Treason is the reason for the seizin'.jpg

The right truly can't Meme, even the choice of actor in the image fails, not to mention the holes in the actual strap-line (not that I would expect anything else from Shapiro).

Not my meme, I didn't make it.
I didn't say you did.
The strap line is written to infer that a ban on gas cars is imminent, not scheduled for 2035, over a decade away!

I think not using AC below a certain temp and avoiding large domestic appliances between 4pm and 9pm (which is outside most EV charging hours - particularly those with smart charging) from the advice are more pertinent in impact on most people, but Shapiro has to Shapiro.

Strap line states California announced a ban on gas powered cars, which is true. No, it doesn't go into effect tomorrow, but it will happen.

California can't handle current electrical loads, but voted to push everyone to buy an EVs.

Over the course of a decade plus...

Ergo, holes in it.

How is banning petrol cars in 2035 "pushing everyone to buy EVs"? Isn't thirteen years enough time to expand the electrical grid?

In California? They might need more time than that.

They're not banning existing cars, used cars or cars bought out of state. I don't think the grid has to be completed by then.
They aren't banning you from bringing in a car from elsewhere (or buying one from elsewhere). The problem is that they need to ensure that they can handle the scenario if everyone in the state does purchase an EV by that time.

It literally says "New Gas Car Ban". Nowhere does it state that it's coming soon, just that it is coming. Which it is.
And by linking it in the headline to a current activity, it links the two events together. It associates and gives (via omission) equivalence to the timescales.

That's literally how the English language works, it's designed to be misleading.

Yes, the ban was just announced a couple days ago, the announcement itself is current, as is the latest announcements of potential blackouts and the request from the state to refrain from charging said EVs, running a/c, etc. The gasoline car ban itself does not go into effect until 2035.

Again, the headline states "New Gas Car Ban", nowhere does it state that it takes place immediately. That is how you are interpreting it.

...because it's not so funny if it's over a decade away. I think the point here is that it's only funny as long as you refuse to think about it. And I do kinda get the humor, provided I don't think about it at all.

This is California:

In part of California, you clean the smog off your patio furniture periodically. If you actually spare a moment to think about it, it doesn't matter if the electric grid can't handle the charging, they need to take action. Know what else California has a lot of, and which helps charge cars? Sunlight.

I left LA and California for a reason. I'm not going to defend California's electrical grid OR their future ban on gasoline powered new car purchases. I'm all for someone making fun of both of those things. But when a joke requires you to stifle your mind in order to find it funny, it misses on some level.

Hearing about California and UK potentially experiencing blackouts warms my cockles. They say misery loves company, after all.

Welcome to the world of load shedding, folks. :boggled:

I'm interpreting it how the writer wants it to be interpreted, in a misleading manner.

It's really not that difficult to understand, and I suspect you know that full well, but hey throw that energy behind climate change denial and its money.

You are misinterpreting how it was written.

But sure, go ahead and spin this and label me as a climate change denier.

It's written to be misleading, so I'm not.

You're sharing content mocking alternate fuel vehicles and a state that's trying to combat climate change, from a news source that denies/minimises climate change, don't blame me if that's how it comes across!
