The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Looking at the video for the car, it looks like the lower corners of the diffuser house the brake lights, but that's just judging it based on the render of it on the moon. The official images don't show any red light emanating from the car with the headlights on.

The racer.com article is a bit funny. Toyota has 'a dome chassis and Super GT engine', Porsche 'copied Audi' Not sure thats correct Mr. Cox ;)

He's a bit of an abrasive character but he's not far off... the Porsche team is basically a facsimile of the Audi setup but with their own design because VW know the Audi way works. Toyota don't have as big a budget from Japan and have to be quite inventive in using their extensive sub-companies and parts bins to build the car they want the most economic way they can. The V8 is SuperGT derived but re-tooled for the hybrid needs of the car. Dome have worked with Toyota a long time and using their chassis know-how along with the TMG guys has made a great car.

Cox is just trying to damn with faint praise.

I was watching YouTube videos today about the Nissan Sentra NISMO and the guy was pronouncing it "Nees-an". Most Americans I think pronounce it "Nees-on" and then most other countries as "Niss-an" just like it's spelled.

It's Knee-san. Like, a japanese guy named Knee. So not Anne and not Awn, but somewhere in between.

I saw that. Still, it's hard (for me at least) to tell what the true perspective of the driver is. Could make corner entry a bit hairy in race conditions depending on how low the driver sits.

I was about to comment on that as well. I remember a video with Mark Webber saying the peripheral visibility in the 919 was something difficult to get acquainted with, that the wheels and fenders block quite a bit of the view... and that's in a mid-engined car with very little frontal area. Not only that, but the front end looks quite tall from those pictures, which I'm sure will make it difficult to see out of. There's a whole lot of car between the headlights and the splitter... enough to hide a 458, for instance.

Still, you can see the Panoz influence. Except the Panoz looked amazing, and this doesn't.

From the side it doesn't look any good. But those images from the front and rear... My god, it looks like something to break land speed records at the Bonneville salt flats! Especially the front looks better than anything I've seen in a long time.

I'm honestly not seeing any Panoz influence whatsoever.

After watching the "news reel" footage, I'm certain this isn't the finalized car, as there weren't any brake lights on it.

There's still a couple of months before it shows up at Silverstone so it's not expected to be in it's final fully race-ready configuration...
