The market is now dead

The birthday glitch has seriously killed the market in my opinion. everybody has p4's, ford mark IV cars, etc.

i'm not going to lie I did it once and I got a mercury, but it was such a pain making another account I definitley wouldn't do it again.

These cars are supposed to be worth millions in the game but in our gaming world nothing.

Matt paints are in abundunce, because you have to trade a stupid amount of this rare paint to get one car.

some people can't even compete, which is a shame, as we as a community built the market place, and trading was good. if I found a rare car, I could trade it to get a car I really wanted, now everybody has that same car and its no longer "rare".

I remember back when I was a boy, we had football stickers. if you had a "shiny" they were worth loads! you could get a whole teams worth just with that one sticker! collecting the whole album was the fun of it!

I know peoples views on the amount of money the cars cost, the amount of time they have to put in, and it is ridiculous, if PD had used proper currency (GBP or Dollars) and gave the cars their real value and also gave us money corresponding to the events, i.e difficulty, then people may have not gone to such extreme measures to get these cars. also the XP part of the game is seriously flawed, its way to much getting to another level (someone has likening it to FF which it is in a way).

I really enjoyed GT and GT2, it was fun racing, making money and buying the cars I really wanted.

GT5 as many people have said is a bit of a chore, but saying that the game cost me £40 ($60), and theres loads to do so I will be playing it for ages, saving money up to get the cars I want, it will take time I know, but the satisfaction getting that final car is immense, just think how you felt when you leveled up in cod to get that acr!

Its too late now but I think PD should have re-evalulated the XP thing and the cost of cars and maybe this would have made it more enjoyable, maybe the difficultly, (if you play on expert you get more money/more XP than someone on easy)

I don't know, just my two cents (as you americans say!)

Merry Christmas!

I agree, it's the same as counterfeit money in real life, it just drives the value of everything down when everyone can get expensive cars for free.

I won't trade anything for something I suspect is a birthday car, not since I got a Ford Mk.IV from someone who was like, level 10 or something; How can a level 10 have possibly made 20,000,000 to buy one? You can't win one until much later in the game (if you even can at all).

However I think that once people who aren't big enough fans of GT to be playing after February have all moved on, I think the people that are left will start being sensible with their trades, and things may return to normal.

I don't think it is too late for PD to re-evaluate the XP system, I mean I'm not naïve enough to believe that KY really is looking into all the things he tweeted about (in another thread) but I do get the impression that GT5 is quite modular, if only from the updates they've put in recently. I don't think it's impossible that they could put some more normal or special events across all the levels to give long-term players more choice of how they grind, or rebalance the XP rewards of existing events. Maybe they could even extend the level cap but rethink the amount of XP it takes to progress.

The thing I don't get about people who use the birthday exploit is they usually adopt the attitude of 'it's my game, I'll play it how I want and it doesn't affect you!', except it really does when I get offered a 20,000,000cr car for one that cost me 40,000. It ruins the whole point of trading.

Edit: I was going to create this exact thread yesterday but couldn't figure out where it belonged...

exactly, it took me ages to get 383,000 to get my ferrari, when someone else played it for about an hour and managed to get a 20,000,000 car, as well as a p4, mark IV,GT40, P400 etc.

I don't think it is too late for PD to re-evaluate the XP system

what I meant is were all level 19-30 now so its a bit late, but saying that its going to take ages to get to 40 so I guess they can limit that...

I agree completelly... about the birthday glitch. It stinks and people who do it stinks too. =/

Hi can I just point out that trading doesn't actually exist in Gt despite it being a named feature. Trading implies 2 way traffic. In gt all you can do is gift. Even Pokemon has a better mechanism that allows genuine 2 way trades not simple gifts.

PD should have implemented a auction house in the game, in that way we could trade cars in a more "realistic" way. To get a certain car, all you need to do is check the auction house every time, and glitch cars just to sell them for cash just to buy certain cars you can trade. In a trading point of view, money doesn't really matter here, its the cars you have that will make the person trade his car or not.

its like we live in the past, that you must trade stuff to get other stuff. PD did a mistake underestimating the power of free entrepreneurship.

At least in forza you could buy stuff with money from other people in the cyber world.

Yup, and T10 were the ones that devalued the 20m P4 by gifting it to VIP's.
I had a couple in that game too lol. As I remember, it was crap.

It's definitely ruined the marketplace... which never officially existed anyway considering that's not what a "gift" actually is. Users created it, users killed it.

No legitimate transactions? REALLY? You whiners can trade amongst each other. Problem solved.

You sir are ignorant, PD did not make this game for little kiddies to cheat there way through it.

I was genuinely looking forward to trading cars on here and now its pointless as little kiddies are offering there exploited 20mill credit cars for anything nice i'd want to trade for.

That's like saying guns kill people. People kill people, and people killed the market.

Am I the only one who didn't do the Birthday Glitch? Personally, I waited way too long to try and finish this game in a weekend. I want it to last for a long, long, time. I guess the extra time in the drivers seat for Cr. and Exp. doesn't really bother me, it gives me a chance to reacquaint myself with my wheel and GT as a whole.

I do understand what you are saying though. After I got my first truck and won the series, truck's became regularly available in the used car lot. I started buying them when ever I saw them, just so I can gift them to others still needing a truck. Since the exploit of the birthday glitch, I figured that my efforts were wasted and why even bother.

Cars in forza had no value at all, because you could get 600 milion just by manipulation the save game or buy credits online. The good part was, that you could have good races and cruises with all different cars. In PD even if you want to race a special car, in some cases it's imposible because the prices are to high, and it's hard to find in in the used car lot. Thats why a auction house would fit right in, in that way the cars would be more accessable and still hold their value. Money would actually mean something in this game.

Then we must understand the fact, that this is just a game, a virtual life, as soon as the savegame will be unlocked, people will do things to manipulate the credits and get hold of rare cars. I don't mind really, if some one could offer me a rare car i would buy/get it, and i don't really care if the car is bought in a "legal" way or glitched.

PD have failed in the aspect of realism because the prices aren't realistic, and in real life if you have money you can buy what ever you want from dealers or private persons = auction houses.

People as we speak exploit the loopholes in the system, the only difference is that they use the birthday exploit just to get cars they can sell/trade :) And that is as bad as manipulating the savegame to ger 500 milion credits.`

Exploitation is a part of life, you don't like it, dont use it.

you guys need to get a life, its a video game! ruined the "marketplace"? ITS A GAME!!! What game out there doesn't have cheats? I have never played one that doesn't. you can choose not to use it if you don't want. and you don't have to trade your 40,000 credit car for a P4 if you don't want to!

but it should make you happy to know that people like me spent an hour last night gifting birthday cars just to find out the system stole them all, LOL. Guess I should have been having fun racing instead of trying to get all the cars I wanted that way ;-)

Mmm, we're little kiddies, yet look at your avatar...

Anyway, the point remains. You self-righteous whiners can trade amongst yourselves. Simple.

YES THEY DID, they did make this game for "little kiddies" they have sold 5+ million copies, there are not 5 million hard core racing game fans out there, 80% of them if not more are your "little kiddies".

Companies exist to make a profit, sure a person or two in the company might want to keep the "purity" if such a thing exists in games, but as a company they want to make money, and they have to appeal to everyone, and cheats appeal to the masses...

It is clear that PD missed a very basic function in the game, and that is a functioning auction house. Really, a auction house would be perfect, since some of the cars are really hard to get.

Nope, i'm another non exploit user, I waited long enough for this game to ruin it for myself or others.

GT games have always been about grinding and your rewards are getting to drive some nice expensive cars you earned. We waited 5+ years for it and I hoped for a game that you could show off your progress through the social network etc, but now everyone has done this exploit its meaningless.

I too have purchased some rare cars that dont appeal to me as i thought maybe of use to trade with but they cant compete with 20mill Cr cars.

Really, if GT is about grinding, then something is wrong, the game is suposed to be fun actually, not boring. The majority of people dont like grinding, and it is very clear that people want to have fun with all different cars, and they want money so they can be satisfied. If you dont like trading or shady business, why are you in this thread?

The reward, or the fun part, is when you can show all your cool cars and drive online with your friends. Solo racing is nothing for me, and i hope PD will realize that in the future.

yes but rewards and cash prizes were better in the past, its too much grinding now, they wanted to make the game last longer so they made grinding worse! horrible idea. I really don't have the time to race the same track 10 times just to buy a $50K car that I want. If I didn't have a job, wife, or kids and was rich with no life, sure I could play this game for 6 hours a day and grind and do it how it was "intended" LOL

PD cheated us, so we are cheating them right back!

Avatar was a joke back in the day when i was part of the honda fanclub genius.

Self righteous? Do you even know the meaning? All i have done is express my opinion that the birthday glitch has ruined the marketplace...

Ruin the game for yourself all you want but to flood the place with expensive cars you could only have cheated to acquire.

YES THEY DID, they did make this game for "little kiddies" they have sold 5+ million copies, there are not 5 million hard core racing game fans out there, 80% of them if not more are your "little kiddies".

You have obviously no idea what you are talking about, the target market is certainly not kids, which is actually got nothing to do with my point.

On the XBOX 360 any known exploiters get banned as they ruin games for other people for not playing the way the game is intended.

Are you seriously saying PD made this game for people to cheat?

Companies exist to make a profit, sure a person or two in the company might want to keep the "purity" if such a thing exists in games, but as a company they want to make money, and they have to appeal to everyone, and cheats appeal to the masses...

I'm not even going to respond to this as its utter junk

when this exploit came out, I was curious and BD'd some hours and received a couple of the well known race cars. Then I realized that this is not right (for me). Its to easy. I want to play the game right. I used race cars at "Lvl 14 races" to avoid buying expensive racers. But after some races I got a strange feeling and felt wrong. At the moment Im selling all my gifts and re-race everything again.

The whole problem is the reward/XP system, PD need to patch this. Excessive grinding will ruin the game, as well as the BD exploit does. Realistic car prices and realistic goals/achievements for "normal" people which have a job and dont want to farm like a chinese WoW slave. Atm, if you wanna make business in Trade-Market, you need to accept the exploits and deal with it. sad but true.

An auction house (among friends) would be a nice addition. I only say, "among friends" because I would rather see the PSN used for better online game play and not waste network resources on a worldwide trading community arena. Trading cars where PD or PSN rather, would act as a escrow holder of the goods until both parties agree to the terms of the trade would also be nice.

If you think of the original intention of the Market place, it was designed to trade cars among 'friends', people you trust, people you know. It wasn't designed to be PD's version of ebay. It wasn't designed to be your personal auto store front.

Clearly the Marketplace is an important part to progressing through the game, due to the lack of generosity of cars in the used car lot, winnings, and dealership vehicle availability. PD wants you to utilize the Market Place to acquire cars you need to keep going. There are other ways, of course, to acquire what you need, but the path isn't as linear as it has been in past GT series releases.

The reward, or the fun part, is when you can show all your cool cars and drive online with your friends. Solo racing is nothing for me, and i hope PD will realize that in the future.

Well I wouldn't say that is the case for all of us, so I hope PD doesn't "realize that in the future". I am 32, have a wife and kids, none of my friends play this game (more into fps and sports games), so I play it solo and have since GT3. I love the solo modes, just wish they had more of a career or through time feel to them. I realize online racing is huge for younger people or people who have friends who all play the same games, but don't say everyone just wants online play.

that said I still like to collect cars and colors for my garage and take different cars onto the track to race solo, which is why I use the cheat, so I can get the cars in my garage for my collection, I don't give a rats ass what other people think of it, thats why I bought the game and I am happy I don't have to grind to get the cars now.

And the Market place is not DEAD, I won't just give away a Race Car if I used the birthday clitch, I still want a decent car in return otherwise its not worth my time to even "trade" it, and there isn't technically trading in this game anyway, trading would be if PD held your car in cyberspace until the other member sent their car and then they would exchange them to both after you both click agree or something to finalize it. and if the other party never sends a car you get yours back... But seen as thousands of cars have already been lost in cyberspace I doubt they can handle that with their servers.

Every GT has been, the fun part is the reward after it.

To be honest I dont find this game hard or difficult to get some great cars, I have 230 cars and 4mill credits right now and I still have a lot to get through.

I'm not looking just to complete the game and move on.

If you dont like trading or shady business, why are you in this thread?

I do like trading and want to trade but its poinless with all the exploited cars on offer.

Cant you see my want for a decent trading system, thats why i'm involved in this thread.

The reward, or the fun part, is when you can show all your cool cars and drive online with your friends. Solo racing is nothing for me, and i hope PD will realize that in the future.

All those cool cars you never earned.

Your mates can do exact same then there is no appeal right?

yes but rewards and cash prizes were better in the past, its too much grinding now, they wanted to make the game last longer so they made grinding worse! horrible idea. PD cheated us, so we are cheating them right back!

I can actually agree with some of this (prize cars are terrible) but still no reason to cheat or use an exploit.

My thoughts exactly. Very well said, thank you!

Considering how crazy the grinding is in this game, I can see why people do the birthday glitch. I do not support it, but...

I agree, I've done 3 or 4 trades on here though and I have not done the birthday glitch once. It's not worth the time to cheat the system and I like to try and stay honest. I agree seeing some people with cars that are way out of their lvl, but that just gives us MORE people trying to trade good cars so I don't see a problem with it.
