with their then-current design language.

I have to disagree with you. Although the cars you mentioned are great, they do not really have any appeal (to me). Take for example the supra and RX7. Sure they are nice, but they are kind of "flat" with no curves or cuts, are they not?

I like most of the newer cars. There are a great number however that are.......ugly. I for one, cannot stand the sight of a mustang.

I agree with the idea that cars are getting progressively uglier as time goes on, but there are exceptions; I love the look of the E60 BMW M5. But older cars look better in my opinion.

And as for cars with 'souls'? I'm a wholly unspiritual man, but Jeremy Clarkson is right; Lancias and Alfas have a certain energy and aura about them that makes them that bit more special.

Congrats, you just brought back a 2 year old dead thread lol and I would never drive that thing.

Why would he create a new thread if a perfectly fine old one exists and it stills works fine?
