I'm a little bit worried about IA in next video, It seems not too fast in some car/track combinations. I warn you, is not very kind speaking, but almost for me is a surprising race result. AI at 100%, no assists and I'don't know what wheel uses.

I hope this videos are the exception, (maybe because the 100% instead 80 or 90?) but usually the game looks a lot better than this!

This is quite worrying although the build he was playing was from 16/03, so let's hope they sort it out.
AI at 100% and no aids, but with some decent driving he goes from 20th to 4th in 2 laps and wins the race with a 14 second gap? If the AI speed stays like this in the final version career mode might turn into a borefest for someone that's skilled...reminds me of offline races in Gran Turismo.

Edit: and then i watch the later builds in the other videos on this page and it looks a lot better already :dopey:

The Spa start/finish line is a tricky one. For F1 they use the start line before La Source, but for big grid races eg gt3 24 hour, they use the start line after La Source. So technically they have it right...........and wrong :D

In terms of AI, there are two major problems that I see at the moment, in terms of their speed.

1) they don't know how to overtake slow/damaged cars very well. So if they run into one it can set them back a few seconds as they try to find a way around.
2) race starts, with lots of cars grouped up together are a problem. Kind of ties back to problem number 1. Avoiding slow cars while maintaining speed requires human-like brain and this AI is mostly good at following racing line, overtaking at speed, so it becomes an impossible task.

If you look at those Spanish videos, you can see that most of the places he gains right at the start, actually mostly all around the first corner, where the AI are all grouped up and pathfinding becomes a tough task. Once they spread out they are much better at keeping up in terms of speed.

I know devs said they are looking at AI avoiding damaged cars better, so we will see if this will help with race starts too.

Anyway, still, even if not perfect, I still stand by my opinion that this is the best racing AI I've seen in recent years that competes with you without cheating.

Thanks for the clarification, hope they do get this fixed by release 👍
Regarding best AI, i guess you haven't played a Simbin/ S3 game yet ;)

- DRS animation not working correctly I think, because they werent using it (they didnt gain speed on the straight as I wasnt using it either)

Interesting. A little bit strange because it was open at the AI car in front of you for the entire lap but closed it at 1:46 and 2:02. Hope they are still working on it.

Going back to that build 973 video. Keep an eye on the car on the far left at the start and how it goes faster than everyone else including the human player and it overtakes quite a few cars. Really interesting to see such thing when normally you would expect the AI to be very slow at the start.

*If You speak Spanish cover your ears, a lot of complains too.

I only watched this first video and yes there are issues. The starts are really chaotic and should be much smoother. One or two cars getting out of shape might be normal, but passing 5 or 6 isn't a typical race start. It happens, but only once in a while. The AI needs some work. But I'd also point out again, the challenge of driving like a real driver and how it affects the gameplay.

The pass for 6th at 2:40 he forces the AI out at the chicane. Had he slowed as he should have and left room like a normal driver, it would have cost him quite a bit of time, at least a couple of seconds, going two wide in a chicane.

That pass for 6th again at 3:10, the AI is clearly heading straight for the apex of the corner but the driver passes on the inside, almost completely off the track, with almost no overlap.

Pass for second at 6:48, same as above.

Had he done what a real driver would do in all three incidents it would have cost him several seconds and been quite a different race. He still would have won but it there would have been more challenge moving through the field.

But when i watch that gt-r video it's chaotic at the start too. I know, it could all be better and we should be wanting more. But...

The GT-R video is the exception, not the rule. Yes it happens, just not as often as it appears to in the game. By the way, did you know the driver is Alex Buncombe, GTAcademy graduate? Perhaps he learned how to do it in real life from the game?

Are you sure?

Not the whole field

I did not know that. Thanks for hinting. Love his driving. Love that GT-R!!
