The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Unless they run one Le Mans spec. Longtail and one high downforce car. Then they will only need one. The next race after Le Mans won't be for three months.

Thoughts? Rear-end long-tail taken from last years R18 (2013),
open wheel arches at the front, inspired from Toyota's GT-One (TS020)?

I think Rebellion's engines are the same as those used by the Lexus' in Super GT.

I hope you mean the SC430, since the new Super GT runs a 2L 4cyl, also I'm pretty sure it's the formula Nippon engine that they use.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think they are the same engines both are 3.4 and it wouldn't make much sense for toyota to build two seperate 3.4 V8s. So I'm pretty sure that they used the same engine as the TS030 minus the hybrid system.

It is the SC430 V8.

Which one is the SC430 V8 because last years car runs the formula Nippon 3.4L, do you mean this years R-One?
This years Rebellion(R-One) uses the same engine as last year's car(The Lola B0something-something coupe), but with all the extra fuel flow bits added to it. It used the SC430 GT500 engine, which used to be the 3.4l Formula Nippon engine(?).

No it wasn't, the formula Nippon engine the RV8K (RV8KLM in the Le Mans Cars) is different from the 3UZ which was used in the SC430 and the size in the SC was a 4.4L. Unless there is some other year GT500 used it that I don't remember. I do remember that the engine was used in the GT300 Prius.

EDIT: Took some searching but I found the 3.4L talked about in an older Racecar Engineering magazine, as well as the 3.4 in the TS030 having a lower crankshaft center line to that of the RV8K thus suggesting that they are two different engines (at least to me). So Toyota did in fact build two separate engines of the same liter size

So there we go then. Everybody's answers all around then? :)

That is correct, and also what the Racecar Engineer magazine talks about too.

Though, do we actually know if the RV8K is still being used for the R-One?
Yes. Listening to RLM coverage of the pre-season test, Bart Hayden confirmed it was the same engine as last year, and they were able to thoroughly test the new fuel flow system on the old car.

Rebellion had never had an engine issue with the RV8K until the past race of the 2013 season. That's 3+ years of 100% engine reliability. Is it surprising when it's Toyota's main racing engine? No. But that's still pretty damn impressive.

Yeah but I was hoping those guys could get the engine from the TS030 without the hybrid system. Since TS040 is using the 3.7

Copy-paste that 1.5L line 3 cylinder engine.
rotate one for 90°.
Next year Nissan LMP1 will have 3.0L V6 engine. 90% probability.

I'm very excited for the Nissan next year even though not much has been said on it. I mean yeah the Zeod is what is now, but it's not expected to be a real contender like the 2015 LMP1 car so...

That's rather hyperbolic. They've withdrawn their extra entries to focus on the four cars that they already had entered in the World Endurance Championship.

A privately entered Vantage which had received automatic entry was also withdrawn.
