Triple Six Mafia is not Mainstream Rap. They are rarely heard on the radio and they are rarely on MTV, which is one of the few reasons why I love Hypnotize Minds Records. They make all of their beats and DJ Paul and Juicy J have produced over 30 cds for HMR, mainstream my ass, you dont see 3 6 releasing like 10 singles like 50 Cent and unless you are in and around Memphis I seriously doubt that you will hear them on the radio, get your facts straight toyomatt.

My facts straight??? I hear their damn songs every 15 minutes on the radio. They play them on 4 different stations in Des Moines. I hear them all the time. That makes them mainstream in my mind and most others. And if you say they haven't been on MTV much, compare them to Jurassic-5, and see how much more air time they got then J-5. I bet you'll find that J-5 got only 2 videos released on MTV2, not even on MTV. And, basing of the fact that you sound like you listen to a lot of rap, you can understand that J-5 kicks serious arse.

what about Public Enemy? they are getting a bit old though!! its their last australian performance here soon, and its an over 18's event!! that sucks!

Thank you, I cant believe that a thread about Real Hip Hop went 2 pages before PE was brought up. Whats even more sad is it went 4 pages before I came here and dropped KRS-One's name.

KRS-One, not really my 'cup-o-tea'. But have you heard the D&D Allstars 1, 2 Pass It Remix? KRS is on that with Jeru, Smiff-n-Wesson and Mad Lion and it's a belter!

Some good classic Hip-hop albums, commercially released, but I wouldn't call mainstream. Few of these rappers went south, but these albums showed their abilities.

Wu-Tang - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Nas - Illmatic
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
A Tribe Called Quest - Mightnight Marauders
Gang Starr - Step In The Arena
Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
2Pac - Me Against The World
Mobb Deep - Hell on Earth
A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory
Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back
Gang Starr - Daily Operation
Big Pun - Capital Punishment

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five anyone?? Specifically The Message. I love that song. Mos Def with Massive Attack - I Against I is good. I'm also a big fan of Naughty by Nature.

Everything else I like's been mentioned thus far.

J-5 has been on MTV, their new single(well the old one) was in the Top 10 TRL thing. 3-6-Mafia, ehhh not really my style, but on the radio down here in Miami, I haven't heard them but a few times. In the clubs, now thats a whole different story, I mean.. how many times can you play one song?! :irked:

big big fan of rap, hip-hop, urban, r n b, whatever you want to call it. I love Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Nas etc BUT
I understand what everyone says about commercial rap. I too have Kweli's albums and also like Gangstarr etc .....

Long live music !! and each to their own

If I had to name my favourite artist it would have to be nas.

You guys have GOT to give Deltron 3030 a shot. He's simply AMAZING. The beats in some of his songs sound better than some of Dre's best work :D. The lyrics are pretty damn good too

Yea, Deltron is a hot artist, I have a couple of his songs 👍

Kid Koala lays down the beats in Deltron 3030. His solo career is worth checking out. Top notch DJ.

Dan "The Automator" Nakumura produced the album and everything he touches turns to gold.

I've actually decided to go back to the Gorillaz CD, which features Deltron and is produced by Dan Tha Automator.

Deltron and Damon Albarn on the same CD. Who'd have thunk it?

Class.
