I started smoking when I was 16. And unlike alot of the people around me at the time, didn't start off trying to make a fashion statement or anything.

Wait, from what age is smoking permissible in your country?

In Ohio it's illegal to buy tobacco products under 18 (and to buy for a minor) but its legal to smoke under 18. Not sure about how other states address the issue.

Tried a Camacho sampler from Mike's. Tried the Camacho Corojo Churchill (red cigar) and it was pretty damn good! Strong flavor of leather, spiced dried fruit, pepper, earth and barnyard funk. But, it started off harsh and bitter and ended that way. The center proved somewhat rich and smooth, though.

what's the smoking culture like in your country?

That's from the OP.

I have an honest question, and I really mean it in a nice way.

I'm a non-smoker, so I don't know, but... Is there generally a "safe/fair distance" to stand away from people after smoking?

I don't want to tell the people "go away, I can smell nothing but your smoke," but I do want to say something like "could you please stand maybe a foot farther away?" to some of the smokers in my region.

Is there a polite - or, at least, more polite - way to ask?

Thanks.

I don't smoke around young children but for anyone else I generally judge by several characteristics; a smoke hater I stay well away from, a non-smoker who isn't fazed I'll get close to but not next to, another smoker I don't care.

The best way to ask somebody to move away is just to be blunt but polite. In my experience, unless it's impossible to move, I'll usually tell that person to move themselves since they're aren't being forced to breathe my smoke. But I can be an unpleasant person at times.

Lit a Newport up tonight for the first time in a while.

So going to regret it later. I tend to hack up blood on menthols. Damn fiberglass.

Is there a definitive reason you personally can't walk away? Or is there a block of cement chain tied to you or something?

Menthols? Newports? What are you, a sissy or something? Get yourself a pack of Marlboro Blacks and be a real man. In all seriousness I'm just kidding. But really any favored cigarette/cigar tend to have fiberglass in them. Obviously not good. If you're looking for flavor I'd strongly suggest an E-cigarette.

Oh hell yeah I agree I MUCH prefer Marlboro blacks. They are WAYYY better in my opinion, but Newports was all he had on him at the time, and are much better than the Senecas everyone buys around here (I prefer Marlboros anyways in general) and I was getting a cig off him anyways, and on top of that hadn't had one in a while so it was pretty good to me. I prefer menthols but I'll smoke anything.

I might look into an E-cig...but I never cared for the ones that use water vapor. Just not the same.

I agree with you on the "not the same" part. I try to weigh my advantages though. They don't ruin the car, the interchangeable flavors are always good for a change, chicks dig them A LOT more than the "gross, iky cigarettes" and I feel like I can smoke them whenever I want to. But I always bring the Zippo and Marlboro Mediums with me wherever I go. Nothing can beat your favorite cig. Except maybe your favorite cigar!

I to be honest the ones with the water vapor just don't taste right. I don't really care for them. Other types are catching on where they dose your nicotine content and wein you off if slowly. Most people still smoke cigarettes though so not many people care.

Been enjoying cigars as of late, which I forgot how much I missed. A co-worker gave me a few Perdomo Fresco in a Churchill size and they've been rather smooth with a nice flavor. I smoked one while working this afternoon at home and it seemed to make the stressful day that much nicer. I think I need to pick up a few more cigars after work tomorrow so I can enjoy them on my back deck with some of the Kentucky bourbon I got on my trip to the south.

I enjoy a nice cigar every so often, though they tend to have too much smoke for me. I tried some wine flavored one last week and it was delicous.

So I had a cigar for christmas. All I've been thinking about in my idle time is which cigars I should try next. Is this the nicotine speaking? That **** is dangerous man. I only had like half of one. I really liked the taste but I hated the smoke getting in my nose as it escaped. There's gotta be a better way to manage that. My throat's been a little irritated too. I've had a pretty gnarly sinus infection and I think I smoked it out. Not sure what's from the tobacco/acid irritation or from disease.

It's pretty remarkable the difference between the smell and taste. I wonder if it's even the smoke that carries those flavors. Seems like you get that hot vapor carrying flavor when you puff in, and then the smoke sort of follows and fills in before you puff it out again. God forbid you inhale it or get anything in your nose post-nasally. Yow!

So I'm going to pick up a few different My Father's, and a Rocky Patel. Basically, everything that's on Cigar Aficionado's list that's under 8 bucks.

Any new recommendations for lighters or cutters?

I've been partial to a cigar from time to time but I never found them as enjoyable as cigarettes so it never took off.

I've not much of a clue about cutters as I always had mine cut for me but I found that wind-proof torch type lighters are the best for an even burn. Like this -

Anything Rocky Patel is worth smoking, as is anything by Perdomo with my favorite being the Lot 23.

As for a lighter, I use an Xikar one and for a cutter, I use whatever one they gave me at the cigar store because I see no need to spend a bunch on one.

It's maybe not up to the standard of the cigar talk but I've just really enjoyed a rolly (self-made cigarette from rolling tobacco) & am about to really enjoy another one before bed. :)

Back when I smoked cigarettes, there was nothing better then one you rolled yourself with really premium tobacco. It was nice to know exactly what was going into it.

I think when you're smoking regularly, each individual prefers whatever they're used to. People frequently offer me a factory made tab (local slang for any type of cigarette) but I tell them I prefer "these", while making my own. I smoke them because they're what I like & don't enjoy anything that's not "my brand".

Xikar cutter for me, and generally I use long wood cigar matches to light up. I've typically stuck to the same type of smokes such as Partagas Black Label gigante 6.0.x60 or La Gloria Cubana Serie R 7. As for lighters though, if I'm out and about the lighter I have is a Bugatti CEO, burns evenly 99% of the time.

****ing hell, guys. I had a Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado. What a stinky thing! Had nice bell pepper, banana, and leather flavors. But I can't get that nasty tarry tobacco FUNK off of me.

How the hell do you smokers deal with that? Yuck lol. The cigar was really nice but it's not worth the clean-up effort.

Just went for a walk with a Le Bijou 1922. Did not enjoy it at all. It was acrid and cigarette-like. It smelled fantastic unlit, but the smoke was awful. Did I do something wrong? Maybe it was because it was windy? I enjoyed the Melanio much better. The cleanup was easier too. I could barely get that Melanio aftertaste out of my mouth and off of my clothes, but the Bijou wasn't bad at all.

Just finished a Flor De Las Antillas. Nice cigar. Much better than the Bijou. I'm going to go for another maduro next because I liked the Melanio the best of all of the cigars I've had so far. I like that it was very out of the ordinary. The Flor was a great smoke though. Maybe it's because it was my first Toro. I've only had torpedoes and figurados so far.

I'm pretty happy that I'm not really addicted or anything. Just have been curious after buying a few different types. Frankly, it's not really my thing but certainly worth trying what's out there.
