Oh, and Matt: messing with other people's usernames is NOT funny and I almost failed to see it was me you were quoting. Go listen to some Opeth instead...
I did what now?

Katatonia, though? Didn't picture you as a Doom fan. At least they aren't completely Doom, though. Sometimes they touch Death, but still.

i listen to a LOT of metal

Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Angra, Altaria, Manowar, Hammerfall, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Concerto Moon, Human Fortress, Black Majesty, Edguy, Iced Earth, Rhapsody, Luca Turilli+++
Into Power and Prog Metal, eh? A few very talented bands on that list, too. Occasionally I delve into a few of those bands, and I also repect some of the talent in those bands. Mike Portnoy is a very excellent drummer.

Hum. I liked the "Mr." part...

Anyway, I'm not a Doom fan. Katatonia may used to be a mix of Doom, Death and Black but they're very different. They just use clean voices now, for example.
I think they created a sound of their own, which I can't define.
Give "Viva Emptiness" a try. Really.

I got the new Petrucci´s album yesterday by the way. It´s called Suspended Animation, really good. 👍

The sad thing about that band is that, in my opinion, they have really wasted their talent. They haven't produced much with Dream Theater, and even though I'm not a big Prog fan, I can say I'm disappointed that they haven't produced anything class. This is my opinion, though, but I just know a lot of people here are going to be weilding pitchforks at my front door-step within the next 24 hours.

Still, all talented musicians.

Have you heard their Train of Thought album?

It's clearly their heaviest (and greatest IMO) album to date, and really showcases each members' skill of their instrument. "This Dying Soul" and "Honor Thy Father" confirm that Mike Portnoy is one of the greatest drummers ever, and Petrucci really lets loose and shows his shredding abilities on the album (especially in the 11 minute monster of an instrumnetal, "Stream of Consciousness"). 👍

Thankfully, they don't have as much wankery on the keyboards on this album. Personally, I think that bringing in a keyboard interlude half way through a blazing solo kills the song. :irked:

I might just have to go listen to this album again now...

Has anybody heard Orphaned Land? They're pretty damn cool. They fuse oriental/middle eastern melodies with heavy metal and it works surprisingly well. Definately worth checking out 👍 My only complaint, if any, is that they're a bit too religious at times.

I noticed that they started off great with Images and Words, but then they didn't come out with anything better. Train of Thought is as close as they come to that one. While I like the album, it kind of reminds me of Metallica too much.

Images and Words is my favorite, but I like the other ones I have very much also. A Change of Seasons is my favorite DT song, and I like the live covers on that album.

Falling Into Infinity is a pretty good album too.

Sure thing! I love Orphaned Land! It's a band like no other (how many bands from Israel would you know anyway?).

I thought Mabool would never come out (they didn't launch an album in 8 years...) but it did in 2004 and it's very good.
The album Sahara - which also includes the The Beloved's Cry demo - is a part of my youth... It brings back very good memories (and is making me feel very old right now)... :)
El Norra Alila is probably my favourite, though.

Anyway, I only know a handfull of people who likes Orphaned Land. It's great and also a surprise to see someone else. 👍

I only found out about the band about a week ago and even that was pure fluke. I was doing some research on some death metal bands and came across these guys. Either way, fluke or not, the band is damn amazing and i'm very glad I found out about them.

Anyways, i'll give a shot to those songs you reccomended 👍

YES! someone finally likes Sonata Arctica! I love this band. really awesome. I have Reckoning Night. I really like "Don't Say A Word" I listen to it daily. Anyone got the new limited edition "End Of Heartache"? Is it worth it to buy it if I already have "End Of Heartache"? And I also would like to see if the new Judas Preist album is any good. I was very tempted to pick them both up. And I think Cradle Of Filth's "Nymphetamine" was released in a limited edition.

The new Judas Priest album is good. I really enjoyed it, and it's a very surprising good comeback from a band as old as Priest. Usually bands around that age that make comebacks often bum out and lose a bit of respect. Priest still know how to play. 👍

Agreed, the new album has the same sound as feel as the old ones. It's pretty damn good 👍

Dude, I have to get the album, but I'll have to wait, i'm some-what broke right now. Just like when I bought my new Crüe album, "Red White and Crüe", when it came out on Jan. 25, I had to wait until Feb. 4, to buy, but at least it was worth the wait.

JUDAS PRIEST Rules!

Has anyone heard of the Northwest Death Fest? Its a concert here in the Northwest featuring mainly death metal, this year is Cannibal Corpse, Sodus (spelling?), and Incantation (spelling?).

Those are not songs, they're albums.
I'm assuming you have Mabool, so try El Norra Alila and Sahara as well. 👍

I've been stuck in a NWOBM mood lately, and just happened across the band Iron Savior. If you enjoy Priest, you'll enjoy this one as well. Dragonforce is also another one that comes close to the Iron Maiden / Judas Priest sound.

I do have to say that Priests new album is a far cry better than Red, White and Crue. Ugh. 37 songs and only 3 are new?

I've tried hunting everywhere to find an album by Blind Guardian, but have had no luck. Perhaps 5 years ago I downloaded 15 or so of their songs from MP3.com (back when it was free and legal). If anyone locates them somewhere can they drop me a PM?

I've got their discography... as with the entire collections of most of the musicians in my playlist 👍

The point of that was, Cory? And why isn't Fear Factory real metal?

This coming from someone who listens to Atreyu! :P

Atreyu isn't that bad. They are pretty good. But not the best. And Fear Factory is True metal.

That´s strange, it´s pretty easy to find Blind Guardian albums in my town, any cds store has it. And it ain´t a really big town.

Anyway, I´m thinking about getting their latest DVD, it´s said to be pretty good.

I hope you weren't referring to Iron Savior as NWOBHM? They're a German band, that started way after the NWOBHM movement. :P

Both are Power Metal, although Iron Savior are half Speed Metal really. Iron Savior are a fairly good band, I don't mind them. Power Metal, on the other hand, is not my cup of tea. It's just something about the vocals that I can't stand. For me, only Iron Maiden could pull that off. :indiff:

Have you tried Amazon.com? I searched Blind Guardian and came up with this.

There's also eBay, although Amazon would probaby be a bit easier. This is from an eBay search for Blind Guardian.

Nice! Looks like I'm off to spend cash at amazon now!

Yes, I was reffering to Iron Savior as part of NWOBHW. Some sites classify them as such, others don't. I'm just going on the info I had, which wouldn't suprise me as being wrong info.

Thanks for the pointers on finding Blind Guardian!

anyone like NormaJean? I heard their single last night on Headbangers Ball and they sound really good. Antoher cool one was All That Remains. I will probably end up getting All That Remains new album. Anyone else like them?

All That Remains are awesome. I have both their albums — Behind Solice And Solitude and This Darkened Heart (newest). 👍

Haven't heard anything by NormaJean though.
