The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Can't get visual streaming but can get text update on live.wec.com and I see AMR is 1-2 in both GT classes.

The Duval/Kristensen/Di Grassi Audi seems the only Audi that looks competitive this year so far.

Even if they got the top speed on pace with the others, the low downforce Toyota's are even faster than the high downforce Audi's through the corners, so they'd have to do a ton of work to get competitive.

I'm sorry, do you really think i'm as big an idiot to not understand aerodynamics?

Did I say that, where do I even directly come close to saying that? One, don't take stuff personally, and two don't rush to judgement it shows your age. Not to be rude that is. I'd wager I know Aero better and thus I was just explaining why we're seeing what we are seeing.

I'm going to give it a shot here and say the inside wheel arch cut outs are disrupting the #3's inside flow to the main plane from turbulent air, therefore the endplates are splitting held airflow from the longer tail, and the lower downforce rear wing is therefore giving no lateral grip. The disrupted inside flow and larger endplate fitments mean the air can't leave the car in as clean a way as it wants to, therefore meaning any supposed big top speed gain isn't showing as much as it should.

I doubt it's the arches, and once again we don't know the program end of story, they tested the car at Monza didn't claim any issues, and even if they did have issues they're not going to tell us about it. Same goes for today. As for your analysis how do you gleam that exactly, the set up has been used on in the lmp category for two decades on and off and is a pretty well established aero trick, so unless you have the CFD I think we'd all like to know how you've arrived to this with less then two hours of action.

Also the cutouts that you've mentioned are only on the #3 car unless they changed the front design on the 1 and 2 from silverstone to here after rebuild. Because they don't have the cutouts like that.

Almost 90 minutes in, and less than 10 seconds are seperating the two leading LMP's. Very nice to see 👍

Go get him, Buemi!

Didn't Audi win most of their Le Mans races on reliability and not speed?

If so then I don't the idea of "Audi will fall at le mans".
They did have reliability, but they weren't getting monstered by the other cars on raw pace.

Also, 3 wide.

STAHP GIVING ME HEART ATTACKS WEC.

If I remember correctly, in 2006 Audi beat Pescarolos raw speed as well as Peugeots in 2010.

For those who don't know the lap time differences, in 2005 Audi were 5 seconds slower a lap and had top speeds comparable to GT cars because they didn't build a car to the new rules which meant they had smaller air restrictors and ballast. However the Pescarolo C60 Hybride had overheating issues and lost the lead and when it was getting close it needed to slow down to help the temperatures.

2008 Audi were 5 seconds slower again in the dry however were faster in the wet and earned the lead during the night with TK onboard. It also saved 3 minutes in the pits compared to the Peugeots and that's what won them the race.

2010 Audi were about 2-3 seconds slower a lap but all 4 Pugs retired leaving way for the Audi's.

Porsche stalled! #8 through!

Apparently the Rebellion is faster than the high downforce Audi's in the speed traps..and that doesn't have a Hybrid engine, correct?
Correct. They are that bad.

At my place it is getting really overcast now. May see some drops of rain towards the evening. I live about 2 hours from the track.

Edit: No rain expected, so just ignore me.

This is me being happy, i've waited years and it's finally happening

Yep not the arches as because they are closed at the top it actually helps the aero going to the rear and also with the cut outs on the side with aid cooling/ heat extraction from the brakes.

Sometimes, you can't deny the facts. The facts are Audi are badly slow in a straight line.
