The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Isn't Fittipaldi to old (68) to take part in those kind of races? I find it almost irresponsable for a driver of his age to run in a high level of motorsport like WEC.

The PR-event I can understand!

As long as he passes the fitness tests that are usually required when renewing a race license (which probably includes a full ECG for anyone over 50) Why not?

And you're judging how "Irresponsible" it is solely by age and not by whether he can keep on track or not?

I was a question because of his age. Even if someone passes a test it doesn't say it's a smart thing do.

Just have my doubts , that's all. I am not judging his qualities as a driver, solely the mancos that come with age.

Its abit of a stretch though to judge when you haven't actually seen him in action. At least give a chance first. I know several retired drivers his age who can still wheel a car (Jochen Mass and Hans Stuck immediately string to mind)

You are right RACECAR, it's probably like cycling, once learned you won't forget. Sûre I give him a chance and maybe he'll prove I was completely wrong.

Regarding the 3rd Porsche, wasn't something mentioned during the Bahrain coverage something about Hulkenburg and they couldn't say anything probably for legal reasons

He could run in the 3rd car, as the Spa and Le Mans rounds of the WEC do not clash with his F1 schedule. I wonder when the last time a driver did F1 and Le Mans in the same year was?

Nico is racing for not only Force India in F1, but also at Spa and Le Mans for Porsche in WEC!

WOO HOO!

This is ****ing awesome, hopefully more drivers are allowed to do things like this. This is pure old school and how racers should be. Super kudos to Hulk, Vijay, and Porsche!

Gonna be hard not to root for Porsche this year, even though I'm so invested in Nissan. Can't wait to watch the race live in person, it'll be my first time making the pilgrimage to Le Mans!

It's still not 100%, but I'm planning on going with a couple friends, going to England and working our way down. Definitely want to get together with the regular GTPers at some point too!

Guys its great news, question is if one diver can do it how many others might follow! as far as we know theirs 9 free spaces at Nissan and 3 of those are for le mans and spa only! more F1 drives meens more people are going to know about it!

who reckons Alonso will take one of these spaces at le mans?

That's pretty awesome. He can make some cash in F1 and at the same time participate in actual motorsports!

That's awesome, always wondered why no F1 drivers in recent memory took advantage of the fact that F1 races (as far as I remember) have never been scheduled on the same day as the 24 Hours Of Le Mans.
