They need to come out swinging and beat the new turbo Cayman with this car. The 4c also needs to choke and die on Alpine dust. The 4c looks like a freaking jacuzzi on wheels. It is so grotesque on the road. It looks like a plastic fiberglass monstrosity.

They have to beat the 4c on weight/handling and come in between the Cayman and Cayman S on power and lap time at the very least.

Weird it wasn't at Geneva.
Hopefully its sold in the US and isnt outrageously expensive.

Anyone else thinks it looks to Audi'ish at the rear.

So... Any updates? It seemed like it was pretty big news for a while but it seems that it just faded away?

For something that was originally rumored to come out sometime this year, I can't find out anything about it.

The production version will revealed this winter and sales will start next early year.

There might be a convertible and high performance model of the car. They are also working on a SUV.

I suppose Alpine needs a crossover to generate enough sales to keep building and developing low-volume sports cars. I hope the crossover ends up being a direct competitor to the Porsche Macan, perhaps lighter if possible.

Not strictly the case, at least from any decent sources. I believe Alpine intends to unveil a production version at an upcoming motor show (Paris is next month) or towards the end of the year at a dedicated event (given previous history, something at Monaco seems likely). I'd not expect to see cars rolling around until early next year, at the earliest.

I dunno. It's not unattractive, though if it's disappointing in any way it's that it would have looked so similar to the Alpine. Suspect Renault wore the trousers in that relationship, since the Alpine's form was dictated so much by the A110 and the Caterham appears to have only detail changes.

I do wonder if Caterham will ever again develop anything that isn't some variation of the Seven. The Caterham 21 back in the 90s was rated highly in the press but a sales flop (didn't help that it launched at the same time as the Elise) and I can't imagine they'll ever produce something like the above without some kind of joint venture like the Alpine one.

I'm not even sure they can. Will anyone buy a car from Caterham that isn't yet another seven variant?. Do they even have the resources to build something that isn't a track car?

It's quite a plain shape once you take away the distinctive Alpine detailing. It would have had to have been a hell of a performer to have taken sales away from potential Alpine customers.

To answer the first question, I don't see why not - but it'd need to be the right product. The 21 was potentially the right product, but at the wrong time - the Elise looked and handled better and had more cachet to its name.

To answer the second question, probably not. Though to be fair to Caterham the Seven isn't exclusively a track car. Perfectly usable on the road, with a certain mindset. And by that I don't mean you have to be mad (as you would to drive say, a Radical on the streets), but you do need a relaxed attitude to noise and discomfort.

Wasn't the 21 practically a 7 with a body on it?
Basically, yeah. Was highly-rated at the time (as you'd expect, given the Seven has always been popular) but it was also relatively expensive, which didn't help comparisons with others.
