Obviously, the pic above shows what it could possibly look like as a trial fitment. Proper offset will sort that out. but a a 9" wheel is gonna need overfenders.
Bah, just flare it! I pulled my RX7's front fenders about an inch to fit 17x9 +22.
 
The front fascia seems to have modernised features of the original 124, I would not be surprised if this has retro styling like the Fiat 500.
 
Testing in the USA of all places.

The amount of manufacturers that test in and around Ann Arbor and Detroit is staggering. I think it's largely due to a big EPA facility, and perhaps access to quite a number of comprehensive test facilities owned by the big 3. I'm curious to see how they will market the Fiat version and whether it will be a direct competitor to the MX-5 or if will be a more premium and luxurious car.
 
I haven't looked up the numbers for PHRT vs soft top on the NCs, so I couldn't say.

ND has a manual soft top that can be raised or lowered while sitting in the car.
 
There is no plans for a hardcore MX-5

Mazda has told TopGear.com that we won't see any hardcore performance variants of the new MX-5. Boo.

Nobuhiro Yamamoto, the programme manager for the new MX-5 - and mastermind behind Mazda's Le Mans-winning 787B prototype - confirmed the news while speaking at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

"It's important not to get hung up on numbers," Yamamoto-san told us. "Not on power, or torque. No, what is more important is the feeling. The driving experience and feeling is more important than power.

"In my mind it just has to be fun to drive,"
he added.

He also said that the new MX-5 won't get any more engine derivatives either, meaning buyers will only ever have the option of a 1.5-litre with 129bhp, or a 2.0-litre making 158bhp.

"We had five philosophies when developing the new MX-5," Yamamoto-san explained. "One, it has to be a front-midship car. Second, it has to have a compact body and be an open-topped two seater.

"Third, it has to have 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. Fourth, there must be low inertia movement.

"Five, it's got to be affordable. Faster MX-5s means more money," he added.

When pushed on whether the team ever debated - or indeed would debate in future - giving the MX-5 a turbo or supercharger, Yamamoto stated it went against the spirit of the roadster.

"I never considered using a turbo," he said, "because naturally aspirated engines are just nice, especially for this kind of car.

"What's very important to me is the feeling, and that you are happy driving it. I don't want any more power or torque for the MX-5, but the sensation is important."

Oh @05XR8 heard differently, no?

If the grand scheme of the MX-5 has changed, that's news to me. My source(s) and they are reliable(trust me), told me there will be an MPS MX-5. There will be an MPS 3 and MPS 6. No details on how they will achieve an MPS MX-5 were given but, they were shown all 3 of those models are being made and will be sold in Australia.

Now, what does Top Gear define as hardcore? Is hardcore to TG, 260hp/950kg? I dunno.
The car is already quick in 2L form. Lighter weight? Gearing? Stickier tyres? Suspension tuning? I have yet to find out what will be available.
