Of course they aren't. They are looking at the same people who go out and flush money on new iPods every time Steve Jobs announces a new color. That doesn't mean I shouldn't see the Go as the waste of money it is.
I completely agree. I have a 2000 and will not get a Go.

I am just pointing out that trend buyers and convenience shoppers won't see the benefit we see.

EDIT: I should also add that I have seen a disturbing amount of comments regarding the size being a big selling point of the Go for them, because the PSP's size never said "portable" to them.

So how would they carry, say, a DS Phat? For that matter, not even a DS Light is much more portable than a Slim, and the DSi is larger still.

Granted, maybe my perceptions are off considering I had a Game Gear as a kid (and later, the even-larger Nomad), but the Slim doesn't even seem that much larger than the original Gameboy was.

Honestly, I think these are the same people I ran into when looking at cameras that gave DSLR models all poor reviews because it wouldn't fit in their pocket. They are probably people who never owned a portable gaming device before their iPhone (which still isn't) and now see the Go as a super cool device.

I am the guy that had those Tiger game systems and later a Game Gear. To me portable means I can take it with me, not stick it in a pocket.

Also from seeing some gameplay footage of the psp go, it just looked to me like button placement was not working well.

Update on the search for a psp:

Got the PSP today after the store yesterday did not have any left. And its blue! 👍 also got Wipeout Pulse, GTA Vice City Stories. :sly:

Now just to try to get the FFFFFFFF error gone

The blue one. I would love to have that one. Matches with my Impreza :)

Pulse is a nice game, did you get the PSN version. I hope you did because of the loading times.

VC stories is also OKay. The intro movie at the military base :D "I did not know they could do THAT".

What error? Getting it hooked up to wifi?

I got retail version at the mediamarkt sale, 2nd for 50%.

Just played both games a little bit, i was suprised how well the controls work! and they look very good.

The error is when i test my connection, when it checks the internet, seems my router is going nuts, so have to reset it later tonight i think :)

A quick way to test whether it is your PSP or your router is to put your PS3 in Remote Play mode and then search for new connections on the PSP. The PS3 acts as a WiFi connection when it is in Remote Play so that you can connect directly to it when close enough.

when i use the psp browser throught ps3 access point then it return an 80410402 error

mmmm wireless-mess

PS3 as an access point will only allow you to do Remote Play. I have never gotten it to go online independently or have any other device be able to use it.

If you can see your PS3 via remote play then your PSP's WiFi is working and you have a router/networking issue.

I've thought about it, and I apologize to both Sony, Sony fans and the PSP Go's designers. It is in no way as bad of a ripoff as the DSi is. I let my anger get the better of me, and I hope it won't happen again.

First (?) review of it here. It does neglect to mention that everything game-related the Go can do, the old PSPs can do. Which is unfortunate, because they labeled it as a plus for the Go.

PSPgo Is Just $50 Cheaper Than The PS3
By David Wildgoose on August 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM

When Sony announced you’d get a free download code for Gran Turismo PSP when you purchased the PSPgo, they forgot one tiny detail: the price of the handheld itself. Seems my speculation earlier today was bang on the money.

Sony has confirmed the PSPgo will launch in Australia on October 1 and retail for $449.95. That’s in line with the European price points, but considerably more expensive than the US.

It’s also - remarkably - just $50 shy of the price of the new PS3 Slim. Quite how the vastly different technology in the two boxes adds up to such similar figures is surely baffling to all those outside the Sony bean counters.

Who’s getting a PSPgo?

Early adopter product pricing. It is not worth it, but some will get it.

Judging by the design and new PSN store PSP Minis they are coming out with, as well as non-gaming apps later on, I would say their goal is to angle the Go against the iPhone, while those of us just looking for our gaming without the fancy redesign can and will continue on with our unfashionable PSP 1000-3000s.

I think their biggest issue is that if that is their goal they will find that most people buy an iPhone for the phone/iPod combo, and then everything else is kind of an aded bonus. My brother got one for the stated reason, and then discovered the app store.

If they are not going after the iPhone, then I have no clue what they are thinking.

Had the PS3 not been reduced to $500AU yesterday I may have considered it (especially if the free GTPSP offer is offered in Australia). But I'd rather spend an extra $50 and buy a ps3 slim if I had to buy one of the two (even though I have no reason to buy a second PS3).

I just had a quick look at the Australian Apple store. Pricing wise the Go looks to be competing with the ipod Touch. The 16gb Touch is priced $419.

I guess the price isn't too rediculous if you compare it to the ipod touch. But it doesn't sit right in the Sony lineup in my opinion.

At the moment the lineup is PSP 3000 $300 (With a game. So true cost is more close to $250)
PSP Go! $450
PS3 - $500

The price announcement prompted me to order a special edition copy of GTPSP anyway.

EB Games Au will have nothing of Sony's shenanigans.
Sony’s PSP revision, the PSPgo, is all about digital downloads rather than packaged disc-based games. So what does Australia’s largest games retailer do when it can’t sell the software to play on a new hardware device? It looks like it doesn’t sell that new hardware device.

We’ve heard that EB Games is refusing to stock the PSPgo in Australia.

If you go the EB website you won’t find any mention of the handheld, despite its launch date being next week. If you call your local EB store – and we have spoken to several Sydney stores in the last 24 hours – you’ll find the PSPgo is not in their system. We even spoke to one rival retailer who urged us to preorder the PSPgo from his store because “EB aren’t stocking it.”
Linky.

What a Twist! I expect it to be a failure, but I didn't expect retailer backlash to be one of the reasons.

That's interesting, considering that Sony and Capcom have already shown a willingness to sell download vouchers in packaging with pre-order bonuses in stores.

Did AU not get Patapon 2? Are they not getting the UMDs of new titles like GT and Rock Band Unplugged?

This really seems like EB has jumped the gun here.

Digital downloads is the future for gaming. Then again, in Australia, it's not going to sell, is it?

You do realise we probably have the most rubbish internet in the world:ouch:?

We pay so much and get such crap internet, It takes me way too long to download a game. Digital downloads will not be the future for Australia if we dont get better internet available for a cheaper price and in more areas. I live in a new area, around 3 years old and we cant even get adsl2:crazy:.

I can't see a DD future for home consoles. Games would be at least 30GB (Blu-Rays can handle 50GB). Whose internet could handle that download speed wise? In my county, Tyrone, in N. Ireland the fastest speed is 4MBps. It'll be decades before 20MB+ broadband will be available in most areas.

Just to argue your point, and many peoples issue with the price of the PSPGo!. The PSPGo! has a 16GB internal memory, also you are getting a Free game with the PSPGo! if you purchase within the first 10 days.

So
PSP3000 - 300 AU with Free Game
PSPGo! - 450 AU with Free Game

To get the PSP3000 up to spec with the PSPGo!, you would have to add a 16GB Memory Stick to the PSP3000. A 16GB Sony Memory Stick in Australia Retails for 190.00 AUD, which would make a PSP3000 @ 16GB more expensive than the PSPGo!. You could also argue that the PSPGo! having built in Flash memory would still outperform the PSP3000 due to the speed of the memory compared to a standard memory stick. And yes you can purchase higher speed memory sticks for additional dollars.

Add that to the PAL promotion, which nets you 3 Free games, you are effectively getting about 150.00 AUD (RRP) worth of games when you pick up your PSPGo!. For example, if you purchase within the first 10days of PSPGo! release in the PAL region, you will pick up a copy of Gran Turismo PSP, + 3 other Platinum games, or GT for PSP +2 other Platinum games + Resistance Retribution.

I know you can pick holes in that argument, and not everyone wants 16GB's of storage space, some people just want to play games on their PSP and like physical media. The PSPGo! isn't for everybody, I'm just trying to even the field a bit and show that the PSPGo! isn't as 'horribly overpriced' as many people are making it out to be.

You overlooked one fine detail in J-Pap's quote.

He said: At the moment. It is no longer at that moment.

As for the US: His point still stands. PSPGo comes with Rock Band Unplugged Lite (comes with five songs only) and you can catch 16Gb Memory Stick Pro Duos for as cheap as $65, regularly priced at about $85 on Newegg. So, you can get the PSP 3000/GT bundle + full-priced 16GB memory stick for $285 (and have a 2GB card for backups), or PSP Go + GT for $290. In the US the pricing is very much in-line, assuming that you don't hunt down sales and bargains on the 3000. Considering I have seen people buying used PSPs for anything from $20 for slightly damaged, but functional units to $100 for perfectly fine units I think the Go will face a price issue in the US.

Yeah I did skip over that detail, although my argument wasn't entirely aimed at J-Pap, it was more so geared towards balancing out the general consensus that the PSPGo! is an overpriced piece of hardware, based on RRP values.

In saying that, your point is very good 👍 . It is a little unfortunate in the US, I feel the US are getting a bit shafted on the launch of the PSPGo! by comparison to what the PAL regions have got on offer.

As an update to pricing, There have been a few further price drops.

PSP Go + GT for free - $398 AU
PSP GT bundle - $278 AU
PSP on its own - $250 AU
