Today Lord Sebastian Coe revealed to the world the new official London Olympics games logo, he said it was meant to appeal to a younger generation and be inspirational..... and here is it in all its glory....

I think that is totally appalling, paying an advertising agency about £400,000 to design that piece of rubbish... its relates in no way to London, it has no meaning, its hard on the eyes, its just an angular mess!...the only thing it does do is appear in different colours.......what a total waste of money!

The backlash has already started, nearly all of the public have said its simple horrible and its put the games image to shame... One person even said it has a slight resemblance to a swastika... Its not memorable, or maybe for all the wrong reasons, what kid is going to be inspired by that!

The mocking has also started with people messing with the logo...

I am really annoyed with this logo, it actually has single handedly dented the image of the London games in my eyes and with very little chance that they will change it it looks like the pile of mess is here to stay for the next 5 years!

They should have made it a public competition..... just look at a few suggestions from the public which fit far better.....

But still my favorite was the London Bid logo with the course of the river Thames threading through the letters..... such a pity they didn't use that, it would have been amazing..

So GTPlanet, whats your opinion on this new logo as the face of London and the UK to the rest of the world for the next 5 years??

Appeal to a younger generation? How young do you have to be to not have taste?

Really, those are just dreadful. It's not obvious what they represent, it's not memorable and most of all it looks like it was designed in 1987, not 2007. It looks as though it should belong in one of those awful educational videos from 20 years ago.

It's a real shame - it could have been so much better. Like you said, they should have held a competition or something (very Blue Peter eh :P).

Appeal to a younger generation!? Are they stuck in the 70s or something? Noone uses colours like that anymore.

I'd also love to know if those shapes are supposed to resemble anything. Otherwise, that's an extremely sloppy design with little thought in it.

That’s one of the ugliest logos I’ve ever seen, ever ever ever. And I’m obsessed with logos, so I look at them all the time. That’s just a haphazard mess of ghastly shapes. Idiots. (BTW ExigeExcel, it’s supposed to spell out “2012”, but it’s easier to see if you’re completely blind.)

This is a proper logo:

What a load of ****. Looks like someone sneezed while holding some colouring pens. Is it too late for them to change their minds?

Someone on another forum I frequent has remarked that it looks like a woman with too many earrings fellating a guy in a London shirt...

This is all I can see when I look at it now.

Wow, that's so pitiful it's not even remotely funny. I mean, did someone lose a bet? Was someone blackmailed? I'm serious. there's not excuse for an Olympic logo that doesn't have any resemblance to ANYTHING in the Olympics(except for the 5 circles)

Nobody uses shapes like that anymore either. If you look carefully the shapes read "2012".

Hang on, I recognise that colour scheme...

Gawd, now I’ll never get that image out of my mind! I don’t know how I’m going to watch the olympics now without laughing every time that logo comes up…

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like it and quite frankly to be honest I hate it. I don't know if it's true but they're meant to have paid a good £400,000 for that logo.

I'll give them some credit for their intentions, which I assume, is to attract youth interest - but really, even if it's meant to reflect graffiti or some form of contemporary art they have somehow managed to make it look seriously dated. Which in anyones book is not remotely "cool", "nang", "groovy" or any other related synonym they probably had floating around in the board room.

Whilst the bid logo was good it's understandable that they can't use that anymore, after all it has done it's job. Here's to hoping it'll grow on us

I don't know if it's against the aup but here's a link to a petition to change the London 2012 logo:

http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/change-the-london-2012-logo.html

It already has 10,000 at the time of writing.

Gosh it really makes me shudder :nervous: to think that that logo is going to be plastered on every wall, every side boarding, every piece of clothing, on transport and basically all over the whole of London... oh dear! :ill:

I agree, it looks like its from the 80's or the cold war or something! :yuck:

This took me several minutes. It’s the colors of the Olympic rings, and the arch is supposed to represent Wembley Stadium. It’s not a particularly good logo, but I think in five minutes I scrapped up something better than that stupid £400,000 piece of vomit.

Yea, I'm gonna see that forever now.

Personally, I don't think its that bad. I mean, they could have easily done something worse, but I would agree that there have been better designs presented.

I dunno. You would think they would do something like the proposed Chicago logo and use some of the icons of London to make the logo. Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, etc. I mean, they may not be a big deal to those of you in England, but you show just about anyone in the world a photo of any one of those, and they'll instantly tell you they're from London.

At least it looks interesting compared to Vancouver's:

Yup, I can't look at it without seeing that now! :ill:

I think the Vancouver Logo is way better than London's, It has cultural substance / reference and shows solidity and dominance, the logos are meant to look imposing because the games is something really special...

London's, no reference to UK culture, London or anything at all.....

Actually... it looks like Foxxy Cleopatra and Austin Powers. If that's not London, I don't know what is.

It reminds me of one of those neon-colored windbreakers from the late 80's. Awful.

Thank you, fine sir! I am a happier person because of this wisdom you've bestowed upon me :)👍

I'm going to go ahead and disregard anything said in the last few pages..... Including my posts.

My initial reaction was that the '0' with the Olympic rings looks a bit like Australia  Perhaps a very subtle dig at Australia's attempts at total independence from the UK? :P

Some bright spark has already noticed that the logo is oddly familiar...

Presumably the London Olympics will now also include custard-pie fights and gunging. The Olympic torch will be lit by Chris Tarrant after being carried across London by Bob Carolgees and his dog, Spit.

If they have a rep system at that forum, be sure to click the red tick on GTP's behalf - if you haven't done so already!

Oh dear christ that's horrendous. :yuck: I saw it on BBC news this morning, but it looks worse the more I see it.

After they unveiled the logo, the BBC showed a few entries submitted by children/teenagers. Every single one was infinitely better than that abortion, there were even one or two that already appeared to be of proessional quality. That's just...ugh. Maybe fellatio is the image London wants to send?
