That's quite a large oversight in a country where knowledge like that is quite commonplace, especially in the film industry where there are people whose jobs revolve entirely around continuity and authenticity.
Not to mention it is something many, many people, (such as myself) will notice right off the bat.

Although the flag on the shirt does have several issues per the US Code Title 4.
Sure, though the flag code is unenforceable as determined by the majority holdings in Texas v. Johnson (1989) and United States v. Eichman (1990), and though codified in federal statute, serves as purely advisory, especially 4 USC § 5 which applies to civilian use.

Of course one who purports to so love the flag would presumably hold oneself to the law even if the law isn't actually legally binding.

It's like Jason Aldean says: "If you engage in constitutionally protected expression, I will perpetrate an act of physical violence against you in retaliation."

I guess you could be generous and interpret the shirt as stating an intent to defend one's personal property (even if it may be hollow as one who wears such a shirt is sure to be cowardly), in which case such vandalism would be a criminal offense, but is that likely to be the actual message?

Yeah, I suppose you can buck this trend when you purposely blindside the audience but hey, that's the genius of the Barbie movie, right?
I'm not so sure there is an actual trend.

I'm not sure about whether they blindsided the audience, either.
