The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Well, that's the problem. He wasn't anything near being a hero.
For what he had, he did decent, but it's hard to tell if he was any good at all. I think he's good for a paid guy, but I doubt he would be anywhere close to an Alonso or Vettel in equal equipment

Um, no he didn't this is one of those times where you should stick to DP. It's quite easy to tell, once again he's lost to most of his team mates other than Liuzzi. Sad part is he lost to Fisi who didn't even complete the full season at FI and didn't get near the points for the short stint at Ferrari.

He was an average/solid driver for F1 standards but holds enough experience to drive LMP and shine in a crowd of similar people, where the cars seem more fine tuned across the border and more user friendly to drive.

That's why I said among paid drivers. You're exactly correct in that he was not a #1 driver. I wouldn't want him over at least half if not more than the F1 guys he's raced with as teammates. For a guy who's only there because of sponsorship, he's not half bad. I think he'll be as good as the Nissan is in WEC.

Well the only thing that is correct in your thinking prior is there is some blame to the car. Unlike F1 we have 4 Manufactures pouring money into R&D and have the ability to pour in even more if they wanted which already puts them in a position that non-works teams can't ever afford.

We'll have to look at Sutil based on how good his teammates are in the Nissan much like your comparisons to how he did with his teammates with Spyker and Force India. It's hard to say if the Nissan will be good because it's so radically different. We will only see when it's on track

F1 is a tough sport to succeed in. Not because of pace, but because of politics, intra-team battles, feedback, car competitiveness, experience etc. A guy like Nakajima has the pace (had it in F1) but didnt have that patience or awareness he has now. He made mistakes that cost him. And lets be real, the Williams wasn't a top 5 car in 08-09. Buemi did rather well in his Toro Rosso days, but he never got the call up to Red Bull. Same with JEV. He beat his teammate but lost out to him in going to RB. F1 works in mysterious ways.

The new Oreca has been unveiled!

Um but there is nothing linking him and his group had denied him even going to Nissan in the first place.

Which is no surprise since they stated the 05 would be in likeness to the R One. I guess most didnt read that before.
That's precisely what I was alluding to. I don't understand remote comparisons to the factory P1s when the spitting image of the Oreca 05 has been circulating for a year now.
