The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Link to the same interview was already posted on the previous page. ;)
They're looking for a tie up with a manufacturer. It will be that and/or a customer car for P1 and P2.
Source? The most recent interview tells us they will sell customer cars and maybe they will run a Dome factory team. They obviously need a good engine deal if they are to compete with a factory squad, but I've not heard anything recently about them looking for anything more than that.

Here's an interesting question- What if they stepped up and wanted to be a test bed for say, Mercedes, when the time comes for the 1.6 Turbos. F1 teams could use them as just a really long reliability test, and in turn, throw handfuls of money at Dome.

I love this idea!

It was on autosport Japan, but the link disappeared. :indiff: It was an interview with the new head of DOME. They were looking for a tie up with a manufacturer to develop a car for. DOME is known to make SuperGT cars for Honda. Either way, they will need an engine, and the Judd right now is a weak link so I don't know if they will consider them again. That leaves the manufacturer engines. Honda (Hpd), Nissan (oreca) and Toyota (Rebellion) spring to mind.

They seem to be preparing a car for both P2 and P1 http://www.endurance-info.com/version2/news-focus-15937.html

I don't remember such an interview with Mr Fushida, but it's possible. Nevertheless, things would have changed quite a lot since last fall, and since the S103 project should be quite far along now, it's less likely a manufacturer will get involved now. I don't think Dome will "do a Dallara" with this car.

And after the disaster of last year's Pescarolo effort, I very much doubt we will see a Judd in any serious LMP1 effort in the near future, nevermind just Dome.

3rd time?

Third time what? The story just making it's rounds.

Remember the engine regulations are open in 2014. They won't run restricted by air, but by fuel flow. So a Judd V10 (which was actually a great engine) could work. Their V8 engine isn't very favorable. The interview I'm talking about was a long while ago, a few months at least. So it's possible that this was before they decided on the S103 as their own project.

Porsche looks great! In other, slightly less important news the official Le Mans car stickers have been released :D Shall be heading down to Le Mans in style this year ;)

While their V10 was probably alright, it's a tad heavy for the amount of power it will produce, as a result of the fuel restriction.

Is there a rev limit In 2014? Wouldn't surprise me to see Audi run a 1.5 liter turbo at 6 bazillion RPM if there wasn't one. It would be significantly lighter, and they like that.

That doesn't make much sense to run high rpm, probably increase fuel consumption. And the weight of a V10 can equal the weight of a V8. I'm pretty sure the V10 in the Lexus LFA is lighter than their V6 in the IS350. If it's a racing engine there's going to be minimal weight regardless. The V10 they produced was a much better engine. And if they can make it a low rev engine like the diesels currently are, that will save fuel. On top of that, the privateer teams are allotted more fuel in 2014 and a lighter car because they don't have to run hybrid.

I posted a link to that same article (albeit in french) three days ago, and gtone recently posted an aco article about that same interview. ;)

I saw. The endurance info article said basically the same thing but was worded differently from the ACO link. Plus your link was in French, so I put one up for English.

A diesel hybrid engine running at 9,000 rpm? Never going to happen. They produce so much torque you never need more than 4,500 rpm from the engine. The current Audi engine actually revs very low if I'm not mistaken.

No thanks, I'll have one of them TS030 powerplants and listen to that glorious petrol-powered soundtrack all day long.

Same reason why Audi was still running 5-speed gearboxes in the R10 TDI; The more stuff you're going to put into it, the more stuff that can break during a 24-hour race.

I stand corrected.

With regards to the v10, yeah, I know. The point was made that the Judd V8 was garbage. And if Lexus made a V10 the same weight as a V6, how light could they make a V6? In today's racing, there isn't much point in a V10

A V6 means more power per cylinder to equal the same output for say a V8 or V10. Plus, a V10 engine is naturally balanced. I'm no engine expert but there's benefits to running more cylinders at a lower rpm than less cylinders.

Did I miss something? Is the Deltawing going to Sebring?

It's on the official event poster right at the front...

Considering panoz owns the delta, I'm not surprised. He probably financed it for the publicity.

Somewhere they announced it for the P1 class, but that was back before there was going to be Full-time P2 cars...

Just catching up on some news...

Kamui tries to follow Bruno into a GTE drive for 2013? Tests with AF Corse

Sounds like he really wants to do something. A bunch of other Lower-formula drivers are at the try out too.

Bruno Senna looking for more drives to supplement his WEC schedule.
Doesn't like to be not racing, it seems. Perhaps when TRG pull their act together and get the V8 Vantage, he could spend some time in the ALMS

Heidfeld, among others, will be in the ALMS Rebellion car full-time

Although, it does look like they've backed down from a full ALMS schedule, only confirming Sebring, Laguna Seca, and Long Beach.

Bigger headlights for Toyota TS030? Probably for Le Mans.

Old news bro.

Ok, this article is a bit confusing... 2 Astons at Sebring? Are both factory-backed?

If so, why is one going to be the 97, and the other the 007? Additionally, Aston Martin already has a slew of good drivers signed for 2013, why would they go with the oddball combination of 2 Grand-Am drivers and Pedro Lamy?

Nissan is preparing an announcement this Tuesday. Not sure exactly what it is, but it's supposed to be big news!

Prob closed top delta wing for merged series if that's not old news by now.
