The Muse ThreadMusic

Given that's its not out till October, and not being streamed till tonight ... how? Though that might be a bad question to ask.

It was being streamed on a French site earlier today, its now being streamed worldwide.

Ah right, just wondering.

On the subject of the album, having given it a run through ... It's pretty good. Some of it is very very Queen (Panic Station) but I like the variety in the album, more listening required for a definitive opinion, but good for a first listen 👍

I'm just listening through it now, there's a couple of songs I don't like, explorers for example. But I really do like panic station and supremacy, along with madness and unsustainable.

Nothing on the album is really that heavy though, and I like that sort of stuff. Like Stockholm Syndrome.

Also is it Liquid State that Chris is the main vocals of? I'm pretty sure it is, I'm loving that one.

Yeah liquid state and save me are both Chris. I think follow me is one of my faves at the moment. And animals. Loving this :D

You serious?

Oh man YES. SO serious.

This is one of the most erratic albums I've heard in my entire life, it almost sounds like a soundtrack for a cheesy 80s flick: TOTALLY UNRELATED music styles in one record that has an undeniable vibe of one of the worse decades in music.

Suddenly I'm listening to Queen, Prince, Cindy Lauper, Guns & Roses and god knows who with the pseudo-funk track. I hate all of those (yes, I hate Queen) except for funk, I LOVE funk, but funk is NOT why I listen to Muse.

The only elements that identify this as a Muse record are the random neo-classical philarmonic-ish sounds here and there that sometimes sound SO overproduced you end up asking why, some guitar riffs that, knowing what Bellamy is capable of, are pitiful, and Bellamy's voice which remains as the best element of Muse. The songs are totally irrelevant, or if you do remember something about them, it's always for wrong reasons (the funk track comes to mind).

Even my wife, who is a self proclaimed "muser" and a fangirl who actually thinks Resistance is a good album, sez they just tried to "experiment" with whatever music style crossed their mind, and they didn't succed. At all.

It is without a doubt the worse, woooooooooooorse record Muse has released, even more so than Resistance, which was pretty freaking bad to begin with. It is infuriating actually, knowing what the band is capable of, that such a messsed up record came from them.

Notice I never referred to it as an album. Goodbye Muse, hello cheesy 1980s soundtrack.

Animals sounds very old school Muse which I like... But the whole album is a bit of a mess, and yeah it's the 2nd Law of thermodynamics so the tracklist reflects that yadda yadda (gotta love some Muse fans), but that isn't a good excuse for not making a cohesive album.

I wouldn't go as far as saying its a mess. Muse have never really been ones for following a set genre or anything when it comes to their music.

:embarrassed: you hate Queen?!

Wellllll it's not like I hate them as I really do hate, for example, Guns and Roses. But I do not like them in the slightest.

I've listened the thing 4 times now. You begin dissecting it and it really makes you go wtf did they do this? some songs kinda grew a bit on me, but as isolated songs, and none of them are actually freaking good or anything. It's just one enormous mish-mash of stuff.

Muse are in Dublin next month...but unfortunately it's a choice between Muse tickets and my bus tickets for college. :(

Bus tickets all the way. It's not worth it for this trash.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but I'm getting the impression that you don't like the new album.

Aaaaanyway I'm listening over a couple of the songs I wasn't sure about the first time I listened to the album, and they do grow on you. They sound good over the headphones at any rate but I'm not sure how they would stack up against Plug in baby, Knights of Cydonia and all their old stuff live.
But I will be buying the album upon release date, not long now :)

I got this album for my birthday (2nd Oct, good timing Muse!), and I have to say, it's not as bad as I feared. I loathe dubstep, so I was not a fan on Unsustainable, but the other songs I do kinda like. However, I feel the album is a little too electonica heavy for my liking.

I'm not big fan of Chris' songs. I find them to be boring. just my opinion. For me, the stand out tracks are 'Madness', 'Follow me', 'Supremacy', and I can't decide about Big Freeze'.

As 1 album, the songs don't really follow to the next so I get the criticisms there. As individual songs though they ae a better collection than "the resistance". Many different sounds, and I can't wait to see them at the end of the month (sorry to those not going...)!

Thought people might like to see this, a couple of their new songs live 👍

Plus a pretty good cover of Prince

Album finally arrived today, yet to watch the deluxe DVD though.

My opinion of their new album: 2/10, dubstep? really muse? I liked Resistance a lot, but this I just can't...maybe 1 or 2 tracks but as a whole album WHYY
