The Platinum Club

I'm having so much trouble with the Alfa World Tour race, this is seriously the last thing I need to gold so I can then finish my last 24 race. It's insane how hard it is, I don't know how I was able to do the red bull ones but can't manage to do this one. -.-!

Keep trying, you'll get it eventually. 👍

Thanks, I'll see if I can get accustomed to manual transmission, eventually maybe this will help me. I've always played automatic in racing games lol.

In my opinion, if you're using a wheel, it's alot easier with manual transmission.

If you're using a DS3, use whatever kind of transmission settings you feel is best for your driving style.

DS3 4 life!

I'm too broke to afford a wheel currently. xD

Best of luck! :D

That was the hardest one for me too besides the Lamborghini Special events.

I got Platinum a while ago..

Been using manual ever since the early days of GT3. Only upgraded to my DFGT in the later days of GT5 Prologue.

And STILL can't reach gold on that cursed challenge.
Anyway, getting slightly off topic here...I still fail to see how so many people can't figure out how to unlock the music trophy, or even share a photo/circuit.

Congratulations to every single one of you. Achieving platinum on this game is no easy task.

I'm pretty much done with everything on this game, except for the S.Vettel challenge...been trying at least twice a week for the past 2 years. I'm still trying my hardest today. I'm pretty sick of it, but I will soldier on!

For those who managed to clear this challenge, is there any advice that I can take advantage of? Thanks!

Well, I managed my way out those with a lot of sweat and a DS3, since it's simpler/faster to just flick the analog stick to steer.
But on Suzuka, though, I did some cheating which was allowed on a previous patch (1.10 I think) but it no longer works. I actually dowgraded my GT5 just to do it :P

If you want to try it, theres a thread about it around here.

What I did to complete this one was watch videos of gold laps on youtube (like so http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=grand+tour+eiger&aq=f), try to aply the same lines and practice.

Cheers

Sorry about the double post...
It would be SO useful to have a feature to delete our posts in these cases :indiff:

Due to unemployment and boatloads of free time I managed to get the platinum within 7 weeks of starting the game. My runtime for the Vettel challenges with the controller is around 90 hours.

Monza - 5 hours, one sitting
Nurburgring - 30-40 hours over 2 weeks
Suzuka - 40 hours over 3 weeks

The craziest was Nurburgring, since I was practicing beyond exhaustion. My Suzuka attempt was better because I was playing in shorter bursts, taking more breaks, sometimes not touching the game for a day or two, etc.

Just do note that it's counterproductive to push when you're past your best, and taking breaks is equally as important as putting in practice time.

Strangely though it's only now that I'm getting the itch to get a wheel, I feel I haven't really experienced GT5 yet despite getting the supposedly bonkers platinum trophy.

Never noticed this thread before.
I got platinum in March of 2011 - less than 4 months after starting the game.
The Vettel challenges are the hardest. It took more than 3 hours at each track and I had to unplug the force feedback on my wheel so I could steer quicker.

Here's my Eiger gameplay of how to beat using manual transmission or else auto is near impossible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee-GyjxjLeU

There is 3 places where you need to be very very careful...

1. The first set of curves. You need to be very smooth on those. Try to use the handbrake a little to 'place' the car, and then, you can accelerate.

2. The big 'U' after the bridge, this one can be hard. Look for some videos on Youtube to learn the best speed to get into it. I was trying so hard to take this turn in 2nd gear, when I tried in 3rd gear, it went a lot better.

3. The last curve-to-finish. This one can be tricky. Again, look at videos on Youtube, there is a lot of them. Learn from those videos. Focus on those turns and you should be fine!

The Competizione Alfa is a pain to drive. Once you'll get it, you'll be SO happy! Trust me! ;)

Finally got platinum! I got the game on release date but stop playing it for some time. Surprisingly the Vettel challenge wasn´t difficult to me because I nailed all 3 stages in 4 hours but the licence ones where a pain for me. Despite having reached platinum I´m still left with two objectives for the game: to Gold every competition (I have the last 3 of Resistence to win) and to have every GT5 car (not couting with the ones from the DLCs).

Smashguy: Great video guide! I also had difficult beating Eiger with the 8C but I found it more easy not using any TC (zero). For who is playing with a Wheel this can be more easy. Just a tip.

Got Platinum earlier this month! After 2 years of playing and finally gearing up enough patience, it's here, it's my most deserved I think!

 A serious congrats to those whom have achieved this via legit methods!

This Vettel challange has taken me way back recently. I was once a magazine lover of new cars and what kind of numbers these manucatures put out. Most importantly the kind of numbers they threw down the quarter mile . So one day 💡 I finally got the nerves to venture into a real drag strip and put the car to the test. Magazines were claiming they ran mid 12 second passes on a stock car and so shoot me...I should be able too :D! In my case it was a 2003 SVT Cobra.

In a short version: Reality BITES! :ouch:

In the long version. You're first attempt is far from the posted numbers and then you start wondering what the heck is the magazine talking about ! Then folks national wide (in this case, WORLD WIDE) start popping up and start claiming they are running close to it or beat it! Then this is when the sickness really starts to kicks in and consumes the every last of you it can..........IT keeps saying to you....You can too! Addictions never a good thing :ill:. In any case, during the first year it was one of the funnest times (Well, after the initial shock and realization that you suck). Every time you get into the car, strap the helmet on, do a nice legal burnout and go for it! The times start dropping and dropping :). At almost each outting you leave the track satisfied that you got a new personal best and realize that there is actually more left in her yet ;)! Now majority of the days were not so fun or good, but still fun as you lose touch with reality for a moment. You could run 20 times down the strip and either the conditions or just you mentally was not available to leave with any good slips :indiff:. Then some months you became stagnent as you could not do any better, but for sure you did worse. Some days you go back to old habbits with missing shifts or red lighting at the finals or just forget everything you learned ! So now years have gone by and so has thousands and thousands of dollars spent for gas, entrance fee, tires, clutches, parts, food and towing(s) later.....a magical day happens ! The air is super crisp, sun is just warm enough to keep the track at a nice temperature and the track feels like the owner didnt cheap out on the super glue ! You beat the number

Now I didn't beat the number on the Vettel challange just yet, but it reminds me of them days. It is not about the arrow but the indian. 2 more Vettel to go still but getting close to the Nurgburgin GP track. Cannot expect to run posted numbers if you have not put some time into it....unless you are a freak of an alian :P

2.313 away.....at least this is cheaper fun.

Finally got Platinum as well. Vettel Special Events took almost 3 weeks with varying degrees of diffuculty. Hardest one strangely enough was Nurburgring which took almost 3 weeks. Suzuka took 4 days and Monza took 30-40 minutes.

Also have 100% game completion.:)

DS3 or wheel? I could only get gold on Monza cutting the chicanes and bronze is the best I've got on the two others. I bet this Special event will be the only thing to hold back the Platinum trophy for me

Anyone else who got all three gold with a controller (ds3)? If so then I know it wont be impossible but damn hard and tough.

I got it with a controller but I cheated, a long time ago when PD released patch 1.09 it was possible to get out of bounds on monza, nurburgring and suzuka so I took my chance and glitched to get the gold times.

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Thanks for the helpful insight! Just got the silver at Nurburgring in 2 quick messy tries! Vettal is just barely in front of me now !!!

1 more !

Guys have to try what theteacher1907 suggest if you have not gotten gold via legit way. Just got the Gold at nurburgring after 15 tries :D. Just smooth inputs on brakes, turns and patients with the go pedal.

1 more to go :ouch:

 theteacher1907. Suzuka was 90% easier than Nurburgring.

Now I need to buy 530 daihatsu for the last trophy before platinum trophy comes up :D

Congrats. I found Suzuka to be a bit easier as well; less braking for sure. And once I discovered how to take the chicane to the maximum; it was easy.

Thank you for stepping in and giving great advise! I honestly never thought I would do it

The settings were the main key. Suzuka for sure is a rhythm track and almost felt like 100% throttle :D....really no hard braking but just 2 spots.

I wasnt not ready to achieve this :P 475 Daihatsu to go :ouch:

Happy New Year!

Little late, but I earned the platinum trophy in April 2011 ;)

Deleted everything afterwards and started over.
99% complete, just need to do 2 endurances (9hrs & 24 nurb).
