Well a good turnout for this race saw 13 starters. The weather forecast was typical of British weather forecasts, with constant rain throughout. This race was a real test for me, I knew it was going to be hard, but keeping the will to carry on was a real struggle. But I carried on until the race ended, and now I am pleased that I did.👍👍👍

The podium picture will be posted tomorrow, due to the late finish of this race. Massive congrats for the top 3, and everyone else who took part in this first Sunday Cup endurance race with heavy damage, and bloody weather.👍👍👍

Holy crap that was exhasuting.

Great race guys, sadly my one stop strategy was ruined by a mistake at Blanchimont on the lap right after I first pitted, had to fix a wheel. Still happy with where I ended up despite that.

I don't think I've done an online endurance in the rain before, was constantly fighting the car every corner, was awesome.

Congrats to Tpe-Rus for a very impressive drive. 👍

From my GT5-weather experience, it never stops raining. ^^
Yeah.. ^^

I had good fun in the wet, some good fights and super-thrilling last 2-3 laps, with some luck i managed to keep my 5th, but man, i was nervous! Shame it didn't stop raining, it was tough swimming lesson, but neverthless, it was fun.

Thanks Ade for this event, congrats to winner, podium guys and everyone, who brought the car to the finish, because even that was an achievement.:)

... that was exhasuting...
Absolutley, came out wet of my seat

Was fun race at begining,I thought some of you where on intermedias, it seamed that I have much more grip.
Later I was just trying to stay concetrated and to push some more after pitstop.
Too bad that rain didnt stip,it whould be even better, also racing whould be much closer.

But I enjoyed last night evening :)

P.S. sory for the first race, I accidently left the track and tryed to get fast back on and the game automaticly change my tires to RH

Well I had a hefty little headache yesterday from watching all that LeMans action and too little water so my temper might have been a bit shorter than usual.

I was quite annoyed by the restart due to this. The tyres you enter the track with are the ones that will be fitted during the race start. Its the same reason why people couldn't cheat the tyres in the main season. I did my qualification on Inters and set my time against RH. Giving everyone a free set of Full Wets put me at a disadvantage. It annoyed me more than it usually does yesterday. I was even wagering to set my Q time on FW...Fuel and I had such great pace on that first flyer because of chosing the right tyres from the beginning...

As for racing in the Wet: staying off the line thats quick in the dry has a lot more grip in the wet, wet rubber is slippery as 🤬. I was suprised how well this is modeled in GT5.

My race went quite well in the beginning. Pitted lap 15 on minor damage. Got another damage in T1 on ~lap 20, which improved my handling strange enough with more understeer. Blew it once on lap 25 and upgraded it to major damage. At that point my headache was killing my concentration quite a bit. Had a bit rougher pass on Dowlin in the end, but karma bit me and managed me another off on the last lap. Pace was tops, offs where flops. Good race non the less, but I should have had 5th save (on better days).

^^ this took me 26 laps to realize. AMG academy special event lessons obviously hadn't stuck

I can sympathize with being annoyed at the restart as I too qualified on inters and switched to wets for the race (which didn't/doesn't work I discover at the time). I was making good pace having selected the intermediate tyres for quali as it was much more suitable that those forced to the RH. Given the conditions.

Great disciplined racing by all. Full damage and rain is a cruel mistress as I found out

I had a lot of fun at our 30th event in the Sunday Cup!
The rain was nerve racking at times combines with the heavy damage. Mega.

I apologies to Third and any other driver about the first start with the tyres.
I had gone with rain tyres (changed in the pits) although it was still to dry for that. As it turned out, it would have been the right gamble. I was not aware of the fact that the game resets too the tyres chosen in the lobby setup. As were many others.
In possible future Endurance events with heavy damage and weather I will put this in the notes of the event. (Hint hint) Don't worry Ade, I'm not stealing your thunder.

As for the race, brillant pace by Petros, great pace by Adam and Rob!
I loved it.

...selected the intermediate tyres for quali...
I thought we can only use intermediate at 35% wet and full wet tires at 60%...
I Q on RH since there was less than 10% wet when I came out the pits, later went to pit and computer automaticly gave me intermediate:indiff:

At first I thought we can choose what ever tires we want, which could be good for race strategie...

Well we have raced the Evora's for the last time, all be it in totally different circumstances than what we have been accustomed to in The Sunday Cup. I would like to point out first, that last nights race was in answer to suggestions that have arisen over the course of S3. We will probably use these settings at some point in the future, but they will be saved for one off special events like last night.

The night got off to a promising start, with 13 racers on the grid. At 8.15pm, the weather settings were changed to those we had been practicing with, but what I didnt bargain for was heavy rain from the off. The track was quickly soaked, and many of us ended up starting the first attempt of the race on the RH tyre, as this was what we picked at the start of quali. Although the formation lap went well, and added some tension to the race start, it soon became clear that many of us were having tyre trouble after the rolling start with the RH tyre and the track at over 65% surface water. This attempt was abandoned, and we went for a restart, with everyone selecting the Racing rain tyre. By now the track was at 87% surface water.

We started the race without the formation lap, but with the rolling start we had been practicing, and I was preying for a break in the weather, but it didnt come. I was struggling for grip, and falling behind badly. The further back I got, the harder I tried, and the harder I tried, the further back I got. At one stage, I was beginning to believe that the pit lane was part of the track. I lost count of my stops to repair damage, but carried on hoping for a break in the clouds, that never came.

By the end of the race, I actually felt like I had driven the entire Le Mans race on my own. I did enjoy myself, but also, I am glad the races are not like this in a normal SC season.

Now to last nights results. One word.....PETROS, and WOW. Thats 2 words I know. Coming from 12th on the grid to take a very impressive win, and a fastest lap time by nearly half a second. Well done mate, I think you could give Dan a run for his money. Congrats to Hancock and Rob for completing the podium, and to everyone else for showing true grit, and battling through the extremes.

As I have mentioned before, I will not be hosting any Sunday Cup events throughout the duration of GTAcademy. With GT6 coming this year, it is highly likely that SC4 will be held back until the new game is out. I do however have some plans in place. I have enjoyed racing with you all, and the full grids we see each week indicate that I must be doing something right, and its important to me that I continue to provide good racing entertainment. Therefore, after the Academy finishes, there will be an interim Championship. More details of this will be published as we go through July, and I am sure you will like what I have in mind. (and it does include some other suggestions that have been put forward).

If anyone wishes to organize any 1 off races, during the Sunday Cups short sabbatical, please feel free to use the thread.

Sorry for the long post, and thank you all again for your participation in Evora Evolution.

Great fun while it lasted for me! A real challenge and I was gutted to end early. There was maintenance on my line which we were not informed about... -.- Well done to all and especially the podium. I hope we can do something similar in the near future.

Well that was some race.... Loved the challenge of driving in those conditions....

I for one was super happy to get the restart, because I got hit up the rear on the warm up lap (was a lag issue with Fuelmyfire, who I don't think realised he had hit me! ) with heavy damage to the engine and rear of the car. I think the one warm up lap was a great idea, but would have been better if a little more distance was left between cars.

Despite my desperate plea to keep it clean on the first lap, I got hit by KidCZ on that very first lap of the main race, and because of this it turned into a lonely race for me. The rear end damage I sustained would result in the car being quite undrivable at times and multiple spins. I lasted a couple of laps before I had to pit to repair the damage. I did try and say over the microphone that a race is not won on the first corner or even the first lap. Prudence is really the best call of action in wet conditions with heavy damage; Only go for an overtake if it's a long straight and a clear cut manoeuvre... But, this was not the case and I suffered for it.

After that I managed to keep my car free of damage for the entire race, but I seldom had anyone to actually race against :-(

I think for the next race with full damage, I will elect to start at the back where I can't be hit!

Anyway, I really did relish and enjoy the challenge of staying on the track in the wet conditions especially in the 2nd half of the race. The Evora has been an amazing car to race with, and Belgium was a fitting finale.

Looking forward to hearing of your future plans for the interim series Ade.

jammyrex: Oops, i don't remember clearly what exactly happened, but i remember giving someone slight bump, didn't know the game is that sensitive to damage! Certainly didn't think it could cause any trouble. Sorry for that, will be more careful next time.

Fuelmyfire
Yeah Jammy, it would appear my net wasn't playing ball. I apologise again for that but I had no idea!

Yeah I know you didn't do it intentionally Fuel, but cheers for the apology.....

Thanks for the apology Kid. Well, that's the thing with heavy damage, even the slightest of knocks can cause damage and it really underlines the need to only make a pass if it's clearcut & safe to do so; if it's 50/50 then you can't afford to take the risk. That first lap affected my whole race and I was never going to have a chance of a decent result from there.

If i remember correctly, it was at the end of the Kemmel straight. I probably just missed the braking point there because of the spray and only tried to minimise the damage, wasn't exactly going for a pass. Not that it matters now, just wanted to be clear on this.
But again, sorry, especially if it cost you that much.

Having viewed the replay myself tonight several times, the incident was coming out of the turn at the end of the Kemmel straight. There was a lot of spray, and it seems that Jammy's car got a slight twitch whilst straightening up, and Kid slightly glanced his rear left. Kid got past, and Jammy continued, but his car got into a bit of a wobble and went onto the astro turf to the right before the final chicane, and he got into a bit of a tank slapper, and had to slow to correct this. I did not see any damage displayed to either car fom this in my replay.

I have asked another racer to view the replay, to see if any damage shows up, and to give me a third party opinion of the incident.

Thank you gents.

Yeah having checked the replay again, I had nearside rear damage following the contact. Kid suffered front offside damage. But, having damage on the rear in slippery conditions made it pretty hard to control, and the first time I braked hard after the incident my car snapped right and I got into that tank slapper.

Yeah my speed was a bit compromised through the corner as I had a slight twitch mid bend because I didn't have the confidence on cold tyres in those wet conditions, but I was pretty much on the racing line, where Kid was on the throttle (modulating it but accelerating) going through the apex and ran into the rear/side of me. All heat of the moment stuff though granted.

Ironically though, it felt like I got hit harder in the rear by Tpe-rus earlier in the lap, but no damage was sustained....

Anyway, my only frustration is more often than not, in the full damage races I have participated in I seem to get clouted early doors!

Yeah, I remember that:scared:
Damage depends about few things. If you try to avoid someone while still on brake or deaccelerating you might not get any damage.
Accelerating or full throtle, damage secured. All depends about speed

Off topic, but we were priveliged to have a special guest at work today. Ahead of this weekend's British Grand prix, Kimi Räikkönen visited us at Hethel. I didnt get the opertunity to meet him, as this was only available for a selected 30 people, however I managed to get one of the lucky few to share a pic of Kimi, and also the mini crash helmet he got signed.

Also got the chance to get some footage of him hooning an Evora S and an Exige S around the test track. Only short videos, and a bit shakey, but worth a look.

If anyones interested, heres a link to our local BBC station with an article on Kimi's visit to Hethel yesterday. There's a bit better footage of the hoonage in the Evora, and the Exige, than I could cpture on my phone.

It on the Iplayer, and the article is at 21.50

Its only up for 24 hours. Enjoy.👍👍👍

Removed from IPlayer now.
