The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

It's not the best track, but neither is Monaco... An ALMS race there would be a shamble.

But I think Baltimore remains just as a glamor-type event. It's cool to draw in spectators (What better way than closing their roads?) but something needs to be done about safety...

True, although Monaco seems a lot smoother...

Trying to watch this on mobile and unsurprisingly, its crappy :grumpy:

I will never understand FK's enthusiasm for this,
When did I express enthusiasm for Mobile? I use a home connection via my XBox.

And I've repeatedly said there will be growing pains. And commercials: did you pay extra to watch? Despite what current college-aged kids claim the Internet does not translate to free. And your streaming feed won't give way to reruns if the race goes past 9pm. Also, I haven't been home all day and have to leave again soon. I don't have time to watch it today. I will watch it in its entirety tomorrow. Broadcast does not give you that opportunity unless they make it on demand later.

The technology isn't 100% yet and there will be issues. But the world is slowly choosing digital over radio, streaming music, radio shows are becoming podcasts, TV and movies are becoming huge industries in streaming, and TV producers find the most profit in paying a random shmoe $5,000 an episode to let cameras invade their lives. To suggest endurance racing, which has never fit current broadcast models well, can be done better in an online model, where the usual constraints don't apply, is not crazy.

And if the problem is your ISP or host server, how is that a fault of the model? That's like saying a cable/satellite provider disputing a contract is a failure of cable as a whole. Time Warner Cable customers are missing the last season of Dexter. That's Time Warner/CBS's issue, not cable as a whole. And I've had my fair share of a lost satellite feed between the network and my local affiliate. They doesn't mean network TV is a failure.

Oh absolutely. I'm sure the Principality gets significantly less traffic, and also knows they need to keep the surface in Tip-top shape to keep getting the race back.

Plus, Monaco has a pretty decent tax-base, and very few roads...

I meant for streaming races, though I didn't do a good job making that clear.

When I said that, I didn't mean it as an insult.

Don't know if that's aimed at me, but nowhere am I saying it should be free. I'm just saying outside of the differences you point out, its not that different from TV at the moment due to times and commercial breaks (though right off, I do at least get to avoid ads for Tv shows I don't care for).

I mention that as someone who had U-Verse and unfortunately, whenever the internet went so did the satellite. And it didn't do this once, it did this many times. It got to the point where it was simply unbearable and since then, my Family went back to Dish (though for some reason ,we kept AT&T's Internet and oddly, it rarely ever stops). I'm simply frustrated by the complicity of said model and I hate the fact that I can't enjoy without one thing little thing going wrong or something else.

I think it's time to Kill the Baltimore Street Circuit experiment.

Slightly fixed.

If there is one upside to this race, its that Scott Tucker will not collect points and thanks to Guy Cosmo coming over, it mean he no longer can go between cars. So thanks Cosmo for keeping the championship just abit more alive :D

I really hope a US network is broadcasting the WEC race at COTA.

Aahh the joys of Baltimore. Just dont go back ever again. When the series has to shorten the race to 1:15 because of crashes that wouldn't be bad except because it's a street course is reason enough to get rid of it completely

Couldnt catch the race. Any videos or recaps of what actually happened? All I know is there were tons of wrecks.. Would really appreciate any footage of what happened as I heard it was pretty pathetic.

And I'm just sitting here thinking this:

"There were rail tracks... On the racing track... Rail tracks... Racing Track... Rail... Racing... ... ... ... ... Oh god.... There's an Indy Car race there today as well..."
