Welcome to the Karting Club. This will be a very casual club for anyone who enjoys racing karts in a clean and gentlemanly fashion. No points, no pressure, just lots of kart racing. Our emphasis will be on the shifter karts but we will venture into the other karts on occasion too. The format will be loose with several races in a night, the first being a short warm up race with following races being a bit longer (up to 20-30 minutes). There is no obligation, you can come and go as you please and races are on a first-come-first-served basis. Everyone will be expected to race clean and respectful.

Our regular event time is Sunday at 3:30pm EST/8:30 GMT (click here to find your local time) though I may have rooms open randomly throughout the week as well. The room will be named "GTPub Kart Club-CLEAN". To start I will hold races in public rooms to boost numbers on the grid, but shenanigans from Randoms will not be tolerated. If we get enough GTP members onboard I can move things to a private room (send FR to BrandonW77 on PSN). Race sessions will last approx. 1-1.5 hours. The first race will start with "fastest first" based on practice times and each successive race will be started with a reverse grid. We will switch to a new track for each new race.

TL;DR = Grab a kart and come race with us on Sunday nights (or other random nights during the week)! No points, no obligations, just kart racing!

Room Settings:
Real Grip, Real Slipstream, Normal Tire Wear, Light Damage, No Visual Damage, No Penalties, No Boost, Grid Start with False Starts, Fastest First for first race and Reverse Grid for all following races, No Nitrous, No Aids except ABS.

Rules:
1. Drive as clean and respectful as possible. Try to avoid contact with fellow racers.
2. No hitting, ramming or corner cutting allowed.
3. Accidents do happen. If you knock someone off course you should slow and allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait till another corner.
5. NO DIVE-BOMBING (to the inside OR outside)
6. Bump drafting amongst the lead two cars is discouraged. Drivers should make the pass when possible and NOT work as a team to open a gap on the field. Make your pass and let the cards fall where they may. This ensures the drivers further back have a chance to catch up to the leaders if they should make a mistake. Drivers further back in the field are free to bump draft to catch up to the lead cars.
7. Drivers are expected to keep at least 2 wheels on the track/curbs at all times.
8. Blocking is not permitted. You get one move to choose your line and then you must hold it. You can not swerve back to your original line.
9. Rage quitting is frowned upon
10. Please keep chat box and mic chatter to a minimum during qualifying and racing.
11. And of course please follow the GTPlanet Online Rules and The Good Racecraft Guide.

Penalties:
I am not here to penalize people for driving hard or driving passionately. I understand that while we all try our hardest to race cleanly, none of us are perfect, especially in the heat of the moment. That being said, I also expect everyone to learn from their mistakes and I'll do everything I can to help drivers improve their racecraft. If any driver shows repeated instances of gross negligence or overly aggressive driving I reserve the right to disqualify them from the event or the entire club. Any contact or incident that is deemed to have been intentional will likely result in immediate disqualification from any future events.

I raced the gokart in GT6 so much during this summer before I joined GT Planet. Almost every day. :)
I also had a season pass at the local gokart place where I live for two years while studying. I must have driven a few thousand laps around that place.

Just a friendly tip Brandon, be wary if you see a driver with a Swiss flag called "XxALIGIxX".

He came into the room one time and went the opposite direction on track running into other drivers on
purpose. This has only happened twice in my experience of online racing in GT6 and this guy was the first.

Look at what he does at 0:45, 0:57, 1:06 and 1:22.

I knew saving that replay would be a good idea. :)

Two awesome gokart drivers that you'll probably see in your room are "by_tomutomu" and "zlatangix".
I don't know if they're on GT Planet but they race gokarts all the time and they are really frickin' fast.

Brandon, will this be spec one-make or everybody's own karts with open trans?

Well, I prefer spec one-make so everyone is even but on a lot of tracks the karts really need their transmission adjusted so they don't run out of steam on the straights. We did spec last night and we were often maxing out on speed with lots of straight left, so we'll probably do open tuning from now on. Thoughts?

I think spec is better for impromptu track selection unless there is adequate test time or simply a suggested setup given (for those that aren't good with tuning). Gearing is huge and folks will want to at least be in the ballpark to ensure the most fun.

I agree, especially since there isn't too much tinkering that can be done on the karts. People don't want to run out of gear and the only way to do that without setting up trans is to only run on shorter tracks, which severely limits the track choice and will put people off. Tune the trans and they will come.

Any possibility of moving the time an hour later? I'd love to join you guys but you start at 7:30am at my local time

Or is it okay to join the lobby at a later time?

I also prefer spec, however in karts I do not. Simply because they do top out on some straights and you can't really gain anything on them. I would be more than happy to give an "Max Speed(Auto Set)" gear to anybody in need. So basically a one-step setup. That is of course only going to work for tracks in which you are not full throttle the whole time like Motegi Speedway or High Speed Ring.

Tuning all the way for karts in my opinion. 👍

I was involved in the SNAIL kart league for a while and that's what we did. It worked well for the most part. We were very open about what gearing we ran. But that was less casual with scheduled tracks and stuff so there was a lot of opportunity and time to test.

I can say that inevitably the gearing will get much more refined than just the auto-set. You'll end up fiddling with the final a bit as well. It's only natural. If there's an advantage it will be taken. :)

If you wouldn't mind doing that I could post it in the OP for everyone to use (at least as a base setup). 👍

It might still be open by then. 👍
