Great first race in the Sunday Cup! It was very intense the first 5 laps or so. While Jamesy and I were fighting for positions Cobani could eventually break away from the draft and there was no stopping him. All we could do was hope for a mistake, but it didn't happen. After the pitstops I came out behind Jamesy just to miss the draft. All I could do was keep concentrating and try to push. I managed to catch him with 2 or 3 laps left and we had a little battle for second place. I had a good time and hope everybody else had too. This series could very well be a success.

First. I have to say a big thanks to ADE for setting this race series up:tup:.
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

The race as i predicted was EPIC, the first 7 laps with 3 of us swapping first place many times.
I can see this being a very tight series with close racing all the way till the last race .:)

I must commend all the drivers for being so fair and honest with their racing 👍 (long may it continue)

Now race 1 is over refresh your car and do some practise for race 2
(and post your times (and settings))

Thanks Ade for the event! 👍 I like the concept of having one car and different tracks. It also fits me to have a car that is not so powerful, makes it easier for me to stay on track…

I’m satisfied with my race! I knew that I didn’t have the possibilities to keep pace with the four or five top drivers so my tactics was to keep it cool the first lap or two and then hold a well-balanced pace. It worked out well! I had the fifth place during the whole race, did the pit stop after lap nine or ten just to have fresch(er) tires by the end of the race just in case that there should be tight. During the race I had a free road almost all the time, which made it possible to keep my own pace. I had company with Cobani and Jamesy for a lap or so after their pit stops, hope I didn’t blocked your way too much.

Unfortunately Ade spun out in the up-slope on the first lap, but later on he caught up with Omnius, passed him and was aiming for me the last one or two laps. Omnius chased me for the whole race and I was really stressed about seeing your front in the back mirror!

But I was a little surprised over seeing Optimoose ahead of me on the last laps. I believe you forgot to stop at the pit to change tires, have a soft drink and flirt with the post race party girls…?

Looking forward to the next race! :)

Great race guys, great first couple of laps untill i lost my cool and dropped behind the front runners! I got a new fastest lap of 1:34:575 during the race though so happy with that.

I think Optimoose must have changed his tyres like this:

Thanks for the kind words guys, it really was an epic race. I might have been further up the front if it hadnt been for my spin at the very start coming through Eau Rouge. No one was to blame but me, putting my right rear onto he grass, I went into un uncontrollable spin into the left armco:banghead: I then spent the next 10 laps playing catch up, by getting past GOODWOLF, OPTIMOOSE AND OMNIUS. I then spent a couple of laps behind ROSENLUNDARED who was then in second place behind COBANI, who had come out from his pit stop. I then pitted on lap 10, only to find myself playing catch up again, and pushed too hard on green tyres, resulting in another spin. OMNIUS then passed me, and I was then chasing him again. I got passed and was slowly catching ROSEN, but ran out of laps. Thanks very much, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as me.

Now for the bad news.

It came to my attention last night that OPTIMOOSE20 did not make the mandatory pit stop, that is written in the rules in the OP. After conferring with the race stewards, and watching the video myself, it is clear that he did not make the pit stop. This breach of the rules will result in a time penalty which will reflect the time advantage that he gained through not making the pit stop.

This will affect the results of last nights race.

The final results from last nights race and driver standings will be posted this evening.

... I had company with Cobani and Jamesy for a lap or so after their pit stops, hope I didn’t blocked your way too much ...

You didn't Rosenlundaren, no worries. 👍 And then again, if you were in front, you had track position, so entitled to defend your position!

So for my race ...

A tense quali saw me getting pole on the last lap and the start was very clean. 👍

Four of us lead the pack in the opening laps.

Fantastic racing with Cobrius and Jamesy made for some sweaty hands as we diced and changed position regularly.
SC_Race1_02.jpg

For a full 6 laps one mistake would make the difference and Spa made for some super slipstreaming.
SC_Race1_03.jpg

The final lead change was with Cobrius and myself outbraking each other after Eau Rouge and Les Combes.

I got a break because the battle for 2 and 3 was intensifying and went for it untill the pitstop.

My crew did an amazing job ;) and got me out in the lead just ahead of Rosenlundaren.

From that point on it was the case of not making any major mistakes (in which I didn't succeed :nervous:) and getting to the chequered flag first.

Great racing from everybody and fairplay all around. Respect.👍

The photos are amazing Cobani, if your not careful I may make you the Sunday Cup official photographer. I have watched the replay quite a few times now, and I am now just waiting on the stewards decisions before posting the final results of race 1. If only I hadnt spun at Eau Rouge on the first lap, I may have been up at the front.

I feel like an idiot for missing the pit stop, which was clearly defined in bold red font. I wondered why everyone was going for a pit. Sorry for messing up the results of the race-will not happen again.

Cheers!

No problem, you didnt notice the bold red font as I only changed it to red last night, so please dont feel like an idiot. Thank you for being cool about the time penalty I have given. I worked this out by timing my own pit stop (from pit entry to exit) and taking away the time it took to get the same distance on track in the race. We know that the tyres last a long time on our Elise, but the pit stop is there to add to everyones race strategy. As the series goes on we may see drivers choosing to pit early to try and get the undercut on others, or drivers leaving the pit stop until the end, and having to drive the last lap on cold tyres against those on warm tyres. It also gives you a quick break from the action.

Are you keeping the updates here? Has the blog idea been dropped? (I think it's better here as more of us have accounts and I keep forgetting my password for wordpress!!!)

Its easier to interact here, photos for example 👍

All the updates will be on here, as I have learned that running the blog is double the work load, however the blog will be used, it will just be updated with each fortnights race results, and anymore prizes I can get my hands on.

The Sunday Cup race 1 final results

Thank you all for being patient, but the final results from Sundays first race are ready. The delay was because there was an investigation into an incident that had to be looked at by PSN-OMNIUSALX (race marshall). The incident involved COBRIUS and JAMESYBOGRAT (race marshall). It was on lap 16 of the race, just before the last chicane. JAMESYBOGRAT appeared to leave the track during the pass. After viewing the replay and asking OMNIUS to view it to, it has been decided that it was a racing incident, and no action will be taken. The racing was very close, and JAMESYBOGRAT had no choice, to go on the grass or cause an accident.

There was also the case of OPTIMOOSE20 not making a pit stop, for which he will incur a 25 second penalty. This penalty has been added to the results below.

Pole position..COBANI.
Fastest lap..COBANI..2:32.913

RACE 2
time..... 1:35.5

with the same setup as Spa....

post your times

Did a quick test (turned out not to be so quick actually ;)) on this short Nurburgring circuit. Could only manage a 1:35.937 with the same setup as Spa.

Looking at the points table and the small difference between a win and second, third ... it will be really important to finish each race as high as possible, 'cause with one (really)bad race, it will be so hard to catch up during the season.

*More practice needed* :)

Just had a few laps, also using the Spa set up, and quickest was a 1:36.9xx. I am happy with the suspension, but I think I need to make some transmission changes.

I am hoping that the points table will keep the championship really close right to the end. 👍

Anyone for practice on Sunday at 8.00pm? Same as last time, 20 minutes practice, then a 3 lap race leaving the grid every 10 seconds, or if you prefer several 3 lap races with reverse grid. Maybe an idea to make it 4 or 5 laps, as the track is shorter than Spa.

Several short races is the way to go I think. Racing with other cars around you really helps me learning racecraft. Run around and chase laptimes you can do by yourself.

Several short races it is then. I think thats a better idea than my original plan. I can still get data from the replays to post up some times. 👍 I will update the OP.

Very well said, I agree.

I'll take the option on the practise session. I'll need it and with the other two nice places I've found in GT5 ( TCR and apparently some wierd 'Mega Mad Mini Mahem' ;) ), my GT5-time is limited and I need some sort of appointment to practise, otherwise it might not get done.

Cool, that practice format suits everyone better I think, so we will go with several short races with reverse grid. I will add you to the practice list.

Mega Mad Mini Mayhem, ;) It was only intended to be a one off when I did the Monaco event, but it was really good fun so I decided to do Madrid. Its going to be a busy weekend for most of us:tup:

Great practice session tonight, thanks to all who came along. I have taken a quick look at the replays, but only looked at the 4 races when Omnius was driving with us. The fastest times are as follows.

COBANI...1:34.975
JAMESYBOGRAT...1:35.212
ADE3210...1:36.387
COBRIUS...1:37.103
GOODWOLF_...1:37.228
PSN-OMNIUSALX...1:38.177

Its looking like COBANI is setting the pace again this week. JAMESYBOGRAT needs to find his big gloves. I will try to look at the other races tomorrow if I get time, but if any of you managed a quicker lap than those I have posted, let me know.

Great pics again Cobani, I like the one of your car taken from underneath Jamesys car. I really enjoyed the practice, and was happy with my set up. The same as Spa, with only a slight tweak to the transmission. The race on Sunday will be great I think.👍

Hi, is there any spaces left as I would like to join if that's ok?

Hi mate, I may be able to fit you in for the Sunday cup series. I have 3 registered drivers who didnt make the first race, or last weeks practice. I have messaged them to see if they are still interested. If they are not I can offer you a place. I will let you know ASAP. The series is limited to 12 drivers to minimise online issues, and as it going well I want to stick to 12.
In the meantime let me know car/wheel colours, racing number and country.
Cheers
Ade
