“The most complete car encyclopedia” database:
The database was completed early in 2013, after a long process, started in 1991, with a continuous daily work, totaling more than 50.000 hours.
Since 2013, I have started publishing “The most complete car encyclopedia” as a book series, but after just a few volumes, the feedback received pushed me into transforming it into a subscription website, which is a lot cheaper for the car enthusiasts and easier to upgrade.
Each of the 20.000 car brand has it’s information text and each of the 100.000 car models have besides a complete gallery an information text and car specifications
Structure:
BRANDS:
All the brands are sorted in alphabetical order, starting from A to Z.
Notes:
-the car encyclopedia refers to car brands not to car manufacturers, as the models of a car brands can be manufactured by different car companies.
-the car encyclopedia includes both car manufacturers or self-built cars
-car replicas are included only if the cars were built and sold using a brand or model name different from the one of the original model
-cars build by modifying a series production car, are listed only if they have a proper brand and model name and the design transformation made them recognizable as a new car. Otherwise they are listed in tuner car section.
-mock-ups, designs , military and specialty vehicles (like golf carts, sightseeing buses, funeral vehicles) are not included
-three-wheelers and quads are included only if they have a steering wheel or a steering mechanism different from the one of the motorcycles
-generally, the brands country refers to the country where it’s headquarter is located
-many times, a car brand changed it’s name several times during the history. Each name is listed as a separate brand. However, when a car brand changes it’s company name or it’s owner, while the brand name remains unchanged, the brand has continuity and is listed as a single one.\
-the only situation when two brand names are listed together is when two brand names are used for virtually the same brand, with exactly the same model lineup or chronology and the company used one name for the domestic market while the other was used for export market, as in : VAAZ/Lada; Zastava /Yugo
MODELS:
Inside each brand, the models are structured in 5 different categories:
1. series production models
(Structured in chronological order. Each generation of a model is presented separately)
- these are the models built in large, medium or small series or as a self-built cars, and refers to the cars that were commercially available
- a car model is listed to all the brands that it was sold under, no matter who manufactured the model. There are numerous cases when the same model was sold under many different brands.(Example: Saab 9-2x is a rebaged Subaru Impreza)
-many times the models have different names in different markets. In the model list, the name of the home or main market is listed. All the other names are listed inside the model presentation with the country or geographical area mentioned.
- some model names are used by the same car brands for totally different cars. For example the US market Honda Accord is a totally different model from the EU-Spec or Japan-Spec Honda Accord. For the models sold in the home market there is no country or geographical area listed. For the models that are not sold in the home (or main) market of the brand, the country or geographical area is listed. (Example: Acura EL (Canada) )
- sometimes a model is sold in the same from on different markets but through the time they have different evolutions including different facelifts on different markets. In this second scenario they are presented separately.
2. concepts and prototypes
(Structured in chronological order.)
-this section refers to all the concept cars and prototypes, built by car companies, coachbuilders, design studios or third party companies.
3. race cars
(Structured in chronological order. Includes: single-seater racers, like Formula One, Formula 3000, Indy Car, etc)
-this section refers to all the official or semi-official race cars. There are also included some third-party developed race-cars, which were very successful or deserve thir spot in the brand’s history.
-the section includes all types of race cars, based on production models or not.
-in general, each evolution of a race car model, is presented separately, with some exceptions, where important facts in the history imposed it’s description as a whole.
4. coachbuilt models
(Structured in chronological order.)
-this section refers to the cars built by Coachbuilders, which offered special bodies for the series production car or chassis.
5. tuned models

Notes:

According to web designer, it will be ready sometime next week.
Until then i started uploading information on database, so when it will be online the website will have enough information to satisfy the users, hopefully most part of the letter A (1252car brands and few thousand models).
You can see in the photos below: letter A file size; print screen of model list inside a brand, print screen inside a model page and print screen of browsing the photo gallery.
PS: I have made a special request to the web designer. we will see if he can get it done. I have requested to be able to give some promotions to some of the accounts. My intention is to give some bonuses for GTPlanet members. Of course, if GTPlanet agrees.
Until then i started uploading information on database, so when it will be online the website will have enough information to satisfy the users, hopefully most part of the letter A (1252car brands and few thousand models).

Update: letter A 1254 car brands. 1 new 2013 established car brand added today. Adrenealine Motorsports sold the rights for the Murtaya car to another company and now it is produced under another car brand name.
GT Planet members with at least 6 months of activity will receive 3 month bonus when pay for 1 year subscription.

-Website will be online, very soon, within 24 hours, maybe sooner.
-Several tweaks and modifications will be made in the next month but the website and car database will be available as well as the paid accounts.
-when released there will be around 1.000 cars uploaded on the website and more and more will be added daily.
-as we did not find a technical solution, the GTPlanet members with at least 6 months of activity will receive other kind of special offer: for a year subscription (25 USD) they will receive 20% off. This will work manually as i will send 5 USD refund via PAYPAL account.
-for now, until letter A is complete you can choose the brands from the choose category menu. When i will move to letter B, the first page of the car encyclopedia will be changed and you will see all the letters and the brands uploaded listed one under the other n alphabetical order but you can also use the choose category menu.

Alfa-Romeo is not completely uploaded, still misses Coachbuilt, Race and Tuned cars. They will be uploaded in the next two days. Then until 1st of September there will be a pause in uploads for last website modifications. Upload pace will be around 50 to 100 cars per day.
PS: Members with at least 6 months activity on this forum must confirm here their all-car-brands.com account if they pay for a year subscription and wand a 20 % refund.

1264 car brands and few thousand models. Tuners are not counted as tuner cars will go into tuner section of the car manufacturers.
There are more than 20.000 car brands in all the letters.
Around 1.000 cars are already uploaded on website, Uploading will resume again on monday. Hope to upload full letter A until mid October.

Yes. the free sample has only Alfa-Romeo which is less than half uploaded for now, as Race cars (115 models), Coachbuilt (124 models) and tuner cars (uncounted yet) are not uploaded and will be uploaded since monday.
SEE Alfa-Romeo race cars and coachbuilt models in attachment. Tuner cars can't be numbered, they are spread in the tuning folders of each tuning company.
The rest will visible only with a subscription.
Regarding the price it's similar to a traditional car magazine.

The ones that were active, directly from manufacturers. The rest of them, mostly from official and semi-official sources. I have invested around 50.000 hours in this project as i have worked daily since 1991, weekends included.

It's really simple.
This project consumes all my time.
If i would have a regular job i would not be able to do this.
I have to work at least 8 to 10 hours a day to fulfill this project within few years, not to mention the 50.000 hours invested before.
I have no intention to get rich, my intention is to be self-employed so i can finish this project. My hobby is my work and my work is my hobby.
It's like having your own car magazine and i strongly believe there is none in this niche.
Not to mention the costs of the server space, which will get higher by each month that passes....

Finished the Alfa-Romeo Free Sample: with a total of 433 models (except tuner cars of course which will fit in later on)

45 minutes video tour of few hundred brands and their models. I didn't entered in all the model pages, as it took quite a lot of time, just to reach somewhere to last part of AL brands. Software used had it's limits...

Thank you very much for your kind words. These kind of words always gave me energy to work more and more on the project.
You will already find inside few thousand models and i hope to finish uploading letter A, really soon.
