The Muse ThreadMusic

I'm pretty sure there's only one track - The 2nd Law: Unsustainable - that contains dubstep.

Don't mitake dubstep with dance music, like in Madness.

I don't know it doesn't feel like a Muse album to me, I don't see myself listening to it again, but it's good to know people are enjoying it

All Muse albums are so different that you can hardly say 'it doesn't feel like Muse'; they don't really have a signature sound.

So I finally got a chance to hear The 2nd Law in its entirety this week. I'd heard the odd song here and there, but I hadn't listened to it from start to finish, which I think is the best way to listen to Muse.

It's probably their best album since Absoultion. It lacks the coherence that made Absolution such a complete album, but Absolution doesn't have so many distinctive influences. There were times when I thought I was listening to Queen, INXS, U2.

So, I just got their newly released Rome show in bloo-ray and got freaking damn, the concert rocks. The stage was absolutely amazing. They blow the house off too. Get it.

For anyone who doesn't know yet Muse are in the studio recording their new album, which is rumoured to be called Drones.

They have instagramed a few pictures with the caption #MuseDrones

From the videos they have released it sounds pretty heavy.

I'm glad someone found this thread. I wanted to post this but I was too lazy

This is my first time as a Muse superfan that they will put in a new album. When 2nd law came out I had just became a fan.

They have officially announced the new album, Drones, for release on the 8th of June.

They have already released one song called Psycho on youtube LANGUAGE WARNING!:

(I'm not sure whether I like it yet...)

I'm not liking this song, I honestly havent liked Muse since Black Holes and Revelations came out. Even then, I was partial about that album. Absolution was their last good album, in my opinion.

The new single is a big, stinky pile of dung. The lyrics above all are impossibly retarded.

What really saddends me is that they used the awesome riff for this piece of trash, and we will never again hear it as Stockholm Syndrome outro in their live shows.

Muse will maintain their freefall with this album, it seems. Truly hope I'm way wrong.

I think this song was moreso a "get into the spirit"/ have fun song than a masterpiece work. I am certain that there will be better songs in the album since they don't wanna throw their best song out first.

Isnt that generally what singles are, though? A song accepted to be one of the better songs on the Album? Why make a single out of the songs out of the ones that are not as good?

I'm personally not holding on to any hope. Like @Cano mentioned, they've been on a downward spiral for a while now.

This isn't the first single though, Dead Inside will be the first single. Psycho seems to be like what Unsustainable was for 2nd law, just a teaser.

Wow, I just googled that song. What the hell happened to Muse? It's sad really, I havent even listened to their last couple of albums, but it seems like I'm at no loss really.

Go back one page and read what I had to say about the last album. Curiously, Unsustainable was one of the best tracks of 2nd Law. Not very Muse-ish, but it's a good piece. But yeah, 2nd Law was a freaking mess.

I'm not liking this whole in your face political side of things they seem to be doing. It just makes me want to skip over everything. I hate to follow the whole "mainstream sux" mentality, because they've always been a fairly big band, but it seems the more into their career they get, and the more noticeable they become, the worse things start to get. I just went back and listened Showbiz after coming across this thread, and they just seem so much more talented back then.

I feel the same with The Arctic Monkeys. While its not as bad as a slope that Muse seems to be on, I feel they are steadily declining, and actually becoming the negative things they would talk/sing about in their early work. Alex turner just seems like a complete douche now in comparison to his earlier self.

No, singles are usually the songs that are the catchiest and easiest to recognize among mass groups of people. A single is usually never the best musically or lyrically but the easiest to understand, relate to and just mind numbing to get carried away with. I too don't care for the lyrics of this song as they are quite simplistic and even with the classic Muse anti-war propaganda it's a bit too much of a drag still.

Also look at the album cover, look at the name of this song and what it talks about, look at the album title. It's quit obvious they're trying to spread there message in a catchy simple song for people to listen to that aren't hardcore Muse fans. Also it's Muse and it seems they always go about (can't speak about 2nd Law since I hated it and didn't follow it after first listen) giving tons of singles which ends up being half the album. So I'm sure their better songs or later singles will be released in due time.

Ah, its just that this hasnt been the case for most of the music I listened to growing up. They where usually one of the best all around package on the album. This just doesnt seem the case with Muse, I guess. It's just way to "in your face" I feel, but not having listened to Muse in years, I haven't really followed them or tried anymore.

That's probably it, They are just trying to find a simpler way to appeal to the masses, and I think that is actually making them worse. I'm just simply not amazed with them anymore, their old stuff was still catchy, but it just went together way better then this recent stuff. I'm all for a good message, but if I cant even stand the actual music then it wont mean much for me. Still, they're progressing in a way that I'm not interested in. They were one of the bands that actually made me want to pick up an instrument and get to strumming. I even took the time to learn and memorize a good majority of their songs on bass. I just dont get that feel from them anymore.

I was thinking the same thing. Unsustainable wasn't a bad song per se, but I wouldn't play it on repeat over and over (like Isolated System or Madness). Psycho's not bad but it's nothing special.

Looking forward to the Drones, regardless. 👍

RIP outro Stockholm Syndrome riff. Proof that you can have too much of a good thing.

They can still play just the riff if they wanted to, it's their choice of course, just call it Psycho Instrumental.

This thread, and my distaste towards their new songs, re-sparked my interest in Muse. I was in Pasadena this weekend and was browsing through some record stores after a night out with the other half. I ended up purchasing Origin of Symmetry. It was the only album they had, although thats not a bad thing. I was really wanting to pick up Showbiz, though, but still happy none the less.

I'm sad that it didnt come with a digital download, though!
