The Muse ThreadMusic

I will not say anything until the 8th because I do not want to listen to the album until its released in the States. However, The Handler is not my favorite of the singles but with the negatives out of the way, The first single of the "good" half of the album (Good in the context of the story that Matt is trying to tell) felt like musically it belonged on the "evil" side whereas Mercy musically felt like it belonged on the "good" but I think it is a good track lyrically but I want to here it in context with the rest of the story on the album

With more listens in, it's happening what I had hoped for, and I'm starting to sloooowwwwwly dig it. It's still not a good album in it's own way, but it now has a much better flow than the first few listens. And the standout track really stands out. Like Cydonia in Black Holes.

Reapers has been playing on SiriusXM's Octane channel. I really like the rhythm it has to it, along with the little guitar riff in there.

amazing album = Absolution. This one, bleh at best.
I would say it's their best. Since then my interest in them has slowly gone downhill. Back then it was hard to find a bad song from them, and whatever they had back then, I would say they are slowly losing it. They still put on a good show, but so far I feel like every album has been a step down since that generation. The band is aging, though. They've been around the block, and have done great for themselves and are in no way doing "bad", but after so long I'm sure its hard.

You are absolutely spot on in everything. Absolution is by not far their best album, very very very closely followed by Simmetry, those two don't have a single bad song in them and their flow as albums is basically perfect. Then they started going electropoprock stuff in Black Holes and everything went to hell, at least for me and a bunchload of people who say exactly the same.

In this new one they tried to return to those roots, but I think they failed. I understand they tried to change the direction of their music from Black Holes on as an evolution of their sound, but alas, if you're gonna change your music you can't expect to please everyone.

And yes, they are getting old, but I don't think they're tired.

I think its not their best album but it is one of their best.(Origin of Symmetry is IMO) The album flows as does the story it is trying to tell. Almost all of the released single were from the "Dark" side of the album so I knew what to expect from the songs individually but I was curious how they would flow together, and much to my sarcastic surprised face, they did! The transitions worked and when I first heard Drill Sargent in the Psycho lyric video, I was surprised and initially confused but hearing it with the rest of the album, it needs to be there. My personal favorite song that was not released as a single is Revolt, its got a Queen vibe to it (Not the same Queen vibe as Survival) and it is probably one of their better deep tracks in years. The Globalist is what I think is this albums "Exogenesis" where its an Epic that is underrated but it will be one of those songs where you look back and realize how good it really is.

Matt has said in an interview that they want to make this album into a musical, because of the story that it tells could work great in that format. I hope this does come to fruition but also they would include some songs from other albums that could work (Madness, Uprising and Hysteria all could work in context)

I think this is a nod to the Muse of old but with a peek into what could be in the future. 8.5/10

IMO, The Handler is the best on the album. The chorus sounds like a slowed down version of Stockholm Syndrome, and it felt so heavy all through out. I loved it. Defector for me being a close 2nd. It's so simple, yet so good. The Globalist didn't sound very "Citizen Erased 2", but it was still a masterpiece. My list from most to least favorite:
1.The Handler
2. JFK - Defector
3. The Globalist
4. Reapers
5. Aftermath
6. Mercy
7. Revolt
8. Drill Sergeant - Psycho
9. Drones
10. Dead Inside

Overall, a great album. One of their best yet.

Finally listened to the entire Muse Drones album. As an album it gets an A but as separate songs it gets a C. It has a few great songs such as Handler, Defector and Dead Inside that work well alone but the rest need the entire album to show its true purpose.

Now with the Globalist I think it is genius when played with the rest of the album but I think it might not be as good as a standalone song. I'll have to give the entire album another go soon.

Good news for any Muse fans in England, the Drones tour was announced yesterday, they are doing gigs at Manchester on 08/04/2016 and O2 arena 11th and 12th of April.

I will be buying tickets on Wednesday :D

So, the first gig of the Drones World Tour just ended like 15 minutes ago here in Mexico City, like 3 kilometers from where I live. No, I wasn't there, I'll be there tomorrow in the second of three concerts the band will perform (and an odd appearance at the Corona Capital festival). The new stage is pretty freaking nuts, with people all around them and some amazing visuals. And they played The Globalist, which is, as far as I know, the first time they've played it live.

I just begged my parents to buy me Muse concert Tickets after I just found out that they WILL be in Chicago (Jan 13th). I told them that I wouldn't need anymore presents for the next 25 years :D.
I could potentially buy them myself if I needed to but my money is being saved for the insane amount of food I consume on a daily basis at college.

I'm right now heading outta the door for the concert. Brb gotta go jump and sing.

I'll report back.

Reporting back. Great show. As a spectacle, it destroyed. They seem to be incapable of giving a bad performance, the concert was awesome, and the new stage rocks teh socks.

The setlist though... ):

The one I'm going to in January will be my third Muse concert. I always go with my dad as he is pretty big into Muse as well, and ranked those concerts in the top 5 that he had ever been to. (keep in mind that he's seen Pink Floyd, Queen, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer etc. live on several occasions so Muse holding down two top five spots is pretty high praise.)

5th time for me. The one I went to at the very front row remains as one of the best concerts of my life, if not the best. Alas, that was in 2010 well before they released all the later trash so the setlist was basically perfect, and we had Bellamy right in freaking front of us.

As for you, if I remember correctly you liked the last album so you'll enjoy this one. me, I was like bleh for like 6 songs of the concert. hell, I even sat down for a while.

I like all of Muses albums to be honest. Some are better than others of course, but they have not made an album that I just didn't really care for. Anyways, I can't wait until January. That 360 stage looks intense!

I'm not terribly keen on their setlist from Mexico, if that's any indication of what they'll be playing here in Phoenix in a few days.

Cheap seats it is.

Holy hell, I did not expect that out of him when I first saw him! He really belted that high pitch stuff out surprisingly well.

I'm probably really late to the party, but I've just found out something truly mindblowing. So, I'm sure you all know the song Muscle Museum, correct? Well, it's about when the band was starting out and it was difficult for them to get attention from everyone around them. People always overlooked them and focused on everyone else. So, this song was written. The truly genius part, however, comes in the title. You see, when you go to look for the word 'muse' in the dictionary, you'll find the word above it to be 'muscle' and the word below it to be 'museum', which reflects the theme of the song. So there you have it, the story behind 'Muscle Museum'. They really are true geniuses in this generation of music.

Just got back from the O2 in London, that was a bloody good gig.
