Rumor: Sony set to unveil redesigned PS Vita with a bigger screen and increased RAM before TGS.

The Magic Box International
Japanese newspaper Tokyo Keizai reported a rumor that Sony is set to reveal a new PS Vita model in September before the Tokyo Game Show. The new model PCH-2000 will have a 6.3" OLED display manufactured by Samsung (screen size of the current model is 5"), and the resolution will remain at 960 x 544 pixels. The amount of RAM will increase from 512MB to 1GB, to allow more programs to run in the background, the amount of RAM used by games will be unchanged (meaning games are still compatible between old and new models). In addition, the design of the new model will be more in-line with the PS4 design; and the system will launch with new game titles.

Oh god no. If this is true, the Sony HQ must be playing Trololo as their corporate song. I spent hard earned cash on my launch Vita, only for them to up the specs a year later. Seriously, if they do this to the PS4, I'll lose all respect for Sony. Wait a second, that already happened with the PS3...

So the new model will be in-line with the ps4 design... damn, sharp edges all over it:nervous:
I've got the launch version myself, personally I think the whole idea of a full on console experience on a handheld didn't go down to well. That said, there's a few gems on it, but not the big AAA titles. I must have played super stardust delta on it way more times than I care to remember, still looks really good.👍

If might have been a change out of the need to handle remote streaming of ps4 games. Bigger screen to enjoy the ps4 level of detail and more ram to faster process the incoming and outgoing data?

Not to mention the fact the vita can also be used as a ps4 controller should the dev decide to enable that option.

PSvita is fully compatible with PS4, it's only a matter of firmware not hardware.

I love it how they shown that vita will be fully supporting ps4 games, and finally had some great games as well. I want to buy vita now

Been playing Killzone:MC beta and I love it, I can't believe how good it looks, can't wait to get my hands on the full game

Vita price drop and memory card price drop confirmed. New prices are as follows...

PlayStation Vita - $199.99
4gb card - $14.99
8gb card - $19.99
16gb card - $39.99
32gb card - $79.99

The memory cards are still overpriced, in my opinion, but the price for the Vita is awesome. It costs the same as a 3DS XL now.

32 gb still 80dollars? That means still 80 Euros. What is S thinking???????

Borderlands 2 :D

Still cost quite a lot here in NZ. $329 NZD for the PS Vita. Even though I paid $399 NZD for it last year. 👎

Hopefully the Vita will pick up sales now. For $199 you get a console that is hands-down better than the 3DS. You even get 10 games and an 8GB for a $35 extra, Nintendo are in trouble.

Console might be technically better, highly debatable the game line up is. It was the same deal with the original PSP. Nintendo are not in any trouble at all, not in the handheld market anyway.

I don't want to be rude, but the price drop even being a good decision made by Sony, this will not convince me to buy a VITA.
PSVITA will eventually has a 'Slim version', and yesterday the games showed none impressed me.

Just played my first round of the Killzone: Mercenary Beta and I have to say I can away impressed. I wasn't expecting much, I didn't really buy the Vita to play online games but it was surprisingly smooth. Frame rate seemed solid and graphics were good. I started about 0-10 before finally getting a hang of what I was doing and finished 22-29. The controls felt tight although I had to up the sensitivity. I don't plan to get it, at least not around released but it is a game on my radar now.

There is not much improvement in the new Vita. Screen turns from OLED to LCD... that is just a downgrade.

Good for new buyers that there is 1GB on board now.

I was wondering when this would happen, it seems the Vita needs a bit of a push much like the 3DS did hence the quickness of the new versions coming out. LCD is a step back but with OLED you could get potential burn in.

I'm surprised they didn't wait to TGS to announce this. One thing wasn't clear though, are they still going to sell the old one?

Doesn't look like it. On Amazon, they're exhausting their supply of Wi-Fi models as there's not going to be any more in stock. So it may be coming to the UK.

Vita is expensive so maybe they aiming for younger customers, like nintendo did with 2DS

Seems like a pretty good announcement, LCD screen may be a downgrade but it'll still be good enough and cheapen the manufacturing costs for Sony which could, in turn, give consumers lower prices. Also 1 GB on board is nice. Those memory cards are still way to expensive though, they need to sort that out !
