I saw the movie a few days ago. I think it was a good way to spend a couple hours. Emily Blunt sings one hell of a villain song. The different animation used took a bit to get used to but that passed quickly. The opening scene is set to "We Got The Beat" originally by the Go-Go's. In this case, it's sung by Rachel Platten with a couple lines rewritten to make it pony-specific. Daniel Ingram said he already had music written and recorded for the scene, but WGTB was substituted in at the last minute. But WGTB isn't on the soundtrack. So what was the point of putting it in the movie in the first place?
The point of the movie was to make a story larger and more epic than they could do in the TV show (okay, yes, the real point of the movie was to create new toy lines to sell, but let's put that aside for the moment). The problem is they've already done epic in the TV show with "Twilight's Kingdom." Tirek is an amazing villain. Liev Schreiber's Storm King is good, too, but it's just a little too much like a retread of "Twilight's Kingdom." Otherwise, I enjoyed it. Good guest performances and plenty of time for each of the Mane 6 to shine.
