The Metal ThreadMusic

They aren't my list of favorites, just recommending some stuff. Origin is close to Grindcore, although their music is structured in Death Metal style. They're fast and heavy.

Some other good Thrash: Overkill, Sauron, Sodom, Exodus or maybe even Exhorder, as they're between Thrash and Death. Check those out. Worth your while. 👍

I'm over Slayer nowadays. Much like Metallica, every time I listen to them now, they seem plain and dull. It's most likely because I listened to them so much, and the fact that I've gotten a lot heavier and faster. They're also quite commercial, so they cater to the tastes of their time period and the masses of fans.

Are all the songs on the VRock soundtrack considered Metal?
Not really.
Judas Priest is Metal
Motley Crue is Glam Rock
Megadeth is Thrash Metal
Love Fist was never a real band, so I don't know
Autograph is Glam Rock
Twisted Sister is Glam Rock
Ozzy is Metal
Anthrax is Thrash Metal
Iron Maiden is NWOBHM
Slayer is Thrash Metal
Tesla, I'm not sure, I think they are Glam Rock
David Lee Roth is Glam Rock

For me, all the songs rule.

Anyone like Mushroomhead? I cant stop listening to XIII 👍.
I do. Kickarse stuff. 👍

Iron Maiden is NWOBHM
Well, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal isn't really a genre. It's more so just a generalization of all the british heavy metal bands that burst into the music scene during the '70s and '80s.

Iron Maiden are heavy metal.

Expanding on some (I can't help myself), I'll list all of the Metal bands on V-Rock:
  • Judas Priest -- Heavy Metal, later Speed Metal.
  • Megadeth -- Thrash, later Speed Metal.
  • Love Fist -- Apparantly Heavy Metal.
  • Twisted Sister -- Heavy Metal.
  • Ozzy Osbourne -- Heavy Metal.
  • Anthrax -- Thrash, later Groove Metal.
  • Iron Maiden -- Heavy Metal.
  • Slayer -- Thrash.

As for the rest:
  • Motley Crue -- Hard Rock (I hate Glam Rock as a genre).
  • Autograph -- Rock (I have to decide that Rock is a genre, as it is the only possible categorisation for some bands).
  • Tesla -- Hard Rock.
  • David Lee Roth -- Pop-Rock?
  • Loverboy -- Pop-Rock.
    [*]The Cult -- Rock.

Was there more than this?
Silverzone
System Of A Down
Killswitch
Atreyu
Lacuna Coil
Deftones
Korn
Mudvayne
and many others.

what kind of metal would Slipknot be?
Slipknot are Nu Metal.

Also, Killswitch Engage and Atreyu are Emo Metal (ugh). Personally, I'd rather they be called Nu Metal and be done with it, but you know...

Glam Rock is as usefull as NWOBHM. It discribes a certain type of music in the (70s and) 80s that was, IMO, suck.

I consider Iron Maiden to be power metal, is that valid?

yeah, I like a bit of emo metal, but not much. Atreyu nd Killswitch as far as i go. If I wanna listen to emo, I put in Futures. hmmm, this is a weird one. I think saliva would be metal, wouldn't they? like rap metal or something. because they are awesome.I really want to get their new album.

no,

Iron Maiden are heavy metal.

I agree with Shannon on this one. They wouldn't be heavy metal if they came out today, but back then they were, and it sticked.

Personally, that's exactly what I would put them as, but the fact that they came out in the 80's, which was a time when Heavy Metal was one of the only genres of Metal, they couldn't exactly be placed anywhere else. They got the categorisation of Heavy Metal, and they're probably one of the most-known Heavy Metal bands today, so you can't compromise their categorisation.

But I'll agree that it would be their place in today's music. The vocals are the first indication, and most of their songs have many Power Metal qualities in the music.

Saliva are Nu Metal.

My favourite Iron Maiden song is 2 Minutes to Midnight from V-Rock on Vice City. And you also have to love Number of the Beast. Apart from that, I'm not a big Iron Maiden fan.

I have their Greatest Hits album, and that's probably your best bet. I also have their latest, Dance of Death, but I didn't like it at all really. Either way:

Iron Maiden - Edward the Great: The Greatest Hits.

Iron Maiden -- I have their debut album (Self Entitled), The Number of The Beast and Powerslave. Of the 3, I prefer their debut myself. I still can't get the riff of "Prowler" out of my head. 👍

Dude, you forgot Quiet Riot, they were on V-Rock Radio station, although Event Horizon was refering to the cd.

IMO Quiet Riot is Glam Rock

EDIT: [ About the Glam-Rock thing.] I love saying Glam Rock or Hair Band better than Hard Rock.

I have some of David Lee Roth's album [cassettes]. A song or two sound like pop, but most of it sounds like Rock.

Glam Rock and Hair Metal aren't as focused on the music, they're more on the looks of the band, which I personally think defies the point of categorising and genre-ising music.

Quiet Riot = Heavy Metal.

Can anyone recommend some good Iron Maiden songs or albums?

My top 5 Maiden Songs are: Wasted Years, The Number of The Beast, Hallowed be Thy Name, Run To The Hills and Fear Of The Dark.

But most of their songs are great, you should try some albums to see what you like.

Heh, I've given a listen to Lamb of God, and what can I say? They ****ing kick so much ass.

I "got" their "Ashes Of the Wake" Album. Damn good, I must say. Any other album suggestions for them?

BTW, what are they considered?

I like Lamb of God. I think they're a very good, talented band which gets overshadowed by a lot of Metalheads simply because they're becoming well-known. Whilst a lot of the time, becoming well-known does mean a decline in their sound, and usually means they sell out to the "MTV sound", I don't think it applies to Lamb of God.

I have two of their albums. New American Gospel is the other one I have, and I like that one a lot, too.

By the way, they are considered Groove Death Metal. Another one-off genre. :indiff:

Another metalhead. 👍

Recently I've been getting in to black metal, some of it is damn firking awesome. I need recemendations of bands like Immortal (in terms of sound, think the abum At The Heart Of Winter, one of the best albums I've heard for ages) and Arcturus (Aspera Hiems Symfonia style). Please don't even mention crap like Dimmu or COF. The more I listen to this stuff, the more I love it. It has a depth which most metal just doesn't have.

Also should mention Entombed, what an ass kicking band.

Impaled Nazarene -- My personal favourite Black Metal band.
1349 -- Not the typical view of Black Metal. Nice raw speed.
Bathory -- One of the most notable Black Metal bands around. One of the forefathors of traditional Black Metal.
Mayhem -- Very controversial Black Metal band. Very controversial.
Emperor -- Another famous Black Metal band. A fairly norma, Black Metal sounding band.
Burzum -- A dark Black Metal band, started out as a primitive Black Metal band with a raw sound. Currently not in action as the sole member of the band murdered a member from Mayhem, and is serving a 21-year jail sentence.
Venom -- One of the biggest influences on the Black Metal scene.
Zyklon -- Death/Black Metal. Thought I'd give them a mention.

There are many, many more bands I could prescribe, but tell me how those go and if you want some more suggestions, I'll be glad to give them to you.
