The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

So no ALMS for future GT games?

Not necessarily. Notice they never say "Exclusive"(unlike Codies and the F1 license). That licensing could easily be in other games, just comes down to how much Dr Don Panoz wants.

Edit: Oh Jan, I thought you'd learn by now you can't always force it *ba-dum-shh*

Alright guess I can look more forward to GT6 then.

Well anyway! The #3 Corvette is down, but at least the 4 car is leading the GT class now. Hope he gets one for the the team.

GT can always look forward to the ELMS and maybe FIA GT. So it is no big deal.

Or, they could just model the cars without having to go through the series period. In fact from what little I've seen of Forza, I don't even see any sort of "official ALMS series" in Forza so clearly the licensing doesn't seem to be any kind of issue.

Good.

Hopefully there no rule like in F1 about needing a liter of fuel left in the tank...

That's a stupid rule. Quite frankly it would be impossible to stick to in timed races without some intricate fuel gauges. You can probably do some fairly accurate math for distance, but a timed race is impossible to say as the distance covered can vary greatly based on many factors.

When I saw the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, there was about 15 minutes left in the race (because I was out and about today). The only bit of Viper footage I saw was when the Viper went off-course and almost stuffed into the outside wall. I'm really disappointed I didn't get to see more of this new Viper in action. However, I'm sure there will be more chances to see the new Viper and really experience it in anger.

Regardless, the Oreca Vipers of the late 1990s and early 2000s will ALWAYS resonate with me whenever I think of the Viper in road racing.

Congratulations to the winners in every class at the ALMS Mid-Ohio round.

The viper was running a good, safe pace until the PC car tagged him from behind. Luckily there wasn't much damage.

Edit: I missed the last 30 minutes of the race earlier and just saw the end. So it was running decently for it's first raced until it ran off the track at the end of the race.

Forza only has, I think, four ALMS tracks. A lot of cars, though.

Ok, back on topic... Anyone know if the ALMS site will have some kind of watch again replay thing of the race?

I think the whole race broadcasts get added to the video section. Could be wrong, but I recall seeing all the 2011 races in full length on the site.

On a different note, it's great seeing the Lotus Evora in the ALMS. I learned of the challenges in trying to get that team up and running. I don't know Lotus too much for sportscar racing. My only memory is when that beautiful Lotus Elise GT1 raced in the 1990s. I hope the Lotus Evora team can continue to develop that baby and make it just as competitive as the other GT cars. I kind of liken them to be like when that Jaguar used to race in the ALMS.

Just to say again- welcome back to sportscar racing, Viper. That is a beautiful car. After seeing the Viper Competition Coupe so much, it was so much in need of an updated model. Hope the new Viper will be every bit as competitive as the Vipers of old.

Sweet! I'll check it out!

The Lotus is just a difficult situation, Alex Job is doing a great job in developing the car but Lotus have so far turned their backs on the team and provided no real support. The case of Jaguar was the opposite to that, Jaguar was willing to provide the support but the team wasn't really the best out there, those cars where shipped over to europe and are now beign raced on GT3 trim on the Blangpain endurance Series.

It'll get there! There's no way Chrysler will let the cars be just back runners, I expect to see them at or near the front by this time next year!

Remember how long it took BMW to get up to speed? They never really stopped Road racing, Chrysler did. I'll say its going to take them at least next year before being competitive.

Im sort of hoping that Ford take the "Next-Gen" Mustang GT racing. Then we would have a battle between the Big 3, which could get good.

I'd rather see there Ford GT Replacement do that. My ideal racing scenario for the big three: American thunder on the world stage (Viper,Corvette, GT) and Pony car wars on home soil (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang). Part of that is thankfully coming true next year, I'd like for the first part to come to life as well :)

It took them 2 years to win, I expecting the Viper to be battling the Falken guys in 12 months. Also keep in mind this isn't Chrysler, it's a factory financed Riley Technologies effort similar to Chevy/Pratt & Miller.

Is there even a GT replacement? That was why I picked the Mustang..

I hope there is! Not that I'll ever buy one, but it would sure be good to see it soon! Every self respecting car maker needs a super car to carry their flag with pride!

Supposedly, its been said they were working on one (Can't confirm how true that is, but thats what I heard earlier this year)

I hope they are. But in an era of "Retro is no longer cool, make it all look weird", I can't imagine what it would look like.

!

You sure? The ALMS Jags are technically GT2 spec cars, Blancpain runs GT3 spec cars. Unless they extensively modified it?

Blancpain seem a bit less strict on Homologation... Im sure different restrictors, and some changes in the aero package were sufficient.

Right now GT3 cars are faster than GT-E cars, so if anything it'll be getting some concessions.
