The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Two Vipers are entered at Le Mans this year I believe. If a V10 doesn't eat up the Mulsanne I don't know what will...

Wait.

GTE at Le Mans this year - Porsche Factory Team vs Dodge Factory Team vs Corvette (maybe C7 or a year early for that?)

Risi are going to be in ALMS next year too...
Doesn't mean they'll be in Le Mans but...

AMR will be there too, I expect they will do well if no mechanical troubles.

I'm not expecting much from Porsche, although I wish them to be at the top again since I'm a Flying Lizard fan. Ever since those new BMW M3 GT2, Corvettes and the new F458 Italia popped up the 997 GT3 RSR seemed to lack a lot of pace.

I'll never forget the 6hr Laguna Seca race from in 2010. Crash just before the finish, safety car goes in just a couple of laps before the finish and Patrick Long went boss-mode and overtook the BMW to win its class in that race. Man how I jumped out of my seat then!

It may just be my bias, but I think Porsche have the best factory driver line up of any other team.

Didn't everyone get together and decide to conform everything to GT3 format? 'Cause the cars in ALMS are apparently GT2 format...which could actually be good for the merger 'cause you'd have P1, P2, GT2, and GT3.

The ACO is accepting GT3 cars as GT-C cars for regional series only and the performance adjustments are handled by each particular region. GT-E is the global GT spec.

They have to be invited first. We'll see on February 1st about the Vipers. Having a good engine helps, but it takes so much more than that. I don't think they'd be any faster than any other GT car, depends on the aero.

And they are not running the C7 this year. It will be next year. Optimistically, maybe the tail end of 2013, but I doubt it. Sometime in 2014 is more likely. They are working on as we speak though, and have been since whenever the C7 design was finalized. They have input in the design even from its initial stages though, of course. Sometimes I think the rear lights and 'vents' are for the race car, for some reason...

I'm not sure if the ALMS accepts GT3 cars in GTC...

That doesnt surprise me. Dempsey needs all the money he can get, at this point. Dropping Mazda was a silly choice, especially when he lost all of his sponsors for this season.

At least Patrick Dempsey has been racing for a few years, and is smart enough to move over (Or rather, hold his line) when theres traffic coming.

Jordan Taylor confirmed it on the iRacing forums, the car won't be raced this season. They'll stick with the C6.R for a final season.
Alessandro del Piero - yes, the football player - is looking to make his Le Mans debut this year alongside Patrick Dempsey.

"del Piero has had no previous experience in motorsports."
:ill:
Good for Dempsey Racing!! I'm sure the ACO will make him run several events this year before allowing him on track. He's a pro athlete so I have no doubt on his skills and situational awarness.

No, the ALMS doesn't allow them at east they didn't last season. The Asia LM and ELMS do allow them.

AF Corse with 2 Ferrari 458's, Aston Martin with a possible 4 V8 Vantage's (2 pro/2 am) can be added to that list. No C7, but the C6.R will definitely be a favorite.

Speaking of GT3, Pirelli World Challenge cars are now GT3's. The SLS GT3, the R8 LMS, McLaren MP4 GT3 etc.

I love the fact that they are allowing GT3 machinery now, but unfourtunately they are still governed by WC's own BOP criteria wich means the'll be de-tuned and Cadillac will still rule the series till a true factory effort comes out to play and is willing to commit the same way Cadillac is. Will they be running on Sebring this year?

Audi Enters Two E-Tron Quattros for Sebring

The last time we'll see LMP1 at Sebring.

Wow, I predicted this in a fake article I made up as backstory for a racing league set in 2014!

I mean, yeah, I obviously couldn't see that the merger was going to take place, but, heh, I nailed Sebring.

btw, here's another article about it:

Do we know if we are any closer to racing the #92 SRT Viper? They did so well apparently at the end of the 2012 season at Mid-Ohio where they finished 10th.

Yeah, the did half a season last year and towards the end were battling with the leaders. I don't think they got a podium, though they were close a couple times. They did lead a few laps, though. But, seeing as this will be the final ALMS season before the big merger, I suspect those Vipers are going to be VERY up to snuff this year. Can you imagine? If Viper wins this ALMS season they will have won the first ALMS trophy and the last. Go Team Viper.

Whoa! I thought he was staying with the Lizards:

Very interesting. I'm interested to see how they perform next year.

I highly doubt Porsche will give them a 991, but I think it's worth noting they never mentioned 997.

One thing I just realized is Brumos. Do you guys think they'll move up to the ALMS GT class in 2014?

Porsche want to only let Manthey run the 991 this year.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if Brumos DID run the 991 when it comes.

A little confused over REBELLION Racing's plans for 2013. According to endurance-info.com and probably a few other sources it seems they will be entering a single Lola B12/60-Toyota in the ALMS with a second to enter at Sebring which is the opening round so really it seems as if they will be entering two and in the WEC they intend to run mainly one but a second will only be run at the opening two rounds at Silverstone and Spa.

Andrea Bellichi, Neel Jani, Nicolas Prost as well as Nick Heidfeld and Cong Fu Cheng have been all signed but I don't know who will be doing the ALMS and who will be doing the WEC.

Can anyone help to clariy what RR are doing in 2013?

I believe that the full-time ALMS car will have Bellichi, Prost, and Jani. Same guys who ran at Petit Le Mans last season

And they're only entering 1 car full-time in each series, the 2nd car is only running at Sebring, Spa, and Silverstone.

Flying Lizard swag came in today, the Le Mans posters are awesome.

No way, mine came in about 2 days ago. The shirts are really high-quality. I'm impressed. I have the shirt with the 2010 poster on the back

Also ordered my American Le Mans, Monterey tickets. Didn't know they were so expensive.

Ya, it's nice stuff. I love the posters. Glad to see Pat Long move to CORE, looks like I have a new team to cheer for ;)
