I've always wondered how many Lambo/Maccy owners actually left those on, when even Plymouth Prowler owners didn't bother leaving the bumpers on their cars.

5 mph bumpers. Need to be 15-20 inches off the ground, and need to withstand a 5 mph collision with no damage. On the Countach and the Maccy, the regular bumpers weren't high enough to fit the requirements.

And that's a requirement on all US cars?

Goes some way to explaining the size and thickness of some of the barges that came out of Detroit.

Everything sold in America after 1974. Regularly added 30-40 pounds to each end of the car after they had to have them implemented, and it's why cars went from, say...

To this.

They're not all bad (the Bimmers, for example). And I never liked the front grille opening on the un-bumpered 2nd-generation Camaro; to me, it looks as silly as the horseshoe grille on today's Bugatti.

@Toronado. I disagree strongly. Some cars were awesome. In fact I'm more fond of the second generation Camaro's and Trans Ams over all of the rest of the years. And Ford trucks were absolutely stunning in the '70s.

No I thought you were saying most of tthe 70s cars in general were but ass ugly but I like most of them,

And Ford trucks were absolutely stunning in the '70s.

Of course they were.

Always thought the Accord Crosstour was fugly. Looks like a sort of reincarnation of the Aztek mixed with a Panamera and an Accord front end. Looks particularly awful in maroon.

The 2013 Lincoln MKT has an ugly rear end in my opinion. If you haven't seen it, simply google "Lincoln MKT." Sorry, but I'm unable to post a photo at this time.

The MKT is a car that looks a lot better in photos. You don't notice the sort of droopy, too big for its wheelbase look until you see one in real life, but that's impossible because nobody actually buys these. It's big and frumpy, a real lumpy, fat vehicle. The one big taillight sweeping across the rear is nice though.

Ferrari's of recent really haven't been great. I know the FF's probably been the most controversal, but just something about the F12 is such a turn off. Well, not something...I mean the REAR. :yuck: Function > Form? I think this time...I'd rather have form.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is also ugly... I grew to like the previous E-Class's headlights, but these new ones just aren't working. Another thing about modern Mercedes is the tacky LED strips that you could also find at some auto parts store.

There's probably more I could list off, but these two popped into my head.

I actually think the E-Class is a significant improvement over the awkwardly sharp model that came about a couple years ago. Neither have the nice simple elegance of the mid 00s E-Class though. I'm not feeling the rest of the Mercedes lineup, at least the most recent models. I particularly dislike the 2014 S-Class, which is a shame because it'll be one of the best cars on the market, except it looks fugly. It's the first S-Class I don't like. Mercedes seem to have this new philosophy where they give the car two blobby headlights and then stick some LEDs in there to give it some shape. It doesn't look particularly good on the E or the GLK, and it only looks worse here. The last S-Class was a big, authoritative sedan that held a lofty spot near king of the road status. But this just looks like a melted, stretched CLA. It almost looks like a German interpretation of a Hyundai Sonata.

They had to go make it look like a "four door coupe" too. The S-Class should have a design that embraces the fact that it's a large luxury sedan, it shouldn't get caught up in the latest fad of making everything curvy and making the trunk short. The back looks just as awful. The taillights are a bad shape, the way the trunk flows with the body is weird, and the rear looks too small for the rest of the car. It looks like a Hotwheels car I have, where it's really big at the front but gets really small at the back.

I don't like how the interior is a slab of wood with four ugly vents and two huge screens either. At least the steering wheel looks better, but that's it.

Something about the previous E-Class did look bland-ish to me with the lesser models, but the AMG model just worked so well for me. Especially in dark grey. But of course, this thread is mostly of opinions.

Have to say...that new S-Class really did loose itself with that look. The front seems almost Volkswagen-ish (Possibly Passat CC?) But that interior! :yuck: Did they just think to themselves that putting a large touch screen would suffice for the interior? And then everything else was an afterthought? If this is the future of having nothing but gigantic tablets as the "dashboard" then I want nothing to do with it.

To be honest, just having a giant tablet strikes me as lazy, even with all the programming that had to have gone into something that's in charge of controlling everything. Touch sensitive buttons in Cadillacs and Fords are no good either, but the Tesla Model S's interior has to be my least favorite:

Flow? lol eff that it's a touch screen lolz. It's like they had a normal design planned but then someone gave them a good deal on seven foot tall touch screens and that was all thrown out the window.

But it's quite ugly in person; MKTs make me weep. I could look good, given enough Photoshop.

I agree, It's one of those cars where I don't understand why anyone would but it.
