They have arrived.

Not to be "that guy" on the RF. But I think it looks great except for the absence of a window flowing with the rear lines. I understand why it's not there but for me it seems as though something is lacking. It's subjective though.

Clearly i'm biased with my convertible. :D

NE Miata could get carbon fibre in it's construction and smaller engines. Don't expect it before 2021 though.

Massive levels of speculation (Yamamoto isn't even referencing the next-gen in that fourth paragraph and a three-cylinder unit is a complete guess) and a healthy dose of the bleeding obvious (Mazda will continue to make MX-5s lighter? Well I never!)

2021 seems optimistic too. The last generation of Miata lasted around ten years, and when I spoke to Yamamoto in New York he said the current car would be no different:

The MX-5 has a long life cycle compared to other cars. The first generation was eight years, the second generation also eight years, and ten years for the third. The fourth generation is not going to be an exception

...so I'd be surprised if the next-gen appears before 2024 or so.

Conclusion: Wouldn't get too excited just yet.

If they go the turbo triple route, it'd be nice to see the 1.5 stay as a stripper model, on steelies.

This is what the exhaust looks like on the Flyin' Miata V8 ND. True dual, front to back.

Is this center-exit diffuser a thing or is that a custom piece too? Seems like a lot of Solidworks work for a part that will only sell for V8 conversions.

Since Mazda have broken ties with Ford(No more Ranger based BT-50 and Ford engined CX-9), I'd like to see them grab that CX-9 2.5. It'll happen soon enough.

The Abarth 124 was present at Ignition.

I've actually come around to the looks of it, especially in Abarth form and would prefer one of an ND after sitting in it and looking around the car in VR.

Next day addition:
  • 2016 Miata GT: 2328 lbs, 52.1% front
  • 2016 Miata Club: 2313 lbs, 52.3% front
  • 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Classica: 2412 lbs, 54% front
  • 2017 RF Miata GT: 2421 lbs, 50.8% front
Was the RF Miatas weight distribution checked with roof up and down?
