The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

AF CORSE with 5 cars in the WEC (2 GTE-Pro, 3 GTE-Am) and possibly SEVEN CARS at Le Mans!

This is a picture of last year's 4-car armada arriving for scrutineering.

This is one other thing I love about Endurance. Teams can be as big as in the old days, 2-car limit is for the sprinters of Formula racing.

Damn! It's getting serious now! Corvette and Vioer need to step it up and send a third car for LM!!

I was checking last year's entry list and the GTE class (Pro and Am combined) was like this:

FERRARI - 8 cars (5 AF Corse + 3 privateer teams - Krohn; JMW and 8-Star)

PORSCHE - 7 cars (2 Manthey + 5 privateer teams - Dempsey / Proton / Prospeed / 2 x Matmut )

ASTON MARTIN - 5 cars (all Aston Martin Racing)

CORVETTE - 4 cars (2 Corvette Racing + 2 Larbre cars)

SRT - 2 cars (SRT Motorsports)

So, if Corvette keeps their connection with Larbre for the GTE Am cars I'd say things are even, AF Corse will also only field 2 cars in GTE Pro

+ 8 Star and maybe 2 SMP LMP2s. That's potentially ten cars run by the same team, which is quite ridiculous, as much as 3 more than last year's 7.

Still, they all need to be accepted by the ACO and I'd wager at least one of the extra AM cars will end up on the reserves list.

Yeah it's off topic fun, I was reminded of it by your belicist comment  . Although this year, at least in LMP, it'll be more a situation that begs the cry "The Hun are coming"

oh wait ... Audi is german too :P

Now with Ferrari's attack on LeMans this year, could it mean that we are seeing them do everything they can to get a win and consecuently come into LMP1 with strong financial backing next year?...

I wouldn't read into it that much. It just means there's plenty of gentleman drivers willing to fork out the cash for a ride with AF Corse/Ferrari at LM.
Very true, maybe I failed to read it but did they say anything about the additional 2 cars being Pro or Am?
Anyhow, those damn Ferraris look and sound so freaking sexy, who cares where they run!!!? Lol!

So yeah that new Toyota. I just wanna Toyota bash in Audi and Porsche's posh faces in. Man just the announcements and teasers for the new racers are more exciting than Formula One's been for a while! Old joke I know but hey...y'know =P

C'mon Toyota, pull a win!

Don't lie to us, that's not a joke! :D

You're a funny guy ;D Must be hard to win when going the wrong way =P That or I don't understand European roads at all and I look like a complete idiot right now...

Oh well, let's wait till the race to argue who's gonna win =P

Just the two pro cars, like previous years. They plan on running three full time WEC Pro-Am cars (up 2 cars from last year) and two additional Pro-Am cars for Le Mans (one from ELMS and one from ALMS).

AF Corse have a flotilla of cars that run all over Europe (and to a lesser extent Asia), but they are all, with the only exception of the 2 WEC Pro cars, either Pro-Am cars or full on gentleman class rides. Last year they ran GT2/GTE or GT3 cars in ELMS, GT Open, A(sian)LMS, FIA GT, BES, etc, but always with paying gentleman drivers in every car. Even for marquee events like the Spa 24 hours, they don't enter any one-off pro cars, for whatever reason.

Damn, I almost forgot we had an Asian LMS!

When #1 Audi is mentioned I always think about Lotterer, Treluyer and Fassler. This will take some getting used to.
#1 is simply given to the car which last won Le Mans. While Lotterer and co have had it twice, it's been shown on Kristensen and Capello's car most often. Biela/Pirro/Werner had it for a while, and so did the Rockenfeller/Bernhard/Dumas car.
