Bathory rock, I should have mentioned that I allready listen to them allready too :). Nordland 1 is an utter classic imo. Burzum, heard alot of their stuff, not a fan tbh, and I have problems with the guy's ummm well the fact is he's a total facist. I'll give the other stuff a go though, thanks. :)

Has anyone ever heard of Skindred? I like there sound, it's a mixture of Reggae and Metal.
my favorite metal bands are:

Metallica
Pantera
Fear Factory
Lamb of God
Static-X
Slipknot
Black Sabbath

Recently I've been getting in to black metal, some of it is damn firking awesome. I need recemendations of bands like Immortal (in terms of sound, think the abum At The Heart Of Winter, one of the best albums I've heard for ages) and Arcturus (Aspera Hiems Symfonia style). Please don't even mention crap like Dimmu or COF. The more I listen to this stuff, the more I love it. It has a depth which most metal just doesn't have.

Also should mention Entombed, what an ass kicking band.
"At The Heart Of Winter" is a great album! I have to admit I am suprised. Try "Damned In Black" as well. Very much alike, although not as good imo.
(Btw, I've seen Immortal live and I can tell you that it's an awesome show. It's incredible what just 3 guys can do).

As for Arcturus, well, "La Masquerade Infernale" is still one of my all time favourite albuns. It's not Black Metal as you know it, but it's a masterpiece. Give it a try.

I'll recommend you Anorexia Nervosa - "New Obscurantis Order" (very intense) and Solefald - "Neonism". Solefald is another band that, like Arcturus, evoluted from Black Metal and now play "Weird" Metal. Neonism is out of this world...

Sons Of Northern Darkness by Immortal is a great album too, quite similar to At the Heart of Winter. I've also allready got that arcturus album, and the The Sham Mirrors.

Exactly. They became too repetitive, no doubt about it. Still, it was a shame they split.

If you're interested, here's just a few more bands (albums) I recommend:

Dark Funeral (Vobiscum Satanas)
Diabolical Masquerade (any)
Abyssos (Fhinsthanian Nightbreed)
Dissection (Storm Of The Light's Bane)
Emperor (Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk)
Limbonic Art (In Abhorrence Dementia)
Old Man's Child (The Pagan Prosperity)
Sacramentum (Far Away From The Sun)
Satyricon (from Nemesis divina onwards)
Borknagar (The Archaic Course)

Hell yes, SKindred are pretty awesome. Not sure they are metal though. Really cool though.

I've wanted an album by them for a while, for some reason. I'm not that much into Black Metal, but I hear they aren't a bad band.

You seem to know your Black Metal. Although that's a little obvious from your Username. :P 👍

I guess those albums do sound the similar, but that's no bad thing, Immortal have a great drive and energy in their music, fast and brutal. I bloody love it. Thanks for the recemendations btw :)

I see what you mean. I like it too and maybe I'm not making much sense, but I think three of the same is too much.

As I've said once in this thread, I am (or was) more into Swedish Death Metal. That was my thing and to be honest I never was much into Black Metal, although a few bands definitely caught my attention.

Oh, and don't mention my username... :ouch:
It's old (it has more than 6 years), it's lame and it reflects too well my lack of imagination...

I've heard bits and pieces from it, and I must say, it's better than I expected from a band as old as these guys trying to make a comeback. It's definitely not their best work, but it's quite good it seems. I'll have to get it sometime.

I'm a lover of Swedish Death Metal, I must say. I've never really gotten into Black Metal, and that's because of a number of reasons. For one, most Black Metal is boring to me. Some of it can be talented with each individual musician, but all in all, it's mostly very boring and poorly constructed. Most of it has crappy production, meaning that the vocals and music mix in way too much. Most Black Metal vocals are annoyingly high-pitched for my liking. Take Gorgoroth for example. 'Nuff said.

Also, the "rituals" and what-not surrounding Black Metal is too weird for me. Take Mayhem as a perfect example. They throw real raw flesh at their fans, and make them devour it in front of them. They cut themselves open on-stage, which is kind of cool in some ways, but really weird and stupid.

Actually, I think it's quite imaginative. Mask instead of Masquerade ... I like it.

My favorite metal band BY FAR is Judas Priest, followed closely by Iron Maiden. Anyone hear Priest's new album yet? It's frigging AWESOME.

I have heard the single off it. Pretty awesome from the single.

I understand your point and agree with you.

There were a lot of really poor, untalented and uninspiring bands in the Black Metal scene in the mid 90's and even more stupid people involved in it.

The thing is, there were also some good bands and artists but they were either "hidden" behind that stupid "evil" attitude and crappy production sound or were just too young to reveal themselves.

So, once things settled, these bands started to grow and some very good albums were made.

Nowadays I have no idea how the Black Metal scene is.

Hello, people. Man, I took a 5-6 month break from GTPLANET.

Anyways, I heard of a Death Metal band named Cannibal Corpse. The band is known for its gore-obsessed lyrics and imagery. They have gained quite a notorious reputation.

Cannibal Corpse are a great band. Shame Chris left the band, I like him more than George/Corpsegrinder, or whoever the hell he is. Get "Wretched Spawn". It's probably my favourite of the bunch.

And yes, they are known for their lyrics and imagery. They are actually banned from playing songs from certain albums in some states in the US, because of the lyrical content and song titles. Also, some albums are banned from being sold in some stores because of the graphics on the cover of the albums.

Either way, good to see you back.

The Jester Race from In Flames is pretty good. I'll probably end up liking it more than the last one they made.

Both Shannon and I are bleeding the Melodic Death genre dry. I, along with Shannon, have pretty much fell in love with this genre.

So far, the benchmark is Amon Amarth ... particularly Versus The World. Nothing has come that close really, except maybe older Soilwork, or possibly this Dark Tranquillity album I'm getting.

What DT album are you getting? "The Gallery"?

Anyway, Swedish Metal rules. :D

Motorhead are probably my favourite out of all Heavy Metal bands. Ace Of Spades is the way to go. 👍

Character, Haven and Damage Done, and I'm currently getting The Gallery (which is the Dark Tranquillity album I've wanted all along).

My favorite In Flames album.
Agreed.

Swedish Death Metal, Gothenburg and Melodic Death Metal. 👍 👍 👍

i listen to a LOT of metal

Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Angra, Altaria, Manowar, Hammerfall, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Concerto Moon, Human Fortress, Black Majesty, Edguy, Iced Earth, Rhapsody, Luca Turilli+++

Talking about Swedish Metal, I just got my copy of Katatonia's "The Black Sessions". :D
It's a 3 disc set, including a live DVD. 👍

I just love Katatonia. It's a band I've been closely following since "Dance Of December Souls". They sound very different now, but they have never let me down, always going in the right direction and sounding better with each album.

Check them out, I say.

Oh, and Matt: messing with other people's usernames is NOT funny and I almost failed to see it was me you were quoting. Go listen to some Opeth instead... :P

A Progressive/Symphonic Metal fan, eh?

I've listened many times to Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, etc. because of my brother. It's not my cup of tea but sometimes it feels great to sing along to some of their songs. ;)
And of course, no one can deny the talent behind all those bands.
