I hope pcars is gonna make both forza and gt really wake up, so in a few years time I will have 3 really sweet car games to play :D
The problem is neither forza or gt have any had any rivals as such so they tend to rest on their laurels. With completion I hope that they start to innovate in a meaningful way. However as they are both 1st party studios some decisions may be made to appeal to a wider audience.

The smoke effects looks So bad. But, great slides!

And the crash at the end was amazing. Everything looks to match, even the damage on the car.

Haven't had much bad to say about what I've seen from Project Cars. Definitely not a fan of those smoke effects though. I don't recall seeing anything like that from a real car every time it loses traction. If smoke effects are gonna be there hopefully they will be toned down and not nearly that exaggerated. If anything they should be very light and transparent and not those silly puffy white clouds. The mist coming off the tires in the rain would actually look better as intermittent smoke. The car is cornering not doing burnouts in a parking lot. On a positive note I am impressed with how well the smoke emission shifts and adjusts based on which tire is actually losing grip and isn't just a generic smoke trail from the rear of the car like some other games. That said, it's a minor gripe and doesn't make me look forward to PCars any less. Without a doubt it'll be the best (near)sim to ever grace consoles.

I'd have to guess smoke is just something they didn't find to be a high priority and nor would I in a racing sim. If they want to play up the drifting end of things in PCars 2 they'll have to work on the smoke but for a racing sim it's good enough. Smoke is resource heavy and one of the things you have to be careful with, especially at the beginning of a race with all the cars on screen + smoke, if you want to maintain your frame rates.

Mentioned this in a different post but hoping consoles have ability to turn smoke off. Doesn't add anything for me. Just takes away as per the replay and photo modes. Would like to get rid of it

The smoke quality/density is tied to the particle level/density settings. If you set the particle level to off, you don't get smoke. This will also remove spray from the wheels in the rain. Anyway, you don't see the smoke while drifting since it's behind you.

Im new here so I obviously havent gone through over 70 pages of stuff. I also admit to not waiting for all the vids in the op tomload on my ipad. But assuming he hasnt been mentioned so far, my fav Project Cars youtuber is Yorkie065. This is a link to one of his latest vids....

All the more reason it should be tuned down. Driving in heavy traffic with smoke like that would just be horrendous not only visually but as you mentioned, on frame rates.

Smoke looks fine

Though I politely dissagree, I'm surprised to see a familiar name. I raced with you in Forza a few times and still have you in my contacts list. League was rather short lived and seemed to fall apart after a couple races. My name there at the time was Daemunx1 or something similar, it's since been changed to zeroc00l. Hopefully I'll see you on track sometime once PCars comes out.

^^Ah yes I remember. That was Jlaw's league. Well I say "league" very lightly, that was not run very well. Bounced out of that pretty quick since I had my own league to go to.

That's the one. :) I stopped showing up after about the 3rd race or so when there were still no updates to point standings or race results.

OMG! The new analogue tach is SWEET!!!

WOW....superthrilled about the atmosphere that's going to be in PCARS.

Sweet engine/exhaust sound there, including downshifting sounds. :D

Though we should be seeing long and dense water trails/spray behind the car at over 200 kph, no?

Also, do you fellas know if there's a hi/low beam option in PCARS?

What engine does this one have? Sounds like a flat six

Ahhh.... listen to those pipes breath! Great replay angles.

I think my days of obsessing over Forza are numbered. :D

For the members. I want to actually know if the wheel or a gamepad will be "faster". Im not sure about GT but Forza for sure is faster on a gampad. This would be nice to know for us consolers.

Can any members try to match his lap times? He seems to be pretty on point with his laps.

He says he is not using any assists.

pCARS is definitely going to be faster when driven with a wheel. Being able to use more finesse will always result in better lap times because of how much more accurate you can be.

It depends on your particle settings if you lower it smoke and water spray reduces. I tried to keep my mine high but reduced AA to keep the frame rate up.

A question about the replay of the PS4 version; are those recorded using the PS4 recording feature or the game saves a video mp4 file on request? I'm asking because i make videos and race reviews of my serie's race and would be a great help!

What worries me is the fact that the guys gets to wet grass at 140Km/h (0.43min - 0.46min) and return to the track like nothing happens...
:odd:
At that speed, on wet grass, should´t he go strait to the wall?:nervous:
Actualy, after a closer look, it seems there´s no diference in grip between wet grass and wet tarmack.
Are there any aids that can make this happen?

I did ask about that a few times; rain racing seems very, very easy...

By looking at videos it seems that almost no control is required, cars are never snappy in response to throttle etc etc. I have yet to get a proper answer beside "he wasn't pushing that much".

I asked some of the most active video recorders if they were using heavy assists to make a nice smooth video but never got an answer.

@azidahaka Just notice that he´s using aids (ABS, TC, ESP), you can see the lights in the tach blinking in different situations, in some off them he would lose the car without them.
But it should´t be possible to return to track like that, even with aids on....
